Vue d'Esprit 4.2 Free Update to Support Poser 5 FREE UPDATE TO IMPROVE COMPATIBILITY June 16, 2003. Beaverton, OR. e-on software, makers of the award winning, cross-platform Vue d'Esprit 4 and Curious Labs, makers of the industry leading human animation product Poser, announce the forthcoming free updates to Vue d'Esprit 4 and Mover 4 for importing native Poser 5 files. "We are delighted to take the next step in integrating with Poser 5. Poser 5 and Vue d'Esprit 4 together allow artists to create and animate complex human and natural scenes in minutes. This is only the beginning of our work with Curious Labs and other partners in the professional 3D industry," said Nicholas Phelps, president of e-on software. With the inclusion of the new technology, Vue d'Esprit 4 will gain single frame import of Poser 5 scenes. Mover 4 will gain full animation support for Poser 5 scenes. Some native technologies such as Poser 5's Hair Room and Cloth simulation will not be supported in this update. "Integration with the best tools in every 3D artist's toolbox is a strategic feature for Poser 5. As the best character animation product on the market, Poser 5 is well matched with the best 3D natural scenery, Vue d'Esprit 4," said Marc Keohane, CEO of Curious Labs, Inc. Vue d'Esprit 4 comes with 2 CDs, bursting with 30 SolidGrowth 2 tree and plants, over 100 atmospheres, 100 different types of clouds, 300 materials, 250 high quality fully textured 3D objects, 50 example scenes and a 340-page manual. Vue 4 by itself costs $199. Mover 4 for Windows and Mac OS X expands on the already powerful animation in Vue d'Esprit 4, allowing for inclusion of fully animated digital characters, enhanced, new motion effects, and network rendering. Mover 4 is available for $99. Versions of Mover 4 prior to Mover 4.2 require Poser 4 for Poser animation import and use of Poser models. Mover 4.2 requires Poser 5. Until the end of June, 2003, e-on software is offering Vue d'Esprit 4 for Mac OS X for $149, $50 off the regular price, to owners of Mac OS X. Guitta I have a question, when we purchased Vue 4, (it was when it first came out), do we have that many trees etc as you spoke of in the original? If not can we get the updates somewhere? Sharen

gebe ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 12:45 PM

Sharen, Vue came with 30 veggies. 10 others can be purchased as a bundle at e-onsoftware. You must have them all. If ever they don't show up in your thumbnails, go in the Vue plants folder, dlete the file "vegetation.prv" and then re-open Vue. They will be there:-) Guitta

Okay, thank you...Sharen

ronstuff ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 1:46 PM

Hi I went to the e-on site and the updates section, but all I could find was the 4.12 update and not the 4.2 - Is this 4.12 version the same as 4.2 or am I doing something wrong?

Sentinal ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 1:51 PM

This is good news, at least I think so. I know the Vue forum may not be the best place to ask, but from a Vue perspective whats the advantage of upgrading from Poser4 to Poser5? I notice that the hair room and cloth simulation is not implemented in this update and those are the things that all the poser bods were shouting about when 5 was released. So as someone who uses Poser in loads of Vue work, is this the time to upgrade?

gaz170170 ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 1:52 PM

Is it just me or is this pretty pointless, unless you dont already have poser 4? You can already import poser 5 single scenes and animations, provided you have poser 4 installed as well. There is nothing I can see that is new, and they even go on to say thatSome native technologies such as Poser 5's Hair Room and Cloth simulation will not be supported in this update`. If they were to support the hair and cloth room simulations of poser 5, then I would get excited.

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 2:09 PM

Versions of Mover 4 prior to Mover 4.2 require Poser 4 for Poser animation import and use of Poser models. Mover 4.2 requires Poser 5. Is there a new Mover version out? And at the risk of being redundant, where is the new update? 8^) Thanks, Marque

gebe ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 2:14 PM

"forthcoming", not "already there".

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 2:50 PM

lol thanks, just getting a lil excited here. Marque

gebe ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 3:01 PM

Wz all are exited :-)

davidrivera ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 3:50 PM

For those who have only Poser 5 this definitely a good thing but for those of us with only Poser 4 its hard to get excited. If the patch allowed you import Cloth and Hair room simulation then it would be worth upgrading to Poser 5. For now it just allows Poser 5 users to do what anyone could do with Poser 4 (or anyone with Poser 5 plus Poser 4).

Becco_UK ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 3:57 PM

For purchacers of Poser 5 who didn't already have Poser 4 the great news is that the expense of buying Poser 4 just to enable 'easy' imports into Vue 4 is saved. Shame other software companies are not so considerate towards their customer base.

