DAZ/Studio is the weak link. Importing a .pz3 that contains conforming figures (clothes, hair) will get screwed up. Also, all morphs are reset once the .pz3 is imported (so your enormously busted NVIATWAS will revert back to the normally naked vicky). So, if you successfully import your .pz3, and D|S doesn't screw it up, and you make sure that materials, etc. are to your liking, and it doesn't crash when you export it, the end product works fairly well in Bryce. If you are not a Platinum Club member ($1.99) I would definitely wait until D|S is more stable and better documented.
Got the new Daz Bryce Poser Import plug in and tested it against Grouper. Results....save your money and go with Grouper (and its free). The Daz plug-in does not place the textures on the poser models correctly and caused numerous crashes with my Bryce. Maybe it works better in Daz Studio than it does in Poser. For my money,,,,Grouper is the best for now.
I'll have to check out this plugin, next week probably. Lol, drac. AS

The exporter does a good job, the main problem with it is the bump maps come in as a separate texture and the map is not placed in the middle window, so there is no bump until you copy and paste the bump maps to the middle window. With D/S, some of the changes made to secondary figures & props ( cloths and such ) are not recognized by D/S and revert back to their default position when the PZ3 is opened in D/S. Another con is, when the obj is exported out of D/S, it generates new texture maps. So if you have a figure set up with high rez ( 4000X4000 ) tex, trans, bump. for the figure and cloths, props and so on. They can quickly start taking up space on the hard drive. Example I have a folder I created to save the PZ3, OBJ, and texture, for these figures to be used in Bryce. So far I have 4 figure ( most fairly simple ) and the folder reports as being 133 MB, So you can see where saving the duplicated texture maps can soon add up to lots of space on the old hard drive.
Lol @ Drac... I knew you wouldn't like the plugin much. heh heh heh.... 8) I have tried it out.... I prefer the old school way of importing Poser characters myself though.

WOW, these are hardly glowing reviews. Sounds like one set of problems exchanged for another. Doesn't quite live up to the name "turbo", more like turbulent. I haven't had any problems importing posette into Bryce, and I've even mastered poser2bryce transmapping. I hit a brick wall with Vicky, having to apply a separate texture to the head and also dealing with that material zone around her eyes that renders opaque white. Anyone care to enlighten me? :)
The plugin is beta, what more can be said. It's just not finished. Seperate texture to her head? Around her eyes - on her facial skin, or do you mean the outer part of the Vicky eye socket that needs a glass mat? (basically) Which version of Vicky? AS

AS, when I import Vicky into Bryce the head texture isn't applied. Also, the material zone around her eyes that is supposed to give the eyes highlights/make them look "wet" is opaque white. I'm sure theres solutions for these problems because I see vicky used quite well in some bryce pics, but it doesn't seem to be common knowledge.

That's probably a basic limitation of how Bryce reads MTL. Ultimately, it's probably better in the long run just to do the texturing in Bryce. For example, for Zarabanda, I keep a Vicky eyeball texture in my materials library, and every time I import a figure, just click on the eyeballs and apply the gloss material. If I have more than one figure in the same scene it's even easier, just copy the material from one to the other. Ardiva, I think this is right link.If you don't want to go through D|S, I have written an OBJ Exporter that can create files with proper transparency directly from Poser. It still requires Turbo Importer, though.

It has good reviews...just curious if it picks up EVERYTHING...trans/bumps etc without being so laborious as the all the rest.Message edited on: 07/01/2004 08:47
The transmap folder is temporary - according to the instructions I've had you can delete it (and the OBJ) after importing to Bryce. DAZ|Studio has limits set to on, unlike Poser. This applies to both morphs and joint settings so if you've ramped BreastSize8 up to 5.000, or bent the limbs too far (which isn't far at all for some) they will reset - check what happens if you enable Figure>Use limits in Poser before exporting (after saving - it won't undo). You can release the limits on individual dials in D|S by double-clicking the dial name, so for joints and body part morphs you could save a pose and reapply it in D|S; Full Body Morphs are another matter. Make sure you have QuickTime installed so that Bryce can read the PNGs used for the transmaps.
Zarabanda, that's the problem everyone has when importing Vicky into Bryce, it varies slightly with each version of Vicky, but they all need their textures tweaked. I don't knw which version you are using, but usually the white opaque part of the eye needs to have a glass material applied to it, or you could make it completely transparent, or even delete it. Go over this tutorial on it; http://www.petersharpe.com/Tutorial29.htm AgentSmith

AgentSmith, TY for the excellent link. You inspired me to dust off my copy of Bryce 4 and do some poser imports. I was able to successfully import Vicky and resolve the texture issues. What I need a refresher on is converting poser trans maps for Bryce. I had a number of excellent tutorials bookmarked on the subject but alas, as poser2bryce has gone out of style, those links are all dead. The Peter Sharpe tutorial mentioned trans maps but was missing some of the key steps.

Zarabanda, I have tutorials on this subject at the link above. Note: This site used to have some adult material on it but I've cleared it all away, so I believe I can post this link without infringing the Renderosity TOS. There are a few discreet links to adult sites which I am obliged to keep, but no nasty popups or anything like that. This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Having used both Bryce and Poser for over three years, and never quite getting the hang of importing poser content into Bryce, I was really excited about the news regarding DAZ Bryce and its poser import capabilities. Has anyone used it, Im interested to hear about any experiences with it.
