Anyone have any clue as to what's going on over there?

Caly ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 6:09 PM

I don't know. I joined a few months ago and so far have been rather disappointed. It always seems that Poserworld has more frequent and pertinent updates.

I got tired of not getting weekly uploads as promised, not to mention the extras that were announced, waiting and waiting to hear from anyone, and, never knowing what the deal was so when my subscription ran out I didn't resub. They had good products when available but don't seem to care much about being timely or talking to their members. There are plenty of other places that care about their subscribers and were happy to take my subscripton.

Their server seems to be down right now. At least I couldn't get it up to come up. But I'm having that problem with many places lately.

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:01 PM

I think they are alienating all of their subscribers. I'm up in 5 days and I've already decided not to renew. I can't remember the last time anyone talked to us there to let us know what's up and I'm done with them. One of my pet peeves is that my subscription time kept going down by two or three days at a shot, I kept track when I realized it was going on and I lost close to 3 weeks just due to that. I will keep a watch, and if they clean up their act I may re-subscribe. Sorry guys but patience only goes so far and I've been patient since around Christmas time. Marque

wgschick ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:26 PM

I hear ya. I am pleased with the quality of product when it's there. Unfortunately, they've not been releasing one a week (per the subscription agreement) and now there's no server. Their customer service just stinks, and the way things were going, I think you could just buy some of their stuff here when you wanted it if you weren't a member. It was kinda cool that they got Xurge on board, but then they released a bunch of stuff that was crap, promised things they didn't deliver, removed features on their site that were helpful to users, and now the site's down (again... if you do a search here, you can see that this is a recurring theme). You can only have a great product and treat your customers like crap for so long... and then if your product turns to crap...

3ddave44 ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:30 PM

I think I'm on the same path. I didn't get a renewal notification and the subscription lapsed (also sooner than I thought it should though I wasn't sure). I wrote them twice - never heard back and then one day last week, I suddenly had one days worth of a subscription. I assumed they reinstated the account for one day so that I would get the email notification (assuming it's an automatic process); but that never happened. So alas, I think it may be the end of the road for me too.

thanks Crypto... but WTF!?!?!?!??! this is par for the course. how the hell would we know to do that?

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:47 PM

Ive been very happy with PoserStyle. got the 90 past releases when I joined and that was worth the initial membership. Last month they released one a week, though a bit late some weeks, and in July they blew the doors off releases. I haven't been a member of PStyle for long maybe 2 months, but I've been happy. I may be one of the few it seems from the other posts, but thought the flip side of the coin should be represented also. Sorry that the rest of your are disapointed.

dialyn ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 8:04 PM

I actually haven't been disappointed...the site just seemed unavailable when I tried to access it. They've had some very nice items on the site and I've not had the problems with my subscription that other people have had.

dallas40m ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 8:12 PM

Well, Ive been a loyal Poserstyle member for a year and have been very happy up untill recently. I am afraid that I can no longer stick up for em tho. I started a thread over there just shy of 2 weeks ago now trying to get some feedback on why the "Shout Box" feature had been removed from the front page. In that time, no one from poserstyle has responded at all in any way to any of the members questions. I think that I too will be letting my membership expire at the end of my current subscription. Someone has posted 2 releases in the period of time that my questions went unanswered so I know that SOMEONE of the staff had access to the site. Patience can only carry you so far when you have dealt with as many probs as they have had over there. I used to highly recomend the site but alas as of now I can no longer do that. Oh well... Vent over.

Warmest Regards,

Dallas

Poserstyle varies their content quite a bit. Some weeks you get excellent clothing, some weeks pose files, others really nice scenes. It's excellent value for the buck. Of course you'll have some things you don't really care about, but then something will come up that's worth the whole subscription price. And the artists on the site do amazing work. Thip's freestuff alone would be worth the price. Flip side, they really need to work on the site, and update it on a regular basis. Their text on the front page is pretty outdated. More previews have been on the way for what seems months. But you don't get the subscription for the pretty site, you get it for the content. And they've been giving some great content. I like the hair and clothing a lot. Rena's textures for stuff are amazing. I just wish some of the creativity and excellent workmanship would show on the site itself. It's like going into a hole-in-the-wall storefront with a broken neon sign and finding real designer clothing inside for 10% of WalMart prices on cheap clothing.

wgschick ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 8:36 PM

well. they made a big deal about getting Xurge on board, and we've seen a couple of good things from him, and then... nothing.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 8:44 PM

I never renewed. The last time they were down for an extended time, they promised everyone their subscription would be extended...mine wasn't plus it seems to have expired before it was supposed to.

