Subject: ***WIP M3 character still driving me NUTZ***

I'm still haggling with this character. I think I've finally narrowed it down to 2 things that I cant get just right. Looks like I'm gonna have to go research and see if there are any morphs available to fix the problem areas. I didnt want to mention the problem areas cause then everybody would get fixated. If you think you which ones it might be, holler it out.

The eyes, for one. Notice how on the photo, the outer corners are slanted down, and the inner corners are rounder? The nose is a bit thinner, too, and put in the cheek bone. It looks very close, already!

The jaw...its slightly squarer in the original...and the eyes as allready mentioned... I think tweeaking these 2 areas will bring it to a match

Nostrils need to be bigger with the nose skin thinned out.

Well what I was going for was the eyes and the nose. After posting I realized that the eyes are too high. The upper inset of the eyelids needs to be up, but I'm clueless as to what morph to use (maybe there's one out there besides what Daz as available?). And as far as the nose goes, I think the person in the photo mustve had a broken nose at one point. To me it looks like goes off to the viewer's left just a little. Yet again another morph to correct. dave

You're getting really close. The outer corners of the eyes need to come downward. Also the outer edges of the nose - I mean the outside of the nostrils - they need to come downward as well. You might want to check out the M3 head scuplture pack at Daz - I bought the V3 head pack this weekend gone and it has all morphs in it to take care of all those areas.

Already have that and wasnt too satisfied with it. Too me the morphs in the package makes the eyelids look chunky if you use any of the upper eyelid ones together. Maybe that's just me. Thanks, dave

Yeah, the eyelid morphs aren't too useful but the nose and lips are fantastic, I found.

In addition to the other comments, the eyebrows in the original photo have a more arched shape and are higher above the eyes than your clone

I would start by blurring the irises and blending them to the eyewhites. The rest is close. Skin mods will take this a lot closer real fast.

The top edges of the eyes are still rounder and the bottom edges of the eyes are still straighter in the real photo than what they are in your render. Also, try a render with hair. I think you tried this earlier but you didn't have enough hair on top.

Other tweaks:

  1. The lower lip is too full and too wide.
  2. Upper lip needs the corners to go down more
  3. Overall, the eye need to be smaller
  4. The eyeball needs to be lower, with "2 whites" showing not "3 whites"
  5. Ears need to rotate forward more
  6. Eyes need to move in more towards nose

other than that, nice work.
Also, the M3 head sculpty morphs will greatly help shape the eye lids. Good luck!

And the one on the right is naked. The one on the left has a suit, and tie, and shirt, and probably a job, and a girlfriend, and likes cheese and..... ...oh,...sorry.........................8^} (good work, really. Just thought a bit of a tickle couldn't hurt)

Ok, BastBlack, I think I understand all the suggestions, but for #4. What do you mean by 2 whites and not 3? I havent heard that one before. dave

It's a Chinese face reading term. "2 whites" means the white of the eyeball is showing left and right of the iris. "3 whites" means the white of the eyeball is showing left, right, and either below the iris or above the iris. imho, your character is leaning too far to 3 whites. Lowering the eyeball and making the eye area smaller around the eyeball will fix that. Hope that helps!

You are really close now. I believe there is a morph for nosetip down. The tip of the nose definitely needs to come down or the area below the tip (the piece of skin between the nostrils) needs to come up a smidgen. If you're making custom morphs at all, I'd focus on the nose in the nostril area. Also the models eyebrows really begin almost exactly where the lacrimal is (or the inner corner of the eye). I believe there is a morph for spacing the brows further apart. They should be spaced a little further and made a little less wide if there's a morph for it. Then lastly if there is a curve up morph for the brows, yours could use that too in a small amount. One more - if there is a morph to pull the inner corners of the eyes down, you could use that in a small amount as well. The inner corners of the models eyes are exactly at the same level and slant-ness as the outer corners. If any of those adjustments are possible, you'll have a really close likeness to the photo. ONE more thing... : ) If you can add just a tad more smile morph (and/or maybe a little mouth widening - a smidgen), you can maybe get the vertical portion of the goatee to angle out a bit more as the model's does rather than in your pic where the vertical lines are straight up and down. Hmmm - also (sorry) thin the lower lip some. Ok, that's it from me. But if you want it to be exact... : ) Dave

I'm a perfectionist as well. The nose is too bulbous in your image, and the cheeks in the photo are a bit rounder. The eyes are a different color. You might want to work on the lighting as well, and as I suggested before - put his hair back on. You are definitely getting there, though !

Okay, on a side note.... Is it just me, or is there something wrong with M3's nose? I see that blasted bump above the left nostril on dave's model too. Every time I work with M3, it's there. I have to retouch every render to get rid of the bump. It is sooooo frustrating!!!!!!!!! Didn't DAZ ever FIX this obvious problem? bB

Looks great! Good job on the face. =) There's only one more thing I haven't mentioned, and that's the dip in the chin below the lowerlip, and above the ball of the chin. (What is that area called anyway?) It looks like to me the inward dip above the chin needs to be a lot lower. (Roughly, 80%-90% the distance of distance from the top of the upper lip to the bottom of the nose.) Perhaps a profile shot will show what I'm talking about better. Are you planning to adjust for the profile with a side shot also? No doubt there will be many things in the profile shot that will need to be adjusted. bB

I've pretty much consider myself done with this one. I had originally done a version for M2 and finally got up the nerve to recreate it for M3 (mainly with intentions to use it on David since he has better joint setups). Thanks, dave
