THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: In search of help on bryce

Sargon ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 4:56 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 4:48 AM

First let me just say hello to everyone, i am a fairly new user and this is my first time posting in the forum, although i don't believe it will be my last, also i am a newbie and an amature to bryce. i have read the help files and have searched around on the net for more tutorials, i believe the best way to learn is to just jump right in and try. The problem i been having is this, i been trying to make realistic looking sparks, like what you would get from a cutting torch or a grinder, does anyone know of a way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sargon

Welcome to the forum Sargon. Being new to Bryce, you're in for a fun-filled journey! I would agree that, jumping in and trying things out and experimenting with what Bryce can do is a great way to learn. Enjoy yourself. As for making realistic sparks in Bryce, one way would be to use a 2D pic of the type of sparks you're looking for with a transparency map. Or, someone else in the forum may know of a mat out there somewhere that would provide the results you're interested in. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure, but I'm sure someone will know. Best of luck and happy rendering!

Hi Sargon, Can't really offer any help to your question on sparks, but wanted to welcome you to the forum from another newbie :). I'm sure some of the others will offer suggestions that might work. Teri R

Maybe one of the supernova reminant mats and change the colors from purple to white and yellow in dte?

danamo ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 6:02 PM

Welcome Sargon! I think a lot of artists would add the sparks by doing "post-work" in an image editing app. However it might be more fun and an innovative challenge to figure out how to do it within Bryce itself. I'll have to think about this one.

Welcome to the fun house Sargon. If you find a picture of the effect you want you could turn it into a greyscale, open a lattice and put it into the terrain editor then click new, then picture. Find your greyscale image and click it. Using this method you'll have the required shape and can even use the original color image to give the color you want. I did a tut on this a while back but I'll have to search out the link. I'll be back...............8) Catlin

Hiya Sargon am a little late also, but was learning how to use the im's here grins welcome to the kewlest place in town....grins you may also want to try a cone type shape, and edit the size and shape to make the sparks fly, then perhaps use a volume texture on it of some type with some ambiance and reflection color settings....also, a small light indise the cone will help to light up the sparks from the inside to make it look like they come from the source... Welcome fellow newbie I too am totally new to all of this. You could'nt have joined a better community than Renderosity.
The folks here are just awesome. As for learning Bryce, I have found that there are tutorials at lots of sites on different topics so in my case Google gets a damn good workout, but what I do is mainly push, pull and experiment. One thing I will stress is SAVE,SAVE,SAVE,the " revert to last saved " has got me out of the **** many times. You will find that Bryce is like a good relationship, exciting, frustrating and pleasurable.
Enjoy.
Great to meet you,

Cheers
GG.

Does anyone think I should put up my tut in a new thread so everyone can get hold of it? I did this one for a member here a while back, another nubie 8), and it's sat on the web ever since doing nothing. What you think........................? Catlin

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 28 August 2003 at 10:06 AM

catlin_mc ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 7:37 AM

Nicely done Sargon! Only one thing I would suggest and thats to make the red ray a little more transparent. Apart from that it looks really good. Like your spacecraft. 8) Catlin

Sargon ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 4:29 PM

I'll give that a try, and thanks for the compliment. :) Have a great week end, hopefully i'll have some more up in the gallery by Tuesday. Sargon
