I sent you an IM with some tips on working with Apophysis. I hope they are helpful! Tres

Howdy Mike!! I see you've been brought to the fractal side too LOL

I had a couple of requests for the info I sent to Mechanismo, so I will put it here for your convenience. Firstly, you should get the recent update to Apophysis. Here is something I wrote some time ago, and most of it still applies: Here is how to get an Apop flame from Apop to UF3. Before you do anything in Apophysis, open it and choose Options on the Tool Menu, then choose the Flame UPR tab and change the right column "File:" to enr.ucl. Generate the flame and edit it until you are happy with it. On the main window for Apophysis, you will see on the 3rd line icons for a variety of things. The first is an open folder, the second a floppy disk ( open file, save file) and so on. The third item is 2 sheets of paper, one on top of the other (copy) To pick up the file you just created, simply click on that button. Open UF3. You should have a fractal window open. (usually this will be the default fractal, but any one will be fine.) Right click in the fractal window and choose paste from the popup menu. Thats all...your flame will appear! It may take a moment or two, (or way longer, lol) so be patient. Have fun, try to eat and sleep occasionally! :)

LOL and thank you too, tresamie...I don't have anything other than Ultra Fractal right now, but this should help in the future :)

Mike, I've got two posted in Poser as backdrops and two here....'Galactic Traveller' and 'Swamp Gas' have two of my UF fractals...

Vampi ( ) posted Sat, 21 June 2003 at 1:41 PM

I finally was able to give this a shot, but for some reason UF says that it can't find the file....when I save the Ap fractal as a .ucf <?> , UF says that there are errors in the fractal and won't open it :(

tresamie ( ) posted Sat, 21 June 2003 at 3:37 PM

Vampi, Read the explanation in my reply (#4) in this thread and make sure you are doing everything shown. If you still have problems send me an IM and I will see if i can figure out what's happening. Tres

hey, i had that problem when i first tried apophysis, too! (seems awfully strange that it was only, like, 2 weeks ago... and now it has me in it's grasp and i can't shut the darned little program off) anyways, the problem was that it was looking for the enr.ucl file, and i had it as enr3.ucl... that might be backwards.. i just copied whatever one it was that i had, and renamed the copy whatever it was that i DIDN'T have, and worked fine after that... now, if i could just figure out how to make the REST of it work... laughing ...russalynn

tresamie ( ) posted Sun, 22 June 2003 at 12:47 PM

Getting the flame from Apophysis to UF is about the only part I really know how to do. Russalynn, have you gotten the new update? The original Apophysis had the default pointed to enr3.ucl, but the new update has it pointed properly to enr.ucl. There have also been a few bugs fixed, so it's worth getting. I must say, I am really enjoying your Apophyis work! Please remember to eat and sleep occasionally!

I'm kind of confused as to what UF can do with Apophysis' fractals...so far I've only been able to subtly change colors and completely flub up the original fractal L

tresamie ( ) posted Sun, 22 June 2003 at 7:50 PM

Most of the changes in shape should be done right in Apophysis by using the edit feature. Once you get a shape you like, use the copy button and bring it to UF. In UF, you can correct the colors, thicken it (increase the iter.density), layer it with other fractals or flames, put in backgrounds, make frames, turn it upside down, zoom into it, etc. You actually can change the shapes there too, but it's much more difficult. Hope that helps!

Well, it definitely gives me the knowledge that I've got a lot to learn LOL thank you for the info
