Subject: Can't See Icons for a Pose package

beonalert ( ) posted Tue, 06 January 2004 at 1:40 PM · edited Tue, 03 December 2024 at 4:47 AM

Hi all. Thanks for taking the time to look at this post. Here is my issue: I have just bought a package of poses for Poser 4. I've properly installed them and they show up in my Pose menu.......well...sort of. The poses are there and are listed by name but the actual icon for each pose is the standard Poser "error" image. Now I noticed that in the folder containing each pose, there are .pzr AND .png files for EACH pose. The .png files are the actual icons that should be showing up in the menu. No other pose folders have both .pzr and .png files so I am wondering if the .png files are supposed to reside somewhere else? There are over 400 poses in this package and unless the icons show up, I have no way of knowing which pose I am loading unless I minimize Poser 4 and open up the specific .png file in a graphic viewer. Thanks in advance!

Hi beonalert, If you search through freestuff, you should find a program called Pd30 Explorer. This has a tool which will convert png to rsr, which will solve your problem. Shanna :-)

I should have said, Poser 4 uses rsr files, Poser 5 uses png files to do the same thing. Shanna :-)

Excellent. I found Pd30 explorer but I noticed there were also plugins. Do I need the plug ins as well or will the Explorer take care of the conversion. Thanks! You're a lifesaver!

I didn't get any plug ins and it works just fine for me :-) You just open Pd30 explorer, navigate to the folder all the poses are in which have png, press convert png to rsr (it can do this either way so make sure to select the right one) and it will convert all pngs in that folder to rsrs. You will find this happens from time to time with props and things as well, so keep hold of that little program. It's very useful :-) Sorry, I haven't looked into the plugins. Hopefully someone else will be along to help you out with those soon. Shanna :-)

The plug-ins are useful, and they're free - no reason not to get them. :-)

Well, I tried to download it but it doesn't seem to want to install itself on my Mac. I'm wondering if this is a PC only program?

That would be it.

I received the solution from another board. I will post it here in case anyone else runs into the same problem. Since the poses themselves work, simply load the pose onto a Character and make sure the window is square (400x400 or 800x800) and then save it as a new pose with the same name. This will replace the old pose but it's still the same pose and it will automatically create the icon.

I hesitated to suggest that - it's a lot of work, for one thing - and in some cases, like MAT poses or partial poses which only affect part of the body, saving back into the library can undo the "magic" that's been edited into the pose. People are doing lots of things with pose files that weren't considered when Poser was designed. Glad to hear you found a solution, though.

Or just ask them for the RSRs. I routinely include both RSR and PNG in my free items, so how hard can it be?

beonalert ( ) posted Thu, 08 January 2004 at 2:17 PM

I contacted the vendor and figured out the problem. Something went whacky in my unzip process and I only got the ProPack version of the files. So after downloading a 2nd time and using Stuffit, I found the P4 specific files which did, in fact, contain the rsr files. Sorry to waste everyone's time but I learned a lot, so thank you all!

English bob is right "I routinely include both RSR and PNG in my free items, so how hard can it be?" I also include the rsr and png with my free robot figure. I included the png just in case poser 5 has a problem converting the rsr.

P3DO Explorer has a feature called Convertrsr2png. It will convert png to rsr, and rsr to png. It's a great tool. I don't remember if it's part of the program, or an extra plugin. Get all the plugins, since you'll want them.

Anyone making figures or poses etc free or commercial should include the RSRs with the PNGs in their packages. I know a lot of them dont now and that is a bad thing. If you dont have rsrs because you use poser 5 or p4 propack then use something like P3DO explorer to convert them.