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 4:57 PM

LOL!!! I just got Vue TODAY!!! and what's the first thing I see here at R? Yeah, there's gonna be P5 compatability coming any day. Wow, talk about timing...... incredible. (Dances happy dance) :] Fish

Dale B ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 6:33 PM

Yah, this is good. I wouldn't hold my breath for the hair, as that involves a particle system, but -maybe- we can get dynamic cloth in an upgrade or two.....

JetM ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 8:21 PM

Finally I can uninstall P4! Now the impatient waiting begins...

nick1 ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 11:10 PM

I have the Vue and Mover 4.1 bundel. I still have not updated to 4.12. Is this 4.2 version for both Vue and the Mover or just for the Vue? I still do not own any of the Poser 4 or 5, So would that make any difference in my case other than Poser issues? Thanks in advance, Nick

Ms_Outlaw ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 12:23 AM

I can finally have just one version of poser on my puter. Halaluha.

Schlabber ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 5:54 AM

Great news :o) !!! Now - if I only have a bit time to do this and that render with Vue :o( Vue is a great proggy - but I've too much to do with Poser ... Well - let's hope someday - but then maybe with Poser 5 :---)

smallspace ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 2:04 PM

If I'm reading between the lines correctly, it looks like the main thing that Vue 4.2 will add is full support for Poser 5's enhanced material system. I can understand why Vue wouldn't be able to support the dynamic hair, but I'm curious as to why...since mover supports Poser animations with all the morphs involved...it doesn't support dynamic cloth? Oh well, I suppose they'll get that worked out eventually, though I don't expect hair support till Vue 5. -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

Dale B ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 2:37 PM

Like I said in the Poser forum....I'll trade the hair for the dynamic cloth any day.

HellBorn ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 1:35 AM

..when we have the Poser 5 import the only thing I'm relly missing is the possibility to use DarkTree shaders...

Quoll ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 2:36 AM

I have a question or two about the update. First - I assume that this update will still need a Poser application installed in order to import the files? I ask because it would be really cool to be able to delete Poser 4 from my Mac, yet still have import functionality of Poser files on the ocassion I need them, via Poser 4 files created on my PC. Any such luck? Or does the update just add the functionality for installed Poser 5 versions (which I will not be using, FWIW). Second - You mention an OSX version of this updated functionality. Being as there is no Poser 5 for Mac, can the Mac version of Vue import a Poser 5 file created on a PC? Thanks.

casamerica ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 8:09 AM

Mover 4.2 requires Poser 5.<<< If I am reading this correctly, I can assume that eon has decided to abandon further support of Poser 4 in future updates of Vue? Tell me I am wrong. Please, tell me I am wrong. Take care, be well, keep flying. casamerica

Quoll ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 12:05 PM

Ah! If this is true, then many of us should not update our current instals of vue?

gebe ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 12:09 PM

If ever... just keep your Vue 4.12 copy and install 4.2 beside :-)

casamerica ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 5:46 PM

So my assumption is correct? That is too bad. They've hooked their horse to a manure wagon. I could see it if future updates and upgrades were also supportive of Poser 4. But to abandon that in exclusive favor of, at best, what has to be considered a "controversial" Poser 5 is not the best news I could have heard from eon. I also do not believe it to be a wise business decision.

I use Vue in both hobby and professional work so this is doubly disappointing. I guess it is time to look for an alternative to the Poser-Vue combination I have been quite content with. We are currently in the middle of a project where Vue and Poser are being used. I had also just ordered an additional copy of Mover. It appears that this will be my last business transaction with eon. Hell will freeze over before I ever put Poser 5 on any of my home systems and Hell AND Heaven will both freeze before it will ever be seen on any of our business systems again.

Take care, be well, keep flying.

gebe ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 3:02 AM

I don't know if your assumption is correct. I said "if ever...". Truly, for me I cannot see any problem. I'm also doing professional work with Vue. If I need Vue to work with Poser 4, I will keep Vue especially for it on my HD. And if needed, I will copy /Past the entire Vue to another place on my HD, upgrade this copy to Vue 4.2 and use it with Poser 5. So I can do both. Again: where is the problem?? :-)Guitta

casamerica ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 4:03 AM

Again: where is the problem??<<< The problem is the impression I am getting that future bug fixes, updates and upgrades will REQUIRE Poser 5. That impression coming from the fact that the release states that Mover 4.2 REQUIRES Poser 5. THAT is a BIG problem for those of us who will never, ever place Poser 5 on our computers again. And if future bug fixes, updates and upgrades of Vue are going to follow this road then, like I said, I have concluded my last transaction with e-on and will be exploring alternatives to Poser/Vue. I have already been using the Poser 4/Cinema 4d combination to a small extent. Perhaps it is time to begin using it as our main platform. No matter how much I love Vue/Mover, and I do truly love this program, I will not use it if it requires Poser 5 for its Poser imports. Take care, be well, keep flying. casamerica

impish ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 8:15 AM

I hope they meant "will require poser 5 to import poser 5 files but poser 4 will continue to be supported for poser 4 files" and not what it actually says. As a software developer I know that supporting legacy formats is a pain but its something you have to do until they fall out of use or you create a lot of bad feeling. Maybe someone from E-on could clear this up? Cheers Mark

