Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 6:57 am)
This is good news, at least I think so. I know the Vue forum may not be the best place to ask, but from a Vue perspective whats the advantage of upgrading from Poser4 to Poser5? I notice that the hair room and cloth simulation is not implemented in this update and those are the things that all the poser bods were shouting about when 5 was released. So as someone who uses Poser in loads of Vue work, is this the time to upgrade?
Is it just me or is this pretty pointless, unless you dont already have poser 4? You can already import poser 5 single scenes and animations, provided you have poser 4 installed as well. There is nothing I can see that is new, and they even go on to say that
Some native technologies such as Poser 5's Hair Room and Cloth simulation will not be supported in this update`. If they were to support the hair and cloth room simulations of poser 5, then I would get excited.
For those who have only Poser 5 this definitely a good thing but for those of us with only Poser 4 its hard to get excited. If the patch allowed you import Cloth and Hair room simulation then it would be worth upgrading to Poser 5. For now it just allows Poser 5 users to do what anyone could do with Poser 4 (or anyone with Poser 5 plus Poser 4).
If I'm reading between the lines correctly, it looks like the main thing that Vue 4.2 will add is full support for Poser 5's enhanced material system. I can understand why Vue wouldn't be able to support the dynamic hair, but I'm curious as to why...since mover supports Poser animations with all the morphs involved...it doesn't support dynamic cloth? Oh well, I suppose they'll get that worked out eventually, though I don't expect hair support till Vue 5. -SMT
I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!
I have a question or two about the update. First - I assume that this update will still need a Poser application installed in order to import the files? I ask because it would be really cool to be able to delete Poser 4 from my Mac, yet still have import functionality of Poser files on the ocassion I need them, via Poser 4 files created on my PC. Any such luck? Or does the update just add the functionality for installed Poser 5 versions (which I will not be using, FWIW). Second - You mention an OSX version of this updated functionality. Being as there is no Poser 5 for Mac, can the Mac version of Vue import a Poser 5 file created on a PC? Thanks.
So my assumption is correct? That is too bad. They've hooked their horse to a manure wagon. I could see it if future updates and upgrades were also supportive of Poser 4. But to abandon that in exclusive favor of, at best, what has to be considered a "controversial" Poser 5 is not the best news I could have heard from eon. I also do not believe it to be a wise business decision.
I use Vue in both hobby and professional work so this is doubly disappointing. I guess it is time to look for an alternative to the Poser-Vue combination I have been quite content with. We are currently in the middle of a project where Vue and Poser are being used. I had also just ordered an additional copy of Mover. It appears that this will be my last business transaction with eon. Hell will freeze over before I ever put Poser 5 on any of my home systems and Hell AND Heaven will both freeze before it will ever be seen on any of our business systems again.
Take care, be well, keep flying.

I don't know if your assumption is correct. I said "if ever...". Truly, for me I cannot see any problem. I'm also doing professional work with Vue. If I need Vue to work with Poser 4, I will keep Vue especially for it on my HD. And if needed, I will copy /Past the entire Vue to another place on my HD, upgrade this copy to Vue 4.2 and use it with Poser 5. So I can do both. Again: where is the problem?? :-)Guitta
Again: where is the problem??<<< The problem is the impression I am getting that future bug fixes, updates and upgrades will REQUIRE Poser 5. That impression coming from the fact that the release states that Mover 4.2 REQUIRES Poser 5. THAT is a BIG problem for those of us who will never, ever place Poser 5 on our computers again. And if future bug fixes, updates and upgrades of Vue are going to follow this road then, like I said, I have concluded my last transaction with e-on and will be exploring alternatives to Poser/Vue. I have already been using the Poser 4/Cinema 4d combination to a small extent. Perhaps it is time to begin using it as our main platform. No matter how much I love Vue/Mover, and I do truly love this program, I will not use it if it requires Poser 5 for its Poser imports. Take care, be well, keep flying. casamerica
I hope they meant "will require poser 5 to import poser 5 files but poser 4 will continue to be supported for poser 4 files" and not what it actually says. As a software developer I know that supporting legacy formats is a pain but its something you have to do until they fall out of use or you create a lot of bad feeling. Maybe someone from E-on could clear this up? Cheers Mark