Spit ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 10:02 PM

I've renewed. I've known about using the IP address instead of domain name for months. They don't always release on Wednesdays but usually release more than 4 items/month. My mail has always been answered promptly though responses to their responses come back as undeliverable. I'm super pleased with the items they have and love the variety. After the previous problems when they promised to add some time to everyone's subscription it was added to mine automatically. re the site. I go, grab, and leave. So I don't view it as a problem. Though sometimes my cookie doesn't work and I have to log in again. PW, on the other hand, let my subscription lapse WITH NO NOTICE. I had already renewed twice as I remember and love PW. But that annoyed me no end. One day I got in, the next I couldn't. I doubt I'll be able to renew PW for the forseeable future.

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 10:26 PM

pdxjims Rena and Thip aren't there any longer. And the lack of communication is what has made me decide not to renew. I would rather have just one download a week, that is what I signed up for, than a ton of promises that aren't kept. Marque

pdxjims ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 10:39 PM

Rena and Thip left? Bad news. They're the best. ...sigh...

Irish ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 10:56 PM

It's very distressing that such a good site is having all these problems. I hope they can work their way out of it.

In December, when it was down so long, I was promised that time added to my subscription...unfortunately, I went their one day and found I was no longer a member, although I still have 90 days left. I wrote and wrote but never received an answer and gave up.

Surprisingly one day I received a newsletter from them - so obviously I was still on their mailing list as a member although I was technically not one. I replied to the message and lo and behold, it was answered quickly and I was reinstated with a sub for 6 months for my troubles.

It will be very unfortunate if another great site closes so I hope they can pull things together and get back on track.

:)

Carcinogen ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 11:13 PM

They have been posting some awesome Oriental and Martial Arts stuff lately. Their quality is top-notch, they just need to work on letting members know what is going on. They have had their share of communication problems, but I know they are working on it.

BastBlack ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 12:38 AM

I have a membership, think it's a great value, and I have no complants either. Okay maybe two, when dowload files are over 13 megs and I get timed-out with no more downloads, and mats/meshes/files are over 16 characters like HQ and won't work on a Mac, that's a problem. But other than that, I consider it a real steal of a deal to have a Poserstyle membership. I just show up every now and then, and see cool things to download. Sweet! =) bB

elgyfu ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 2:12 AM

I agree, the quality of stuff was good but the communications was appalling. The front page still boasts of the numerous releases in July in August - well they certainly did not dod the 'every other day' bit in July although there was a few good things. And the 6 things until end of Agust actually produced 3. I proberbly won't renew - I just get stressed when they promise great things and never deliver.

bryan ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 2:45 AM

I personaly love poserstyle, and plan to stick with it through think and thin, i know they will come threw for me and the rest.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 3:18 AM

I'll let my subscription elapse. I can't waste precious money on people who can't get their act together. PStyle has been down too long, once too often.

bryan ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 3:44 AM

there not down now you can get to it from the address a few post upward, the v3 martial arts outfit was put up today.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 3:48 AM

Seriously, if you want to run a business you are coming thru as AMATEUR if you can't even get your DOMAIN NAME to work. I let my subscription run out and I do not plan on renewing any time soon. Yes there's a lot of neat things, but far too sporadic and it was rarely updated as much as they claim. I too had problems when I tried to contact them. No reply, or a reply weeks after I asked. That's just NOT the way to run a pay-site, guys!

wgschick ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 8:08 AM

yeah... they DO have the occaisional really cool item. they have great textures and some awesome models, but they agreed to deliver something every wed. this hasn't happened with any consistency in AGES. someone mentioned they did this hige role out of products in July. You know why they had to do that? 'cause they had few releases and a TON of problems prior to that, and had to make it up somehow to us members. Well, now the same crap is happening again, and I just can't see them doing another Jult delivery cycle. in addition, there is NO communication from the admin of the site as to what is going on. there has been SILENCE for about a month now. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

wgschick ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 8:20 AM

also... it's now official. i clocked my subscription last friday and had 151 days left. today i have 142 days left. last i checked, there were seven days in the week. (for those who can't do math, my subscription has been reduced by 9 days). i've posted a note on the technical issues board, but (if you can believe it) received no response.

