Subject: New David - can we adapt?

OK, I am not trying to lose Daz money but I am concerned at the cost of buying yet another Mill figure and all its required paraphenalia - expecially when it is really a morph of figures I already own. I got Steph Petite (coz she was free!) and am very pleased with her. I have gone on to buy quite a few clothes etc for her so Daz have benefitted in the long run by giving her to me. I was pleased that she shares Vicky 3's textures - David does so for Mike 3, yes? But Steph P could take Vicky 3's head morphs too. Can David take Mike 3's? I am reluctant to buy a morph pack I don't really need. Steven is a big expense if one gets either the bundle or a few of the odd bits - if I could just buy the base for now and still ustilise it with existing textures/morphs then I will - I will proberbly buy the texture and that sexy hair later anyway (they look great). I am sure PoserWorld will be offering some clothes for him soon (pretty please). Any help much appreciated.

ummm from what i gathered - david can use textures for mike 3. but for morphs - i am not sure.

He takes M3's textures well. Most of the M3 morphs I have he isn't taking but I am finding that he will take a lot of teh V3 facial morphs

What I understood from the reading in those DAZ Forum threads is that David will have M3 mapping but V3/Steph3 grouping and totally different joint parameters. So he should be able to use M3 textures and some of V3/S3 morphs (maybe all, but who needs breast morphs on a male figure? Head morphs would be useful though). The fact is morphs designed for a female model could have unpredictable results, so we would still need a David morph pak, but the option to be able to use those other morphs would be nice and would add versatilty. The project evolved from morph pack for Steph3 to stand alone character, so maybe they changed other things and we'll have to wait and see to be sure.

kayjay97 ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 5:33 AM

He will take some of the V3 body morphs and the breast morphs do not appear. At least not in the ones I have been trying. He does take S3 morphs too. Especially the head. The thing I like is that even though they are feminine morphs he takes on a more masculine look. I have noticed though the eyes, when using the V3 and S3 morphs, do not stay put. I tried locking them but it didn't help.

Dammit, it looks like once again, they've tweaked the mapping. JUST LEAVE IT ALONE ALREADY! What am I talking about? Look at his belly button. And the lower line of the lip, although that might be morphs. Which V3 head morphs will he take, and are the channels already there or do you have to copy them over from V3 first?

kayjay97 ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 5:47 AM

It could be the morphs. I am just playing around. He will take almost all the V3 and S3 face morphs I am trying. A lot of from RDNA. I am not copuing them over just using teh INJ files. Kinda if it takes cool, if not oh well. LOL If you are talking about the textures I have shown they are V3 textures. That's why they are off

There are no pop ups :( Why doon't they show the morphs like they did with the 2nd generation of millennium figures?

kayjay97 ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 5:56 AM

They probably will. They may not be done tweaking the pages. I myself think he an awesome guy. Now to wit and see everything that will be made for him :)

They'll probably add pop-ups today.

With textures, it's my personal nit. The ad says "100% V3 Backwards Compatible UVs, Allows Texture Maps to be Completely interchangeable between M3 and David." You can't do both. It's either 100% backwards compatible with V3 (which apparently it isn't), or completely interchangable with Mike 3. Mike's belly button and nipples are in different places than V3, and the lip profile is different. (What annoys me even more is that the mapping is not identical between Mike and the Freak. I can forgive differences between male and female, although they could have been minimized, but between two male characters?) You can have complete compatibility with one or the other, but not both. (I suspect, if the V3 nipples are lining up and the belly button isn't, that he's completely compatible with neither. It would fit with precedent.)

kayjay97 ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 6:04 AM

This is all I saw before I bought him "Texture maps are completely backwards compatible with Michael 3, " This is all I saw about V3 "He uses new Pose Technology introduced with Victoria 3,"

I think this character will be the same as all the rest that have come down the pike...you either like him or you don't, you either buy him or you don't. There will be a lot of conversation about how he is too big, too small, too much like V3, too much like M3, not enough like M3, not buff enough, not skinny enough, not enough clothes, too many clothes, are we abandoning Mike2 or Mike3 for him, but in the end he will find his own place. I like him. I intend to use him as one of the characters in my story. Marque

It's the new Wedgecut 2.0. I wish however that he could be scaled up in height and not go bonkers when posed. I've been able to get some of his body morphs to translate over to M3, but only with a lot of cajoling. Dave

Dave: If you want him the height of M3 just scale the Body to 110%.

