Subject: "Let Them Eat Cake" A Previously Deleted Post From Vue Forum

Veritas777 ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 5:43 AM · edited Thu, 12 December 2024 at 3:01 AM

(My previous post was deleted because it used the term: E-On---"Let Them Eat Cake" Apparently it is unlawful in the Vue Forum to use "E-On" as an opening thread title. That's why this message was DELETED from the Vue Forum. I guess people in the Poser Forum better not use "Curious Labs- Let Them Eat Cake" as a title as that would be removed by the admins too as an unlawful offense against Curious labs, rather than simply a TOPIC statement.) "Let Them Eat Cake"- a line that recalls for me the attitude of the French aristocracy who reguarded the peasants and their problems as not worthy of their consideration. Obviously since Bryce has been removed as a major competitor to Vue, the people who make Vue (can't say E-On") seemed to have developed an astonishing degree of ARROGANCE towards their existing user base that has supported them for YEARS. In my own case, I can't get ANY support from them via their website or through email, even though I am a registered user since Version 2. With the new and more expensive Vue Professional announced (with no price and date for release) it seems that people will be expected to shell out more money for a new "pro" version. Many current Vue users have expressed unhappiness about this because other problems, like OpenGL and the long delayed and still in Beta 4.2 release and( P5 related problems) seem to have kept "them" busy and unable to support their existing user base or attend trade shows like Siggraph. (I am not the only having problems with Vue support- go read some of the older Vue threads- if they haven't already been DELETED) (In the future I will save copies of my posts in case they are deleted, so I can edit out offensive words like "E-On", which are reserved only for French software aristocracy.) So my deleted post went like something like this- I have tried to get a reply to my 6-7 emails but obviously they (I better not say "E-On") refer to them as SPAM and delete them as they come in- despite the fact that they have as message titles: CAN'T GET UPDATES, LOGIN, ETC and I AM TRYING TO GET THE 4.12 UPDATE "they" seem to reguard this as SPAM and so despite being a registered Vue user since version 2, and giving them my full name and Vue registration number in my email, this is "SPAM" according to the OFFICIAL E-On post at the Vue Forum. I have tried repeatedly to login at the website but it doesn't work at all- NOTHING HAPPENS. And to re-register and CHANGE my login and password, I must ENTER my login and password! Makes SO MUCH SENSE! And of course tech support emails for over the past two weeks to (dare I say "E-On") are DELETED as SPAM! Amazing!!! I run a business too and have to delete LOTS of SPAM every day, but I DO indentify legitimate emails and reply to them. But I guess if the money is rolling in and you are ready to "move up" to the high-end software marketplace (and your main competitor has disappeared) it is easy to tell the low-end software peasants- "Let Them Eat Cake".

Hmmm....I am a Bryce user and always will be...Just to let you know this is how it all started for Corel/Metacreations and we see where they are now...I think I will wait and see what the PRO edition will be like before I buy now...Ahhh the power of money...Sad is'nt it?

I wasn't impressed with Bryce's "competition" when I first saw it, and am still not. But I have love for all, even if they don't use Bryce. :^) I won't be buying or using Vue anyway, and my copy of Bryce ain't broke, so for the forseeable future I'll just continue to limp along with my obsolete software. :^D

Sounds a bit like my experience with CL a few years back. One of two reasons I did not upgrade to P5, the second being their registration scheme. It is sad that they have treated you this way, about all you can do sometimes is vote with your wallet. Is there a toll free number you can call? Now I see why they discounted VUE so deeply for Bryce owners, I suppose they were trying to broaden their user base in anticipation of the 'PRO' release. :) BabaLouie

It's a sad money oriented world, where big companies take it from you quite happily then ignore you everafter. They will be the first ones against the wall come the revolution! 8P I hope. Catlin

If I wanted a Vue render I'd grab a box of crayons and draw me one. A very wise man once said that. I happen to humbly agree.

Vue is great for the volumetric skies it creates but the landscape meshes just look soft to me no matter how hi-res you make them. I think that is how they buy back some speed - but they trade speed for beauty and I'd rather have beauty. Scott

I ran into the same situation with the folks at World Builder. I was intrigued by the prospect of being able to animate "everything" in a scene, water, wind-blown trees and grasses, etc. I bought the 3.1 Standard edition over a year ago, and though the website and the re-seller said it will run on Win98, it won't. They never answered E-mails either, and when I asked a question about the program in their website forum I was chided by one of the company spokesmen for running an "obsolete OS". I felt so let down and discouraged by their attitude and arrogance that I de-installed the bug-ridden piece of &#;*%!!.

