hey the3Dzone, i've been trying to figure out how you did that bump map thing with the Catbumps. How did you do it?

The3dZone ( ) posted Wed, 03 March 2004 at 1:57 PM

i did the transmap "naughty kitty" and insomnia did the seperate transmaps ,but i didn't make any bumpmaps, the cattextures load with no bump applied to it just a texture map.

The3dZone ( ) posted Wed, 03 March 2004 at 2:17 PM

but to answer the question of bumps,i do it this way... turn the image to greyscale, and depending on the pattern you may have to invert it,because the blacks recess and the whites raise up visually. so if you wanted the spots on the suit to stand out they would need to be a shade of white. does that explain it?(i tend to be bad at explaining things like this...lol)

compiler ( ) posted Wed, 03 March 2004 at 5:19 PM

@ 3dZone : LOL ! I remember when I was doing my time in the army, there was a guy who had this kind of attitude, and who also wore pink or related colors quite often. He wasn't the most popular guy with his sargeant...

compiler ( ) posted Wed, 03 March 2004 at 5:22 PM

Ooops, Nanoshi, I'm so sorry about this ! I've added a paragraph to give you due credit. All my apologies again.

Great picture 3dZone! I really had a laff. I am restoring my system right now. The installation of EasyPoseUnderground had caused major system problems which caused me some down time. I am still in the process of rebuilding my new system so be patient with me. I am glad I started this new thread before my system went down. Great things being posted. Great image from Compiler also! Thank you. marty

insomniaworks ( ) posted Thu, 04 March 2004 at 2:24 PM

Okay Testers, how do you feel about the Battle Force Senbotsu package. I have already had one report that a poke thru is occuring in the back of the boot, I am going to check that out in a little bit. Cally was complaining about a problem, that I don' know if its is product related or not. I would like to here from her about this. thank you marty

The3dZone ( ) posted Thu, 04 March 2004 at 4:09 PM

only things i've noticed are pokethrus on the boots and catsuit when useing some of the battleforce poses like the salute pose leaves a big pokethru under the arm and with the kneeling pose theres a pokethru in the calf area of the boot and the heel. the textures look great,i've had no problems with any of the mat poses or textures. i haven't used the gun,so i have no comments on it :0)

Are there any tricks when texturing for making straight lines? what I mean is the UV map on the catsuit is twisted slightly like when you put socks on sometimes, problem is it makes straight lines wavy, now it's hard to plot a wavy line to be straight, so I was wondering if there was any tricks to doing it out there that I don't know about? I seen plenty of people do textures with really crisp staright lines, how do they do it? :/ here's a pic to show you what I get in the wavy line department.

insomniaworks ( ) posted Thu, 04 March 2004 at 6:15 PM

First off all, there is no way I can get these uvmapps to run any straiter. I supose you know that already by examing how strait the lines are on the uvmap. The distortions are caused by the narrowing of the mesh. I havn't have any experience with this mind you, but what I have picked up is , you can do it with 3d painting software such as Deep Paint. It allows you to paint directly on the figure. I have read where some users 3D paint software say they don't care how the map is layed out, they can do exactly what they want with it. I am sure there is a demo out there of Deep Paint.

Nanoshi ( ) posted Thu, 04 March 2004 at 6:20 PM

Yeah Insomnia I wasn't questioning your work, your UVmaps are actually very good compared to some, very neat and well laid out. I was just wondering how people got those straight lines, and thanks for the tip, I didn't know there was a 3D paint thing, I'll have to check that out, sounds like it might be what I need, I was thinking when I was playing with the textures it would be alot easier to paint the figure itself lol.

insomniaworks ( ) posted Thu, 04 March 2004 at 6:34 PM

There is a variety of products it seems, there is also a plug in for PhotoShop that I have heard of.

ynsaen ( ) posted Thu, 04 March 2004 at 6:49 PM

http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12444&Form.ShowMessage=1688891 IW is absolutely correct -- the Only way to create a UVMAp on which patterns like that will lay straight without resorting to 3D painting tools such as Deep Paint (which I use) is to retain the geometry distortion in place. IW did a wonderful job on the UV Map, making it very clean and nice. His work and effort is to be commended. An alternate, and less expensive, tool than Deep Paint is Maxon's BodyPaint, which I have been testing and is quite good. The two packages approach the same task from different perspectives, so they do have differences. Senbotsu is awesome. I love it! I'm also taking requests similar to the one in the link above at this time for transmaps & texture sets that are somewhat less anime in nature (I tend towards the more realistic look, myself, but that's only cause I'm better at it than anime! lol -- but not much...). IW -- did you ever get that one transmap and Pose set I sent?

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

insomniaworks ( ) posted Thu, 04 March 2004 at 7:31 PM

I don't think so ynsaen, I have been a little slow getting to IMs. Everything is going slow right now, I am in the process of making all my software work again. I am very fustrated. Oh, by the way, I am able to unzip files again now, lol. marty

"No Sir! I haven't found your arms yet, Sir!" Just playing around with some recent things, checking it out and such.

Try this... maybe it's just me, but... load in the doll, the clothing, conform it to the doll, then select the Body part of the doll. Make Rotate_Y equal 180. Then try again with the Sailor Suit if you have one.

Yeah, if ya make a mask, people can make Kitty-N! And like I suggested erlier, how about a morphable towel? A towel that can be worn, crumpled, folded, hung, thrown, twirled and then used as a whip, ect, and a bonus for the head......it would be GREAT for shower scenes, beach scenes, locker scenes, ect...!
