It's not a part of the texture map, is it?

"it's strange how the texture on the figure changes with changing the attribute of the figure to positive or neutral." I hadn't actually noticed that, but will stick my neck out and give a tentative theory: If object neutral, then nothing else affects it, so normal texture. If object pos/neg etc, then maybe Bryce expects it to be booleaned(?), and reduces the texture accordingly (in order to decrease computation time or something). Dunno - just guessing.. Cheers, Diolma (I must have had too much beer)..
No, not a part of the texture. I changed from hi-res texture to low and back, and still it's there. Also, no, the lights are not grouped. They do acquire gells after saving (the known Bryce bug), but it doesn't change anything. I'll try mucking about with the Face room again and reimport it. Diolma, no, I don't think it's a reduction. When I changed the mesh to positive, the texture darkened completely, although the diffusion and ambience remained the same. I guess it has something to do with global Ambience and stuff like that. I will check.

If nothing works then you could at least try to discover if it is because of the figure or because of your Bryce settings. Just take a Bryce spehre with it's default white material and put it on the same place as the head is now and see if that produces a shadow. If so then youi know at least that poser has nothing to do with it.

Make sure that you do not have the diffuse dot selected in the value section of the mat lab (the middle section). That would make the diffuse color lighter or darker based on the alpha section of the three little windows of your texture. Of course, if you don't have and alpha and bump loaded, I haven't a clue.
Hmmm. Nukeboy, I don't remember, and as I'm ready to drop into bed (4.30 AM here), I have no strength to check. I remember there was something with alpha, but not exactly what. I'll check. BT, that's an OBJ, which comes smoothed. I did try to re-smooth at something like 120 degrees, but the patch remained. And I smoothed just the head. :-)
