Hello, I don't ask for things very often and this time I'm probably just being lazy, but I suck at making organic models. What I need is a model to use as hair on a poser character of Isabella Valentine (from Soul Calibur). I included a picture above. I already made the suit tex and I'm working on the metal parts and the sword (hopefully poseable). I can make the texture for the hair I just need the geometry or a tip on what direction to go in modeling it. (I'm real proficient in 3Ds Max) Anyone got hair like that?

You might be able to make a morph hair using the poser 4 female hair 4 that hair could be morphed like that. I will try it for you since you are make my 2nd favorite fighting game character (Taki being the first). Sean

Kyrin, that is a really lovely image. Others, are there any tutrials on modeling hair? I have Amorphium, RayDream3D and 4D Visions Sculptor (NURBS), and would like to get started on hair when I have a chance but could use help ceven just conceptualizing the issues involved.

I am not much of a modeler at all but it looks fairly simple to do. Mostly can be done with a transmap.

Just to let y'all know, that is not my pic...I got it from the soul calibur web site... It does look like it would be fairly easy with a transmap but the actual geometry is a bit tricky...

Wait a minute...NURBS...hmmmm... What about patches? I think maybe I'll try it with patch modeling. I don't really do patch modeling much but I'll let y'all know... Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing it Kyrin ...Not much of a modeller except for morphs really. Good luck.

HKyrin, what is "patch modeling"? I think I saw the words somewhere in my NURBS program manual. 4D Vission Sculptor has a "drape" to imported mesh feature and NURBS "ribbon" objects and built in spline to mesh export... seems like its got to be the thing for hair, but like I say, I need help just conceptualizing an approach. Side issue, would it be possible to make a square sheet of mesh and fold it into an Aunt Jimima style head scarf? DUMB NOTE: Maybe you could transmap the Poser 2 Black Hair which is in a similar styly to what is shown above.

With patches I think you could actually do that momo. Patches are wierd. They are kinda like nurbs in that they dont fold. But they turn into geometry real easy. All the stuff i've done with them have been real specialised stuff like the grip wraping on this Katana I did once. (I might post that model too just for kicks...) You manipulate the control points of the object, not the actual vertices, which is what I do most of the time with primitives or spline curves. They do actually act like 3d splines. That is the best way to refer to them infact. flat rectangles of bezier splines. Hope that helps. Kyrin.