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 8:26 AM

That's what was happening to me. And if you keep checking you will see it drop again. Emails and then shoutbox complaints didn't get a response from them. If they would take responsibility and answer their customers I would probably stick by them, but this silence is like they are giving up on the site themselves. Marque

barb ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 8:30 AM

I agree with Spit - PS offers a really imaginative and unique array of high quality products - poses, camera angles, clothing, textures, characters - I haven't been disappointed with any. Also - if I email them - I get a response. Often within the half hour of emailing. As for the IP - we were informed when the new site went up - I've renewed.

Dave ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 8:39 AM

You're one of the few that get kind of response. I've emailed before and it's taken days to get a response. Not good CS if you ask me... Dave

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 8:49 AM

I don't hink they've missed more than once, if that, on the weekly release, though it's often later than Wednesday. They haven't followed through with the announced August extras, though Xurge did say he'd had a system crash so maybe some stuff was lost forever (but why not SAY so?). Rena and Thip left at the start of the year - supposedly after the downtime the team wanted a more active, professional approach to site management (HA) and they didn't feel able to sign up for that aspect of the work - but they had an association agreement which meant that their joint Marketplace items up to July were also available from PS: everything else is PS exclusive. Recently Joe Le Gecko's name has gone from the readme files, though no announcement was made, so it looks as if they are down to two people (and Xurge of course produces for RDNA and DAZ too, so more like one-and-a-half).

That is very bizarre. I had done a post directly outlining issues, and it disappeared without a trace. If it turns up in an unrelated thread that could be amusing.

I was just considering buying a subscription to poserstyle, there are some really nice mods there I would like to have. But given all the griping I have seen here at renderosity now, about the site. I think I will just invest that money into DAZ. Thanks for the heads up guys, I really appreciate being able to avoid what obveiously would inevitably be a customer service nightmare.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Wed, 01 October 2003 at 7:51 AM

I waited for several months, and finally took a chance on PoserStyle. They do have some nice models, but I haven't used any of them yet. They're stuck in the idea of "Pose Construction sets," which allow you to create thousands of your own poses. I look at all the complexity involved, and get totally lost. I've never used a Pose Construction set, and never will. Yet they don't create any actual "canned" pose sets. Half of their inventory is useless to me. At least one of their staff members thought enough to send me an email asking how they were doing. I responded with a thoughtful yet supportive email. Months have gone by with no response. I'm sorry, but no company/store should have more than a few days of difficulty, when they first get started. After that, the web site needs to be there, constantly and dependably. The staff needs to be there to do their jobs and provide Customer Service. PoserStyle has now been in existance at least a year, and they're still having way too many problems. I won't renew my PStyle subscription. (Just for the record, I've never seen any value in joining the DAZ Platinum Club. It didn't appear to be a good value in the early days, now they keep changing the terms and offerings to the point where you can't really count on them.)

Caly ( ) posted Wed, 01 October 2003 at 8:18 AM

The Daz Platinum has given consistent quality. I've been a member since the word go, and I have saved a lot of money. I was able to get V3 & M3 for a song, nevermind all of the other cool stuff like the Gargoyle hound and the cute Toon critters. The terms have not really changed- they just have added bonuses, like instead paying for a year straight out, you can now pay monthly. And the new Premiere Item Previews are a great extra.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Wed, 01 October 2003 at 1:03 PM

You used to know what was available in the Platinum Club. If you didn't join today, the items would be available tomorrow, or a month from now. Now they have items which would be available on a temporary basis.. The thing that bothers me the most is that you get absolutely nothing for your membership fee. You get the opportunity to spend more money to save money. I can pay $29.95, and get nothing. Add the $7.95 monthly fee, and still get nothing. You need to buy other stuff. Some of us just don't have that kind of money. DAZ made a big thing about giving away a bunch of freebies awhile back. They were old items that were of little use or interest in my book. Big deal. Now the other Poser "clubs" give you something for your money. Pay the fee, and you get everything they have for the period of your membership.

Caly ( ) posted Wed, 01 October 2003 at 1:44 PM

Those 'temporary' items are the Premiere Previews. They are a bonus! Think of it as a Cosco Club. You pay to join and you save money on what you buy. Discounts & special offers abound. If you don't intend to buy anything then of course don't join.