Quoll ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 12:31 PM

I'm sure they mean that you only need Poser 5 if you care to use the import capabillities. A software company would never tie thier product to someone elses like that. (unless they make photoshop plug ins.)

ronstuff ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 1:20 PM

I think that some people might not be aware that Vue and Mover are two separate products. From what I have read, Vue will import static Poser scenes from Poser 4 AND 5 with the update. Mover is just for importing animations, and if you use Poser 4, just stick with the current version (but you can still upgrade Vue). If you use Poser 5, you can install the update for Mover as well. I would guess that you could still keep a separate older installation of Mover which can still transfer Poser 4 animations. But that is just a guess. Otherwise, maybe keep Poser 4 and Vue 4.12 on a separate machine?? Anyway, I am really happy to see the shader support for Poser 5 because I'm really impressed with P5 shader capabilities - that alone was worth the upgrade for me. Slowly but surely, I'm phasing out Poser 4 as I regain my faith in Poser 5 and explore some of its other great features.

casamerica ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 4:30 PM

I'm sure they mean that you only need Poser 5 if you care to use the import capabillities.<<<

I did mean to imply that Mover 4.2 would require Poser 5 to simply work. But if future versions of Mover are only going to support Poser 5 for importing Poser animations then I and I am sure many are finished with it.

I think that some people might not be aware that Vue and Mover are two separate products.<<<

I am aware of that.

Mover is just for importing animations, and if you use Poser 4, just stick with the current version (but you can still upgrade Vue).<<<

I am also aware that Mover is for importing animations. I am questioning why eon would abandon all those who have "issues" with the "controversial" Poser 5 when Poser 4 has been and still is a reliable and stable platform for Mover imports. It does not make sense.

Most of the work I have done with Poser/Vue has been forensic related. While I am sure the current version of Mover will suffice for the near future, I am just saddened that a program, Vue-Mover, I truly, truly love has cutoff those loyal users who refuse to "experiment" any further with a version of Poser that is so far below the quality and stability of Vue-Mover that it is laughable.

I am not questioning anyone's decision to use Poser 5 and am not going to get into a Poser 5 debate. It is just that I had been operating under the assumption, since there IS a great deal of "controversy" with Poser 5, that any future support for Poser 5 in Vue/Mover would be in addition to continuing support for Poser 4 and Poser 4 PP. I was apparently wrong.

Take care, be well, keep flying.

I've looked at the press release at the e-on site, and there is nothing there that implies exclusivity; just that the 4.2 upgrade will allow single frame pz3 import from P5, and Mover4.2 will handle animation sequences from P5. The only differences, since the dynamics aren't included in this, is the shader node compatibility...and I believe that the backbone of that was implemented in the 4.12 upgrade. As P4 is still an available for purchase item, It wouldn't be too bright to void it's use. Maybe we should wait and see just what goodies are in the readme...?

casamerica ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 8:24 PM

I've looked at the press release at the e-on site, and there is nothing there that implies exclusivity;... <<< From the press release posted above: "Mover 4.2 requires Poser 5." Now, like I said, I am hoping against hope that I am assuming incorrectly. However, that seems pretty "exclusive" to me. I have emailed eon on the matter and am awaiting a reply. Take care, be well, keep flying. casamerica

impish ( ) posted Fri, 20 June 2003 at 3:55 AM

While Vue and Mover are separate products for purchase all of the updates so far released have been bundled so keeping Mover at 4.12 and upgrading Vue to 4.2 would mean E-on had changed their method of providing updates. Since mover appears, at least from a user perspective, to be pretty tightly integrated into Vue this would appear to be an unlikely scenario. Like I said before I hope its just an oversight in the press release.

For example the registry is updated, user settings, sometimes files I stored in the Windows system directories, etc, etc.

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 22 June 2003 at 4:16 AM

Trust me abirdonawire, as a Vue specialist, I do it all the time. To help everybody, I have three copies (just made by copy/past) on my computer and two are patched with the languages patch. I also always install an update on a copy and keep my orgiginal Vue beside, until I'm sure there is no problem with the update. Just try it. All depends the software you use. But with Vue (and many but noyt all others) you can do it. :-)Guitta
