Subject: Morph Manager 2.0 reviews wanted

For those using Morph Manager 2.0 (or the previous version), what's your take on its efficacy? Is this a faster approach to creating morphs for your own geometries-turned-CR2 than using "Load Morph Target" in Poser? Thank ye, Kuroyume

If you mean the Morph Manager I'm thinking of, it's currently at version 4 - and it doesn't take the place of Load Morph Target in Poser. You still have to do that. I feel like I have the wrong end of the stick here. Better not beat about the bush with it. :)

I'm never sure what I need in this area...for a morph novice like me, is this product useful, essential, or optional?

ronstuff ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 2:10 PM

From the looks of the promos, it appears to be a complete morph creation and managing system all built into one. If this is true, and it works directly on the cr2 rather than having to export/import OBJs, AND it appears to work across body parts, then I would think this would be just about the easiest and most powerful morph creation tool there is. Of course a lot depends on the quality of the deformation tools. If they are nothing more than poser magnets, then they will be limited. If they are more like the deformation tools in Amorphium, then they would be extremely powerful. So if anybody knows a bit more about the way the mesh deformations work, I'd really like to know.

Do a search in freestuff for Codetwister, and you can get the 1.1 version. That should give you some idea (or feel) of what it's about. I tried it out a long while back, and found it a bit tedious to use.The 1.1 works with obj's,so I don't know how the new version differs. SWAMP

Mason ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 3:28 PM

My Morph Manager 4.1 will import objs for MTs by drag and dropping them on the body part. It works with the cr2 unless you want to import/export morphs, then it needs to load the obj. I have not heard of this other app.

SWAMP ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 3:59 PM

What's confuseing people is ..... It's not MorphManager..it's Morph Master. The morphable SWAMP

ronstuff ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 4:35 PM

It sure looks to be LOT MORE than what Morph Manager or The Tailor are. According to the promos this program allows you not only to create morphs with various transformation tools, but to pose your figure (as you can in Poser with the dials) while you are creating the morph - at least that is SUGGESTED, but not clarified. That alone would make it unique in the morph creation realm which usually forces you to work on a static figure and often with just one body part at a time which makes it difficult to create morphs which cover several body parts.

Mason, There is a 4.1 available or 4.1 in the works?

Since I had a $10 coupon from Daz, I decided to plop it into my shopping cart and purchased it. Will post a follow up here once I have some spare time to futz around with it. :) Thanks all, Kuroyume

I played with it for about an hour last night.

Maybe I just need to get used to it, or maybe I'm too used to other methods of morph creation. But, let me put it this way: As far as moving vertices goes, it isn't Zbrush or EM3D.

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 5:25 PM

Do you create your morphs using Morph Master, or do you end up actually using DAZ's morphs? This is much cheaper than Zbrush.

pisaacs ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 5:36 PM

Does anyone know if this program will be useful in creating clothing morphs, i.e. making or importing a bit of clothing and adding creases and whatever else to make the material more realistic? Or for that matter importing a rock or a tree and morphing it to express whatever you want?

Migal ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 5:40 PM

Morph Master can create new morphs and use existing morphs.

It's just that I can't use it to create morphs very well, no doubt due to my own shortcomings.

I'd be interested to hear from some users too! To make sure we're all on the same page in regard to what utility we're talking about, here's a link to the one I'm thinking it is.

BastBlack ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 6:41 PM

I am very interested in Morph Master, it looks cool but can it make good morph and is it easy to use? Also, I would like to know if there is a way to import a sketch, path, or scan to use as a guideline for creating your morphs. Please post reviews. Thanks. :D bB

lesbentley ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 7:31 PM

Morph Manager is a utility for transfering morphs between Poser library files. In my opinion it is a must have. Morph Master is for creating morphs. Personally I prefer Anim8tor (free), or ZBrush (not free) for doing this.

who3d ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 8:42 PM

ditto the query on version 4.1 of Morph Manager (4.0 is VERY handy). I can't help but wonder what place Morph Master will have with Daz|Studio??

dlfurman ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 9:20 PM

I did a small morph, tried to take notes and may (cough, ack) share them on my impressions. I got a bit frustrated at first, but then I have not really, really, really read the help file, but I will say this, I like the program. The only "glitch" is if you are used to the BIG 3d apps you MAY stick with those. That being said it does what it says and I like it. More as it happens.

