Here are some screen shots - Just the easy stuff right now. I'just started and I won't be home to work on it much this weekend. But I'm on vacation next week so I'll have plenty of time to to tinker. The eye piece will be moved obviously, and I'm leaving some room for hair under the band.

I never understood the Splinter Cell glasses. You can see them in the dark! What's the point of that? Having used real ones for a while now it totally misses the point. May as well yse a flashlight. Real ones don't light up in front. These are looking cool by the way, I guess that's the point... Look cool for the kiddies.

Sam's goggles light up for 2 reasons - 1) so you, the player, can see Sam in the dark (same reason the sat-uplink on his back lights up) and 2) it looks cool. None of the AI controlled people in the game can see the glow. Only you, the player can.

Side straps and Buckles

DaSerialMole ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 4:07 AM

I love straps & buckles lol, great job. bet it's gonna be quite popular in the poser community. (btw still messing with the force shield thingy lol) very cool :)

TalleyJC ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 10:10 AM

Thanks DaSerialMole, these are still quick FPrime renders... I'm sure that Poser's smoothing angle is going to ballon the hell out of the detail and I'll have to use Moe's trick on snipping the polys to get it back - we'll see. Can't wait to see what you do with the shields. I've been thinking of a similar gradient trick on specularity and glossiness on a more angular piece of geometry that would work for the Borg personal sheilds.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 10:17 AM

There's an option in the properties menu, in Poser 5 at least, which can turn off the smoothing, as well as the various tricks.

Any news on the goggles? =o)

I was doing some research to find a better (more realistic) headset. I didn't see anything I really liked so I had to invent one. #8

#12 More work on the mask. It may not look much different , but the overall shape of the goggles was improved and its underside now conforms with mikes cheeks for better fit, Take a look at the forehead section and give me some feedback. It needs some bending but Mikes head must be much rounder than Sams. I'm trying to reach a comprimise between the two so the proportions don't stray to far from the over all look of sams googles. I still need to come up with a believable attachment for the buckles,

#14 - Wires: Goggles and mask are now single mesh made of quads when they used to be separate elements. This will make it more poser friendly.

Runs around excited =o) What program did you render these pics in? P5? I like the way the lenses look. EDIT: Sorry didnt see your last pic, Im guessing they were rendered in Lightwave then. =oD

#15 More Wires

TalleyJC ( ) posted Sun, 03 October 2004 at 10:38 AM

Satusgai, these are FPRIME renders out of Lightwave....Once everybody is happy, I'll start dragging it into P5..... I'll probably create some procedurals in P5 for the surfaces initally. Once there I'll make some P5 renders.

DaSerialMole ( ) posted Mon, 04 October 2004 at 2:11 AM

damn cool mate, any chance of an article about making poser props in LW? (as not to be subtle for once lol )

TalleyJC ( ) posted Mon, 04 October 2004 at 8:38 AM

Hey DaSerialMole, Its not a bad Idea. This one is probably my first serious attempt. I've picked up a couple of tips from Moe that I will be trying. I haven't exported this to poser yet so I'm sure that I'll run into some gotcha's. I'll keep notes and maybe I'll be able to come up with something.

#16 - The following ARE P5 Renders. They are tests I needed to conduct to see where to split vertices to keep P5 from turning them into balloons. I still need to connect the straps to the mask. You'll see I've started adding some geometry to do so, but it needs tweaking. Also I've created some test textures to mimic the Lightwave ones. They are temporary, I just wanted to see if I could get the lenses to look close to LW in P5. I know you've been waiting to see how they'd look in p5 so here you go.

All I can say is 'wow!'. It has certainly been worth the wait and it looks better and better each time you post. Its also inspiring to see someone who takes care with his work and does it right, so to speak. I'm sure you could have cranked some nvgoggles out in a day or two - but you didn't and it shows. Thanks for keeping this project going and for keeping us updated.