So even though I have two new computers and they both run XP, I am not going to give them a second chance. Anyone want a registered copy of Digital Element's World Builder? Maybe I should sponsor a contest of my own, with WB as the no-prize. The ONLY good thing about buying WB is that they introduced me to Renderosity, which lead me to this forum, and thus to many good friendships.

Well this sucks, I have Vue and Bryce, can't win for losing, I also noticed the arrogant atitude at e-on, I can't reach certain areas any more....and I just went through a catch 22 with our utility company, what has the world come to?....

Veritas, your post was not deleted becasue it used the word "E-On", or "Let them eat cake". After reading your post, I can say it was because of other words. Anyone could see that, and I'm sure you yourself realize this. E-mail to e-on doesn't get through? Then call them toll free; 877-972-7345 Fax them; e-on software 503 643 9877 e-on software europe 33 1 43 55 36 71 mail them; e-on software P.O. Box 1997, Beaverton Oregon 97075-1997 e-on software europe BP 394 75526 PARIS Cedex 11, FRANCE Or mail your complaints to all NINE of the e-mail contacts they provide, that will get you some attention. Hi AgentSmith, I was sent an IM from Gebe saying " Your post was deleted because you used "E-On" in the opening line of the Topic, which implies an Official E-On statement" and that, "You can delete THAT (E-On) and RE-POST your message. She NEVER said anything else about "other words" being the reason. I did not save a copy of the ORIGINAL message, or I WOULD have re-posted it VERBATIM. If you or any other Admins HAVE the ORIGINAL I Dare You to post it and let others decide if it contains "other words" that justify it being deleted. You are IMPLYING that I used swear words or some other type of verbally HARSH words, and I did NOT. This is the MOST UNFAIR action that I have ever seen after years of visiting Renderosity. Reguarding contacting Vue- their Beaverton office does NOT ACCEPT tech support calls or questions- only SOFTWARE ORDERS. I have EMAILED Vue about 7 times over the past two weeks (read my original post above) and they have NEVER replied to me. It is the WORST and MOST ARROGANT software "support" I have ever had from ANY company EVER.

electroglyph ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 5:56 PM

French, Arrogant, Rude? Say it isn't so....

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 7:44 PM

Sure, we have the original post. No, I will not re-post it. It was Gebe's call to delete it, it stays deleted. I myself would have deleted it because of your overall wording. And, no I will not mention what they are, so that you may get your message out without saying it yourself. This action has nothing to with Renderosity. Your anger stems from e-on and their inability to return your e-mails (this is what I understand from your posts). The deletion of your post is not unfair of Renderosity, since it is the Mods job to keep some amount of order in their Forums. You being upset is understandable, yet NO ONE here works at e-on. Your ranting is uneccesary, and to blame Renderosity and/or the Mods here for any of your probems with e-on, is very misplaced. Try using a different e-mail address to contact e-on, try using a different subject header in your e-mails, doesn't Vue have a Rep here at Renderosity? (Lynn?) Focus your energy at the problem, not the people standing around you. Please/Thanks. AgentSmith

Veritas777 ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 8:56 PM

I think I HAVE been focussing my energy on the problem for two weeks now. Had E-On simply answered my email and directed me to where I can get the 4.12 update, NONE of my resulting anger would be happening. I don't blame Renderosity for anything, what amazes me is that YOU and GEBE cannot clearly see that it is E-ON who is causing this problem, and they refuse to address it. If they had just HALF a BRAIN, this would have been resolved A LONG TIME AGO in a very peaceful manner. Why is it that MY MOTIVE in asking for support from a software company that I have supported and recommended to many people for years (I've purchased Vue 2, Vue 3 and Vue 4) is being TOTALLY UNFAIR to me. If you read the posts over at the Vue Forum now, GEBE says "Vue WON'T READ EMAILS people send to them" and that I must DEAL WITH HER PERSONALLY if I want help from E-On, that MUST COME through HER! All this really stinks, Big-Time. I for one am not giving up on this. I'm going to the national news media (where I have good connections), to various U.S. Congressmen and the Attorney General's offices of various states to have this whole E-On operation investigated.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 03 September 2003 at 9:14 PM

Yeah, if that's the situation, then yeah, have someone bigger go yell at e-on `til they listen. ;o) We here in the Bryce forum know all about trying to get in REAL contact with their programs owner...and not getting it. I assume the 4.2 beta update won't work? Or, you don't want to use it? (I myself saved it, but haven't applied it yet) AS

Ah, never mind, I DO see that you have to have 4.12 before 4.2 AS
