Subject: Trying to attach dfx item to poser model and can frames be increased above 999?

Alright, It's me again...( the brain dead one). I'm trying to attach a dfx helmet I've made and trying to get it to permanently attach to Don in poser 5. It's not sticking to him...why? Also is there any way to increase the frame number beyond 999 in poser 5. I want to a wave file thats about 3 minutes long. Thanks, (signed the tormented) Fred

If it is a dxf it wont have any smoothing, you should convert it to 3ds or obj in another program and reimport it if you want smoothing.

Ditto Xantor. Poser really dislikes DXF. Use Crossroads or some other modeling program to convert the DXF to OBJ first. There's no solid limit to frames. In Poser 5, just get to Render Options (Ctrl-Y) and set the frame count in the lower right blank as shown. Trouble is, the animation controller (frame slider) won't go beyond 999, so it's not a good idea anyway. You'll find your work is easier to handle if you divide the animation and the WAV into shorter chunks, say 200-300 frames, and give each its own PZ3 file.

If you can import the DXF file successfully, there's no need to convert it first. You can smooth it within Poser. Use the Grouping Tool to highlight the parts you want smoothed, then click the Weld Group button. Or enable the "Weld identical vertices" option in the import dialogue when loading the file, if you want the entire mesh smoothed at once.

Thank you everyone. I have been moving props from Truespace as DFX because when I save as 3ds in true space, it deforms the geometry often not visible until it's into Poser. While both these programs are powerful in themselves, I see myself (sigh) moving to 3d studio to be able to do everything I want too. Time to trade in the pop bottles for a bigger system ( yak!).

If you're thinking of saving your pennies for a higher end program, consider LightWave instead of 3D Studio. Reasoning is that when importing a Poser OBJ file into Max you have to rescale it by a factor of 100 - and then if you want to re-import the modified OBJ into Poser you have to scale it back down to 1%. Sometimes the scaling does not go back completely to the original. LightWave, on the other hand, imports and works with OBJ files that are the original size. Not only to mention that you get a LOT more bang for the buck with LightWave vs. Max - especially when it comes time to upgrade. 8-)

Cinema is good for converting objects to poser and there is a free version still in some magazines.

I have used truespace 4.2 quite a lot for converting objects and I have not seen any problems with 3ds files.

Which version of trueSpace do you have, pararehabpro? A OBJ import/export plugin is available for versions 3-6.

I'm using truespace 5. I started with version 1 a long time ago and have upgrade time and time again. I will try the patch, thank you.

Little dragon, most times when I have used weld group in poser it makes the object with that horrible all rounded edges look and sometimes you can see the polygons edges. It is usually okay for figures, though.
