Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 15 9:11 am)
Many people have not upgraded to Poser 5, and of those that have, some may not have enough horsepower to be able to use dynamic clothing effectively. Even the monster PC owners will prefer conforming clothing for scenes with a lot of characters in, I think. So you're limiting your market by making dyanmic-only clothes. That's why there aren't lots of them in the market place. :)
I've never even looked at any dynamic clothes at all. (P5 here.) Is there some freebie ones out there anyway to tinker with? How bad typically is the render time anyway? I'm all in favor of anything released that utilized the power of P5, if it looks better or is as easy to use.

Check out PhilC's site for some great freebies. Render time needn't be any more than conforming clothing, although tehre a couple of "gotya's". 1. You have to calculate the way clothing "drapes" over your figures - that's a new extra step. 2. Hiding body parts is a no-no - if you make a body part invisible to save on rendering time (like a lot of us do when it'll be hidden by clothing) then the cloth will drape right through the hole you've just made in the body. Ooops! Cheers, Cliff NB thing sMAY have changed...it's been a while sinc eI tried to drape cloth over a bit of body that wasn't there.Cool. Phil also has a tutorial there how to use it as well. I'll look at that when I have some free time. The only reason I've hidden body parts so far, has been to eliminate popthrough, so that shouldn't be an issue. Why the poser community doesn't embrace the new tech, and push it to it's limits is beyond me.

No worries guys. One reason it hasn't taken off as well as perhaps it deserves is a certain amount of inertia coupled with "Oh No! Poser 5!" (the latter a sadly reasonable reaction to some of the problems some early adopters had). The Intertia aspect - a lot of people are already comfortable with Poser 4 or Poser Pro Pack - if they can do all they want to there then there's little reason to change (indeed I'd discourage it - there's no point changing unless one can gain a benefit). Poser 5's advanced features are more likely to confuse a Poser 4/PP addict IMHO than a newbie because a newbie doesn't have to unlearn anything. I find it easiet when there's any question to pick a name like "Nerd","Little Dragon" or "PhilC" because I've a fair chance of being right to point someone in that kind of direction and it makes it look like I know something :) Cheers, Cliff

PoserFashion.net has some free dynamic dresses, as well as some great Cloth Room tutorials. Thanks, Randy! And Who... it's like Photoshop, IMHO. Yeah you COULD use Photoshop 3 if you wanted, but then you loose all the new toys! I 've been upgrading I think since then, and always plan to. Same with Lightwave as well. I'll probably be one of the first to move to Poser 6 when it comes out as well, providing it has new features that are worthwhile. As far as graphic utilities go, Poser is pretty dang cheap. Heck, I think it's cheaper now then even just Mimic Pro for Lightwave is!

BTW - I've found that the best way (for me) to work w dynamic clothing is to set up the scene props 1st and save it. Then introduce a single figure and do the dynamic clothing bit for that figure til I'm happy with the result. Then save the whole kit'n'kaboodle out as a wavefront obj. Start new scene, import the wavefront obj, add 2nd figure and continue from there.. (with variations - sometime I only export the character + the clothing, reload the original scene, add the character+clothing, add 2nd character etc..) Cheers, Diolma
Yeah I read a few walthrough on things like making catsuits n such with dynamic clothes, and it does sound like a more realistic way to go for clothing. It takes more computing time of course, but let's face it.. our computers double in speed every 4 years or so, so learning it now isn't bad at all...

No slower than the render time for conforming clothing. But the Cloth Room setup process, where you run the cloth-sim calculations prior to rendering, adds some time to any project.
i want to watch animations made using poser(and other soft as well) so if you know any good site with lots of good or bad animations, tell me please...
Good animations:
www.belino.net, the home of Philippe Bouyer (Phoul)
www.changestorm.com
Bad animations:
Disco (MPEG format, 3.2MB)
Hula (MPEG format, 869KB)
Mimic Wolf (MPEG format, 556KB)
Cloaking: Low-Res Edition (MPEG format, 5.9MB)
BulletTime (MPEG format, 873KB)
Music Box Dancer (MPEG format, 5.24MB)
2. Hiding body parts is a no-no - if you make a body part invisible to save on rendering time (like a lot of us do when it'll be hidden by clothing) then the cloth will drape right through the hole you've just made in the body. Ooops! Leave the body parts visible in the Cloth Room during the cloth-sim calculations. You can make the body parts invisible after the calculations are finished, when you're ready to render.
Even if the majority of the poser community thinks poser stopped at Poser Pro, I've a love for P5... ;) Gareee, I was one of those people untill about 2 month ago :o) But I'll agree with you now. P5 ROX! I think in the last 2 months I've opened PPP twice or so, that's all. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the Power Pixie contained P5 nodes, it was a BREEZE to work with, material wise! And I love the way you grouped the morphs!

Yhanks MUCH, Ern! Daz REALLY wanted to dumb things down for P4, and I protested quite a bit about that. They actually decided NOT to buy him outright originally because of that, but after he was available for a while, and they saw no issues with him at all, they changed thier mind. I was especially proud of how well the wings now look, after just fiddleing with the material settings a little. I also tried to logically make the folders in the body parts to make creating the new character looks easier. (With that many morphs, I think you NEED that kind of organization.) It really sped up his developement time too, once it was organized for MY use as well! LOL!! Now that I've learned a little more, I wish I knew how to Geometry swap.. I would have replaced his original eyes with newly modeled ones brokn into different parts, like Neftoon Gal has. Neftis really does a great job at eyes and hair. I had created more material zones, but never really looked into the value of them until recently. I should have just broken more material zones out on the body, for quoock texture mapped clothes. I know some people said they were going to model some clothes for him/her once the Pixie was released, but I haven't seen anything come out at all yet. I still have some plans for him, I've still got the original alternate texure done, and some props.. I'm guessing with current projects in the works, that I'll get something else out for him in about 6 weeks.

Gareee, there's a small "howto" on geometry swapping in this thread *points to link*, I must admit I never got to try it out much as I got sidetracked at the moment and forgot about it untill now. But perhaps you can use it. Btw I think Koshini uses it too, on her eyes...FREEBIES! | My Gallery | My Store | My FB | Tumblr |

wow... this forum fills up fast.... for who3d, i also have had lots of success with cloth hair, but am also working on using the cloth simulator to simulate soft skin. it can be done!!! i think, from the general opinions, that id be better off trying to earn some pocket money by selling some of my vehicles and buildings, although the buildings are all japanese textured. after retexturing maybe..... soon, i might release some free dynamic clothes, and the world will see that my dynamic clothes are better than the standard meshes, and then people will bow to me and i shall rule this planets people with an iron fist...... perhaps ive said too much. dynamic clothing rocks!!! and poser 5 is great. it compares with maya if you are a genius and can figure stuff out....... having people like all of you around makes it all warm and cozy feeling to learn in too....... thanks people.

i am modelling dynamic clothes to sell and/or give away, and im wondering how many people use dynamic clothing. i have a monster PC so i use it all the time. ive considered making the clothes conforming, but its alot of work, and frankly, dynamic clothing beats the p#ss out of conforming, even with the calculation time. the other thing is, i want to watch animations made using poser(and other soft as well) so if you know any good site with lots of good or bad animations, tell me please... yoroshiku!!!!