Dave ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 12:12 PM

MallenLane: Tried that, but I guess because I got the beta version maybe that's why when posed the figure went wonky on me. Dave (Daz3D Brokered Artist)

pdxjims ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 12:26 PM

Ok all, Daz has done it right. Every problem I had with M3 and the V3 male have been addressed in David. He's got more options and better morphs than anything I've seen out of Daz yet. Muscles are nice, better than M3. He's got a definition morph! No more added bulk when you want muscle cut. He bulks up better, and looks more natural thinner than M3. With a little work (advanced hackers only, you have to edit the injection poses), and V3, SP, or She-Freak morph can be used with him. Resizing him to 110% makes him M3 sized. He's almost identical in height to Seth, the Aeon teen. He's enough of a variation from M3 and the V3 male that he doesn't look like a clone. My only complaint is that he's a non-zero conformer, and I'm still working on conforming the clothing I made to him. Not really David's fault, I'm just not experienced with working with non-zero conformers. MallenLane, thank you. P.S. Quick side note: If you take any figure that is grouped like David (V3, SP, or the She-Freak) and export the body parts as morph targets, they apply just fine to David. Using them in combination and offsets gives some really neat effect. I applied both V3 and the She-Freak as morph targets to David, set the V3 morphs to -.5 and the She-Freak at .5, and get a neat, freakish morph. The same can be done with the V3 male morphs.

That does not look like Mike 2.0, YOu will have to do more to convince me.

MallenLane ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 12:41 PM

pdxjims: not sure what you mean "non-zero conformer" if you mean he's memorized in a default pose? That doesn't make any difference with clothing conforming.

List of problems: of Mike 3.0 fix his chest fix shoulders and delts Fix the morphs that interfear with other morphs Give the mike 2.0 head, Head morphs Mike 3.0 needs work, even with freak morphs he needs work...

Bruce_: He's not supposed to look like M2. I'm just glad that he has a better looking out-of-the-box face than M3 does or M2 for that matter. Dave

Replicant ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 12:54 PM

Just out of interest how many new folders does this one create in the Pose directory? I use P4 and already have 4 Mill figures and a horse in there. That leaves precious little room for anything else so I ask purely for info purposes. I already KNOW that I can't shoehorn in yet another figure that creates 20 or more Inj/Rem Morph folders.

Another problem witrh mike 3.0 is he does not put on weight well like Mike 2.0. Also Mike 2.0 does not have morph problems where one morph messes up another morph.

Bruce_ ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 1:01 PM

So how can he be an upgrade to the original if he's not supposed to look like the original? See you answered my question, So when can we expect to see an upgrade that looks like the original Mike?

bijouchat ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 1:29 PM

David isn't supposed to be an upgrade to M2. David is a different character - a petite male with good muscularity options. He's a great character and fills the bill perfectly for a figure fitting the 17-24 year old age group. The Milboys never hit that agegroup and I'm glad that David has. I use M2 often, when I need a rather scruffy muscleman. And I really do like David, for different reasons. M2 does a great hairy manboob guy but I don't always want a hairy manboob muscleman - that is not reality of what most men look like. M2 looks weedy however if you try to make him lean. And M2 really lacks a lot in his back and doesn't have the lower abs and hips that David has. If you look at a Greek statue, you will see what I mean. I'm here looking it up in my anatomy book - its called the flank pad and the Iliac furrow... moves down into the groin. Take a look at a Greek statue and you'll see what I mean about the flap of muscle there - it is distinctive all the way up to Michaelangelo's David. That's not on M2 - in fact he lacks mesh density in that area, and its a place where I'm going to subdivide and cut a bit more with my Stephanie. David has that Greco-Roman elegance of musculature combined with perfect proportionality which will make him a lot more useful to me than M2. I can make him a wider variety of characters than I can M2. M2 is a great mesh but it needs work to do some of the things that David does effortlessly. As does the Unimesh to do some different things. Neither is perfect - they do different things well. It just depends on what you are trying to do. I have my own opinions on the subject, I have always thought Stephanie 1 was superior to Vicky 1/2, and I've been cutting on Stephanie lately to make her more to my liking. Nobody is stopping anyone from doing the same to M2.

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 1:44 PM

Bruce this thread has nothing to do with M2. He is his own character, not meant to replace anyone not M1, M2, M3, V1 V2 V3 Steph or Steph petite. Marque

bijouchat ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2004 at 2:16 PM

exactly Marque. David is his own guy. And all the other characters are their own as well. I own them all, use them all, depends on what and where.

David has some great new full body morphs. The ones that I like best are Definition (adds muscle cut without adding bulk), and SuperHero, Bulk, and Barbarian - that all add nice muscular bulk in ways that aren't easy with M3. Here's a pic of David with man-tits and more bulk. You can get him a LOT more bulky, but this is as far as I like it. Full body settings I used... Tone: 1 Definition: 1 Superhero: .2 Barbarian: 1 Bulk: .2 Texture is the great Theo texture by FrankFunk converted to M3. Barbarian clothing for M3 with a little work for David fitting.
