Subject: Editing terrains

OK, another question....well 2 actually :-) If any of you have seen my gallery you'll know I use Bryce too. Now, if I edit a terrain in Bryce there are controls to smooth the terrain and to raise/lower it within the editor, neither of which I can seem to find in Vue. The smoothing tool is very useful for a number of things. The main advantage of being able to raise/lower in the editor is that if I've rotated say a symlat and want to then reduce the height it distorts diagonally (the same happens in Bryce unless you edit in 'object space' instead of 'world space' but if it's done in the editor then the problem doesn't arise. TIA for any advice

In brush mode, you can use the 'dig' and 'raise' brushes to lower and raise terrain. Also, in the effects drop down brushes, you can use 'diffusive erosion' to smooth bumpy areas. Otherwise, you can always export the terrain to a photo-editor program, make your changes, and then import the new picture into the terrain editor.

I think first of all you simply double click onto the terrain - to open the terrain editor. There you can find all kind of things you want to do with a terrain.

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

Thanks for the replies but they don't really answer my question. I know how to get into the Vue TE but it doesn't have all the options that Bryce has I'll carry on doing it my way then which is create what I want in Bryce TE then import it into Vue.

You are right gillbrooks. There is no way of making a terrain higher other than simply scaling it on the height axis. The result: streched mesh, ugly look. I don't know Bryce, but i dearly hope to see a similar option in Vue someday...

You can sugarcoat it all you want, editing terain in Vue sucks.

I just read a very cool tutorial on increasing the size of the terrain... I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but you might want to take a look at this. -=> Jim! <=-

Well I suppose it would only make sense to anyone who's used Bryce so I'm posting 2 images. This first is a terrain before smoothing. The small image in the corner is the nano preview from the Terrain Editor

This 2nd image is the same terrain after I hit the smoothing button about 6 times

Ah, This kind of smoothing is easily done in Vue. Just press the diffusive erode button repeatedly. I was assuming you were talking about a completely different problem.
