And make sure you get some supports for your desk. And check what resolutions it can support. I have a mate who got a second hand 19" and it only went up to 1024 pixels, which is kinda pointless (IMHO) What's the footprint on it? I wouldn't have room on my desk. :-( I got a LCD as part of my package and I love it. The brightness and contrast was so much better than my old CRT. But it was 8 years old which may have something to do with it. But I'm gonna stick with LCD until I can afford a 40" plasma. Have fun.

you've had all your children..right?..;) nah, the footprint part is right, and the weight..well, I hope your Pc's not on the 2nd floor..might be best to have someone help..btw..the screen's the heaviest part..so that's where you'll need the most support..have fun.
I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Thanks All.
(Erlik) Less than $1000.00 used:)
(pakled) I have had all the kids I'm gonna have, but still ouch:! That's one heavy monitor.
(CrazyDawg) I'll send it right over to Australia for you to test. I just need a little shipping money from you about $5000.00. I'll send it as soon as the check clears;'
(drawbridgep)My best Homer Simson MmmmMmmmmmm Plasma. I have the way beefy desk it could support John Goodman, Drew Carrie, Mimi, And Newman from Seinfeld all at the same time, the monitor footprint is supposidly the same as a 21". As to my last remark I hope I did not offend If anyone reading this is Overwieght.
Ooops I mean Gravitationaly Challenged. Ooops I mean never mind I'm gonna dit in twaboo. I should talk at 200lbs, after Quiting the atkins diet (Must Have Bread And Fries)I put on 25 pounds in about 2 months.I puffed up like beach ball.Give me Rockyroad:0
I hope someone that owns one of these monitors will see this and post something to.
Thanks all

I remember reading within the last couple of weeks that CRT monitors were being discontinued due to safety reasons. For the life of me I can't remember where the post was. They said within a year or so they would no longer be manufactured and the LCD monitors would be the mainstream. Of course I don't know if the statement is true or not, especially since I can't remember where I read it.
As long as you weigh more than the monitor you will probably not die, but this statment does not allow for much velocity at impact:/

i have an 17' lcd and would never go back to crt much easier on the eyes and no radiation. as a bonus they use much less juice.
for
some free stuff i made
and
for almost daily fotos
I'd be wary of refurbs if I were you. I've known many people, including myself, that have had refurbs die within 18 months of owning it. Unless it's been factory refurbed I'd stay away. I own a new 22" Trinitron monitor too, ViewSonic P220f, and it's been great. I recommend Sony tubes to anyone, just make sure you get it new or refurbed from the factory only. As for CRTs dying out I'd rather die with them. LCD cannot handle high refesh rates like CRTs can and thus in games and video you get pixel blur. This is the crystals result of trying to refresh as fast as the screen moves, ie mostly games. Maybe in a few years the technology will be better but for now I'm happy to accept radiation and excess photons regardless of LCDs reduced eyestrain. :)
Aye, I can't imagine life without a CRT. I'm using a 17" Viewsonic, and far as I can tell it's the best 17" monitor ever made. LCD's and Plasma's don't have the refresh rates I need for (games!), and they are never, EVER going to be as bright as this bastard! Also, LCD's have a native resolution. Meaning, if you get an LCD monitor set at 1280x1024 natively, it has 1280 Liquid Crystals across, and 1024 Crystals vertically. So when you sqitch resolutions, you lose clarity as crystals can only be either on or off, not HALF of a crystal on and half off, and certainly not in thirds. I would go so far as to say that most people with LCD's, Drawbridgep excluded of course, have them for their small footprint and "futuristic" looks... Still, that's just technical BS. Get what looks good, just make sure you get a good deal!
That's OK, I'm not most people. I would have chosen an LCD even if the PC didn't have one, because I just don't have the space for a CRT. This way, my wife and I can use the same desk, on opposite sides and stare lovingly into each others eyes (when I tear myself away from Bryce that is). Now a technical question. Refresh on an LCD isn't quite the same thing as CRT, right? LCD are on the whole time. As I understand it, CRT pictures are created by a photon gun firing photons at the screen which last a certain amount of time and then the next photon comes along. That's the refresh. But an LCD is on the whole time (which is why you never see the flicker). SO the refresh means something else? Is it the time that it takes for a crystal to update to a new colour when needed? What does it mean? My LCD is set at 75 refresh, which is higher than my last CRT monitor could handle. So that means my LCD is better than my CRT, but that's just 'cause my CRT was crap?

You are dead on. An LCD does refresh, though. There's no software or hardware to tell it not to. So, every second each crystal is told to either keep it's color, or not keep it's color, but there is still some energy transfer from what I understand. The only problem with this is lifespan. Your LCD will never make it past the 8 year mark, alas... But I have seen some kickass LCD's, and if you're doing graphics at a set screen res and stuff, you'll never have any of the framerate problems we were talking about anyway, so who cares? I just like spouting off useless technical drivel sometimes, and I've been up for like ten hours working on some damned Brycean water... Grrr...
Yep in 8 years I'll Have Bryce 12.5 And the Neo Brain Plug and Jack at the base of my skull.Wont even need the monitor. By then my sony will be landfill except for the hazardous waste parts. Thanks all for all your help.lordstormdragon, ysvry, drawbridgep, markostimpy,Quikp51 .Hope I didn't miss anyone. I think I'll do the factory refurb 24" Sony Monitor CRT(Not just any refurb). Because it seems to me that they would know best how to do it right. And I'll try not to crush myself with it:>

I'm thinking about getting a 24'' Referb off lease Sony Fw900 I think it's got .23 dot pitch referb CRT about 100lbs Massive Because the big flat LCDs cost way too much I have seen just don't match the quality image a a good CRT.
