Hey gang...just as a quick warning: I've installed OS X.3 on my mac (Dual 1 GHZ G4 with a gig o ram) and discovered that Vue freezes/crashes whenever you try to save your work. Renders seem to make it okay, but whenever you're going to save the actual .vue file, BAM! Time to force quit. Just an FYI.

That's good to know. I was waiting to buy 10.3 to see what happens with others. Has anyone tried RenderCow running under 10.3?

Well as per my other message (Vu4 + Panther = Bryce 5) You cant even install Vue4 on OSX 10.3 as the installer quits immediately. Likely, (as was implied at the Apple WWDC) e-on could have avoided these issues had they developed Vue for Mac using Apple's well documented development guidelines. It does not mean that you won't have problems, but they usually won't be to this major of a scale. I am just about to buy a new mac too, that will come with 10.3, and new macs are usually not able to run OS versions older then what is pre installed. This is just a shame and makes me feel like I wasted my money. Oh well, Back to bryce and Carrara3... -Paul

How long is Panter out now? Not a week now i think. Do you think that E-on will not provide us with an update? I recieve a lot of emails at the moment where companies warn me that their software is not Panter compatible and that i should wait for an update. As using my system to make my living i learned two things. #1 Never change a running system until you have to. #2 Wait with an update till the first wave is over. And all issues are known that could come up. #3 Stay cool :-)) Ok, #2 needs people like you. Who want to find out and test things in a very early state. But then you shouldn't complain, you simply should report the problems to the companies who need to know. By the way, our windows frineds had very similar problems when XP appeared. AND, I never had so many crashes with Vue than i have with Bryce. But it is probably my settings, so i don't complain. I check and correct or stay away. Very simple principle.

This is a real bummer. It appears you can open a Vue file from the Personal folder (but not from outside the main Vue folder), modify the file, and save it with the same name. Anything else brings on the dreaded Spinning Beachball. I hope you folks at e-on are reading this! Hello! Vue 4.2 is basically unusable under OS X 10.3! Hello?

Ok maybe I have just gotten lucky here but I am having no problems at all under Panther. I am using Vue Pro though. Dont know if that makes a difference at all. Anyway, it has been working fine for me, even the updater works. I also tried a test to recreate the open/save problem that texboy stated and it worked fine for me. So I dont know if it's something to do with me using Vue Pro or I just have gotten lucky so far.

I'm betting it's your Vue Pro, but will give Vue 4.2 another try tomorrow. I also fired off a post on the e-on tech support line; so we'll see. Thanx for the info, Randy. best to all, Paul (texboy)

Wabe: Nice suggestions, however since I develop a few shareware apps, I have to test my apps on the latest OS. I can't afford a slew of G4's or G5's to have around with different versions of the OS. I also cannot afford one of Apples rather expensive developer subscriptions. I realize it has only been out for a week, but most professional developers have had builds of this since June. If you check versiontracker over the past few weeks, you will see many updates for Panther glitches or compatibility. How is it these developers can create patches so fast. They can't, they have been creating workarounds since early July. So really there is not too many excuses for a developer to not have a patch soon after the launch of an OS upgrade. Second, most apps run fine under Panther without modification. If a developer coded and developed according to well documented guidelines, most of these issues are Nil. e-on obviously didn't, or their setup app would not immediately crash on launch in Panther (Apple even commented on this at WWDC in June). Their may be glitches but not to this magnitude of complete in-operability. So with this in mind, yes I can complain. I do not depend on Vue to make me money, it is a hobby that I enjoy tinkering around with, but it is a fun app that I will miss if they do not fix it. I can't justify the purchase of Pro, which is compatible with Panther. So will e-on fix Vue? I hope so, but I also have my doubts as they not only need to fix the app they need to figure out some way to provide a new setup application, as you can't fix an app on a cd-rom. Don't take my complaints as more then reports of what to expect and a bit of disappointment. I am not proclaiming the downfall of e-on or anything of the like. Simply trying to make Mac Vue users aware that if they rely on Vue, they may want to check with e-on first. I don't have that luxury, but many others do. Anyway just my 2 cents. I hope to see more news soon, as I really don't want to use Bryce if I have to. :-)

Paul (texboy), let me know if you are still having the same problem when you try it again. I do have Vue4.2 also so I can try it under that. I don't have it installed anymore since I switched to Panther and Vue Pro but I will be happy to install it and see if I can recreate some of these problems in Panther. Maybe Vue Pro plays nicer in Panther I dont know. I hope it's something that e-on will address since not everyone can or will buy the Pro version. They really need to get their act together on a lot of things I feel (ordering process, web site knowledge base, etc). They have a great product but not so great support. Ok, I'm ranting off topic here. Anyway, I am using Panther on a dual 1.42 G4 with 2GB RAM and plenty of hard drive space and both version of Vue. So if anyone wants me to try anything out between the two versions under Panther, let me know and I'll try and get to it to see if it answers some of these question. I dont know if it will help any or not.