I think that some people might not be aware that Vue and Mover are two separate products. From what I have read, Vue will import static Poser scenes from Poser 4 AND 5 with the update. Mover is just for importing animations, and if you use Poser 4, just stick with the current version (but you can still upgrade Vue). If you use Poser 5, you can install the update for Mover as well. I would guess that you could still keep a separate older installation of Mover which can still transfer Poser 4 animations. But that is just a guess. Otherwise, maybe keep Poser 4 and Vue 4.12 on a separate machine?? Anyway, I am really happy to see the shader support for Poser 5 because I'm really impressed with P5 shader capabilities - that alone was worth the upgrade for me. Slowly but surely, I'm phasing out Poser 4 as I regain my faith in Poser 5 and explore some of its other great features.
I'm sure they mean that you only need Poser 5 if you care to use the import capabillities.<<<
I did mean to imply that Mover 4.2 would require Poser 5 to simply work. But if future versions of Mover are only going to support Poser 5 for importing Poser animations then I and I am sure many are finished with it.
I think that some people might not be aware that Vue and Mover are two separate products.<<<
I am aware of that.
Mover is just for importing animations, and if you use Poser 4, just stick with the current version (but you can still upgrade Vue).<<<
I am also aware that Mover is for importing animations. I am questioning why eon would abandon all those who have "issues" with the "controversial" Poser 5 when Poser 4 has been and still is a reliable and stable platform for Mover imports. It does not make sense.
Most of the work I have done with Poser/Vue has been forensic related. While I am sure the current version of Mover will suffice for the near future, I am just saddened that a program, Vue-Mover, I truly, truly love has cutoff those loyal users who refuse to "experiment" any further with a version of Poser that is so far below the quality and stability of Vue-Mover that it is laughable.
I am not questioning anyone's decision to use Poser 5 and am not going to get into a Poser 5 debate. It is just that I had been operating under the assumption, since there IS a great deal of "controversy" with Poser 5, that any future support for Poser 5 in Vue/Mover would be in addition to continuing support for Poser 4 and Poser 4 PP. I was apparently wrong.
Take care, be well, keep flying.

I've looked at the press release at the e-on site, and there is nothing there that implies exclusivity; just that the 4.2 upgrade will allow single frame pz3 import from P5, and Mover4.2 will handle animation sequences from P5. The only differences, since the dynamics aren't included in this, is the shader node compatibility...and I believe that the backbone of that was implemented in the 4.12 upgrade. As P4 is still an available for purchase item, It wouldn't be too bright to void it's use. Maybe we should wait and see just what goodies are in the readme...?
I've looked at the press release at the e-on site, and there is nothing there that implies exclusivity;... <<< From the press release posted above: "Mover 4.2 requires Poser 5." Now, like I said, I am hoping against hope that I am assuming incorrectly. However, that seems pretty "exclusive" to me. I have emailed eon on the matter and am awaiting a reply. Take care, be well, keep flying. casamerica
While Vue and Mover are separate products for purchase all of the updates so far released have been bundled so keeping Mover at 4.12 and upgrading Vue to 4.2 would mean E-on had changed their method of providing updates. Since mover appears, at least from a user perspective, to be pretty tightly integrated into Vue this would appear to be an unlikely scenario. Like I said before I hope its just an oversight in the press release.

I quote Guitta: "If I need Vue to work with Poser 4, I will keep Vue especially for it on my HD. And if needed, I will copy /Past the entire Vue to another place on my HD, upgrade this copy to Vue 4.2 and use it with Poser 5. So I can do both" Yes, if things were all that simple, but they aren't Guitta. Trust me as a computer professional, there's more happening during an install then placing files in a single directory. For example the registry is updated, user settings, sometimes files I stored in the Windows system directories, etc, etc.
Trust me abirdonawire, as a Vue specialist, I do it all the time. To help everybody, I have three copies (just made by copy/past) on my computer and two are patched with the languages patch. I also always install an update on a copy and keep my orgiginal Vue beside, until I'm sure there is no problem with the update. Just try it. All depends the software you use. But with Vue (and many but noyt all others) you can do it. :-)Guitta
Is there any news yet as to wether the Mover 4 update will require Poser 5? I truly hope not:( I'm a Poser Propack user hanging on for Daz Studio, as while Poser 5 is still so buggy I refuse to upgrade. Alla

I am with you on this, Alla. I truly hope that e-on has not hitched their high-quality product to a dung wagon. Take care, be well, keep flying. casamerica