I still have Morph Master 1.1, and find it totally mystifying. Does anyone know if Morph Master 2.0 is actually worth the cost, compared to version 1.1?

Dave-So ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2003 at 10:32 PM

its seems cr2 files are added instead of just obj... From the description, which is a bit limited, it sure sounds pretty decent... reviews please...

I wish they had better descriptions on it, it looks interesting, but just not sure :)

BastBlack ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 1:33 AM

I briefly messed with Morph Master 1.1 running on Mac through Virtual PC, tried to use the Windows Help file tutorial for Morph Master, got frustrated after one night, and gave up. Having said that, I have since purchased Tailor 1.5 and find it very easy to use. So I'm wondering if the Morph Master upgrade is now really easy to use too, and does it make INJECTION-like morph files that will never get one into trouble with copyright? I hope so. bB

aleks ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 2:41 AM

yes, reviews please! :) how does it handle morphs that strech across two or more body parts? can you produce them without breaking the mesh? it looks so, but you never know... ;)

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 5:41 AM

Yes, the Morph Manager Pro 2.0 description was rather wordy, but didn't really answer any of my questions either.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 6:19 AM

OK, I bought it. Made a couple of morphs and it worked fine. Takes a bit of practice like any new app will. I only read a couple of pages in the help file, couldn't wait to try it. So I imagine there will be a few RTFM threads soon. It does everything it says. It's set up to make full body morphs too. You can go back and forth in the list to make minor adjustments at any time. You can move singe verts or bunches. Seems to be an endless amount of possibilities. So, I have never used any of the high end apps. All I can say is it's worth the price and more for me. If some one like me can get it to work in a few minutes of playing, think what others can do. I give it a thumbs-up.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 6:34 AM

Forgot a couple of things. You can have more than 1 cr2 at a time. You can apply pose file to the figure. You can pose your figure in the program, then adjust the clothes with morphs or JP's to get them to fit better. I haven't got that far, except the posing, but it seem to do a better job on the small morphs than Tailor. Only time will tell.

beryld,

Can you get the soft select to actually select soft? A standard soft select means an area of polygons will be selected, but the selection will gradually be reduced in an outward pattern from where the selection was made. Imagine the difference between a soft brush and a hard brush in Photoshop. That's what I'm talking about. The result is that vertices in the softer area are moved less than vertices in the harder area. When I use the soft select in MM2 Pro, it just hard grabs a few polygons around wherever I clicked. It isn't soft, and I can't control exactly what it grabs.

heyas; i just want to butt in and say, you can make morphs on posed poser figures, while posing them -- with magnets! (no, really!) ::now dodges the barrage of rotten fruit and vegetables::

You need to adjust the Fallout,Start, Pinch, Bubble. Try the settings I have here. I used the PTgirl for this as a test. She is flat chested, so I found it easy to see what I was doing for the test.Click on the very center of the nipple and try the setting I have here. Click on translate, click on scale, change the Z-2.000 and see what happens. Should be smooth. You can go back and re-adjust things to make it smother if you need to. Migal- Hope this is what you are asking. You can use a sphere to make other changes, or add more trans. bloodsong- your right, but this creates the morphs through all need parts. I'm just doing this on trial and error.

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 4:38 PM

Does it have a mirror function? If I morph the left bicep, can I get that same morph for the right bicep? Thanks!

Migal ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 6:24 PM

It can mirror selections, Cres.

Thanks, Beryld. I'll try that this weekend. It may very well be what I was talking about. I played with the sphere translator and it felt like Poser Magnets to me. I fled in terror back to trying figure out how to get the soft select to do what I wanted. Do you also know of a way to make a morph with your mouse, as opposed to typing numbers into entryfields?

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 7:15 PM

There is a scroll wheel beside everything, also a plus/minus with it. Thier just small. I also figured out you can do both sides at the same time for some morphs. Use the same settings I posted, Change the Falloff to about 280. Click the one nipple, click on soft again and do the same to the other nipple. In transformers, click on spherfy the selection, it's the very last one. This will do both sides at the same time. Play with the sphere setting. Hope this helps a bit.

Migal ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 7:27 PM

I don't mean the scroll boxes. Hmmm... How can I put it? Like grabbing the model and moving the vertices with your mouse? Thanks for all the info, btw.
