I've imported the figure into Bryce. And then that strange shadow appeared. No amount of fiddling can remove it. there are three radials up towards the ceiling but they are set to No shadow. The spotlights (yellow arrows) are also set to No shadow. Everything in the Sky Lab is set to black. I tried setting Ambient to white, but no change. The only thing that I can think of is that I was changing the face in Face room, but don't want to ruin the textures by reimporting at the moment. OTOH, the jacket was not in the face room, but still has that darker part. BTW, it's strange how the texture on the figure changes with changing the attribute of the figure to positive or neutral.

It's not a part of the texture map, is it?

I hadn't actually noticed that, but will stick my neck out and give a tentative theory: If object neutral, then nothing else affects it, so normal texture. If object pos/neg etc, then maybe Bryce expects it to be booleaned(?), and reduces the texture accordingly (in order to decrease computation time or something). Dunno - just guessing.. Don't know either! but I've had strange things happen if a light source has a procedural gel.It's happened when the light has been grouped with another object,high-light it by mistake and if you don't watch out you've pressed the mat-lab button and...

No, not a part of the texture. I changed from hi-res texture to low and back, and still it's there. Also, no, the lights are not grouped. They do acquire gells after saving (the known Bryce bug), but it doesn't change anything. I'll try mucking about with the Face room again and reimport it. Diolma, no, I don't think it's a reduction. When I changed the mesh to positive, the texture darkened completely, although the diffusion and ambience remained the same. I guess it has something to do with global Ambience and stuff like that. I will check.

Aye, I'm with AS on that one. Another way to test things would be to turn off self-shadows for the face. If it goes away, you know it's a shadow and not some null object or something...

yes turn off sun and make sure your shadows aren't on for your clouds and sky.

I'm going with AS on killing the sun. That or a decent nights sleep. As I understand it, meshes are made up of 2d faces (hollow), when you turn a mesh off neutral Bryce figures it as solid. Could wraping a parametric texture around a 3d solid be different than wraping it around a group of 2d faces?

If nothing works then you could at least try to discover if it is because of the figure or because of your Bryce settings. Just take a Bryce spehre with it's default white material and put it on the same place as the head is now and see if that produces a shadow. If so then youi know at least that poser has nothing to do with it.

Well, whaddaya know... I turned Self-shadows off, the shadow got smaller. Turned Receive Shadows off and it practically disappeared. There's still a small, redder trace of it, as you can see, but it's almost unnoticeable. Thanks, shadow. :-) I *had* turned off the sun, *had* turned the clouds off... OTOH, I'd like him to look more Oriental, more specifically something like a cross between a Chinese and a Vietnamese. What do you suggest to change to achieve that look? A wider nose? A smaller mouth? A narrower chin? Also, a suggestion for the skin hue? I think that I have to get rid of the beard ... shadow, too. :-) Also, I opened the mesh in Rhino and noticed there's a small darkening on the place of the shadow, like the mesh is distorted there. So, further adjustment in Poser might resolve the problem. Or create a bigger one.

Make sure that you do not have the diffuse dot selected in the value section of the mat lab (the middle section). That would make the diffuse color lighter or darker based on the alpha section of the three little windows of your texture. Of course, if you don't have and alpha and bump loaded, I haven't a clue.

did you smooth the imported object? looks to me like its a bryce artifact from imported objects.... Select the whole human group click the e drag the slider upwards and click smooth go get a pizza and beer in alaska while Bryce smoothes the object click the checkmark to apply. luck BT

Hmmm. Nukeboy, I don't remember, and as I'm ready to drop into bed (4.30 AM here), I have no strength to check. I remember there was something with alpha, but not exactly what. I'll check. BT, that's an OBJ, which comes smoothed. I did try to re-smooth at something like 120 degrees, but the patch remained. And I smoothed just the head. :-)
