Hey everyone: It's been a really good ride so far working on Project Kaimira and things are going so well. :) Finely Kamira moved away from 3d studio max 5.1 and found her self in UVmapper. HEH A few concerns that i must think about when creating and refining material zones. I don't want to over welm the user with shit loads of material zones and making it a pain in the ass to add textures, so i thought a few key area's for mega customization. Another Main issue I must be careful with is map stretching, time and time again i hear textures out there scream no seams and no stretching. Here's the first view just importing kai into UVmapper. Blah u say u can't texture her like that! LOL ;) First thing's first I will start on Kaimira's lacrimals and eyes. and then head and body /plus MLS. Cheers Let me know if u have any wants for Uvmap spefications or materital zones. Get what you want for the money u put in, that's the most important. :D Seraphira

Ok back again. I limited the sretching in the lacrimals and will be adding to materal sections because of it's new features. :D Here's a quick view. :) Sera

Material zones for texture gloves and stockings pretty please :D

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Mon, 17 January 2005 at 11:24 AM

Could there be separate material zones for the scalp and genitals?

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Mon, 17 January 2005 at 1:35 PM

You've got me watching this one. "3rd-party" models don't usually interest me -- but Kaimira does. She looks promising. As for the material zones question -- I don't have anything to add to the things that others have already said.

*brings pop, juice, and other treats for everyone* :D Woot I am so glad u guys are having fun. I am too. But UV mapping Kaimira will be the hardest uv mapping i never done. Boy i love a challange ^_^.

Ok the update:

I'v been working on Kaimira's eyes, I thought a few ways how to do this. But I found this way would be better and u can use less maps for the eyeballs. The eyeballs will have it's own uvmap like victoria 3's and m3's. But there are far more material zones within the eyes. There are 8 material zones for each eye, So that makes 16 material zones for the eye alone. The reason for so many material zones is because the eye has a new MLS "Mesh Layering System". I wanted the eyes to be more customizable more then ever before. You always see one shade of blue or brow, some people like a touch of green or gold with silverish flecks? The Iris alone has 4 material zones so you can layer the iris colors to create muitable effects. The pupil u see will be transmapped for more added realism. Now there is a Pupil backing that will be mat black. :) Ohhh boy I can't wait to do eye textures to show u what u can really do with the eyes!

Material Listing for the eyes:

  • Right Cornea / Left Cornea
  • Right Conjective / Left Conjective
  • Right Iris 1 / Left Iris 1
  • Right Iris 2 / Left Iris 2
  • Right Iris 3 / Left Iris 3
  • Right Iris 4 / Left Iris 4
  • Right Pupil / Left Pupil

the Lacrimals has MLS option in place which allows and appears that the eye is connected to the lacrimal as it should be.

Here's a half fast preview, Mapping the eye was difficult because the stretching commonly seen in models. :(

I love her build, from what I can see. Similar to Steph Petite's without having the... harshness that her body seems to have around the hips and abdomen. UVMapping seems SO much less than fun!

Khrys: If you look in this thread, you'll be able to see a lot of the evolution of the base model. I wouldn't exactly say she's similar to the build of either V3 or SP. The face shots towards the end of the thread are great. Sera has done a really excellent job in creating a model that has a unique look to her :)

hi everyone. I have some more treats for u! U know what's gonna be the most fun part? texturing her! yahohoo I can't wait for that!. Anwers to ur questions. Yes there will be material zones for scalp, hands, and stockings for all MLS subderminals. :D For the other question about breasts, they will be posable. :) For the eyes I might be able to create some JCM goodies. I am not including the eyes that's done already lol. The uvmap is not set in stone right now as i am fine tunning the material zones to suit everyone's needs.Ok here's the following MLS/Material Zones: - Right and left Eye brow - Right and Left Top Eye Lashes - Right and Left Bottom Eye Lashes - Right and Left Eye Liner - Right and left Eye shadow 1 - Right and left Eye Shadow 2 - Right and Left Eye Shadow 3 - right and Left eye Shadow 4 - Right and Left Eye Shadow 5 - Cheek and chin Blush. - Lip Gloss - Lip Liner - Lipstick 1 - LipStick 2 Lacrimal Updates: - Right and Left Lacrimal 1 - Right and Left Lacrimal 2 :) these are one of the many things u can do with MLS options in kai. U can change and mix n' match up to 5 different eyeshadow colors using mat files and also change different eye liners to complete that special look. Change and add shine or high shine gloss on mat lipsticks, add lip liner! Yahhoooo hey u guys can make makeup packs for Kai and users to add to her makeup collection... ohhh and nails too! :D And for the guys TattooS! change mix and match tattoos with a click. :) I made MLS tattoo layer for u kids to play with. hehe arn't i evil? :D XOXOX all Here's a close up the eye mesh. :) I am gonna post uvmap updates tommrow night so u know where i am at.

I did wanted to work 14 hours non stop, too many interuptions from my family though DO'H! Best time to work is at night when everyone is snoring. heh. :D The only bummer thing which will be a bit of a pain is the ammount of material zones, but it's really needed if we want her this customizable. :) Ok guys I am confused should I conform her after i do the uvmapping? or should i texture her? u make the call! :D Sera

I think it's your call, Sera. Though a lot of us are eager to see some Poser results, you're her "mother".

Xurge ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 8:45 AM

I think you should do the Poser Rigging before the texture. This way you will know where the mapping is stretching and if there is any UV Mapping adjustment needed to compensate. Once you are happy with the uv mapping on the poseable figure, then proceed to create the textures. And it looks great so far!

Strixowl ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2005 at 11:45 AM

Hi guys, She will be able to be used and optimized for Poser 4 Pro and Poser 5. Update I had a few problems with the uvmapping, so reverting back to 3ds to create the basic material zones so can seperate each section. :) Now i am back in Uvmapper. Bleh I hate set backs lol. Ok so it's agreed i will be conforming her next. Here's another preview. :) Sera ps i still have alot to do on the uv map. I want it so the stretching is limited as much as possible.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 9:01 AM

I'm not a very good texturist. When you're talking about stretching, are you indicating breaks at the seams of the texture or at the joints of the figure?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 10:49 AM

Stretching is casued when the UV's go around a surface. Right now it seems the seam is right down the middle of the figure which would mean a nasty smearing of textures along the center points. When they are flat they show as intended but as they go around a curve they stretch and smear. That is what "stretching" is sort of. Hope that explains.

3DNeo ( ) posted Thu, 20 January 2005 at 11:39 PM

Looks good from what little I understand. I would love to see a better figure than Daz V3/S3 out there on the market. What I'm looking for is a more realistic figure with full genital, hip, buttock morphs that can be put in any pose position without coverup of the hip/genital areas. The V3/S3 are good, but doing sitting or croutching poses hides any detail of the genital area or some buttock areas. It just won't allow you to make a real life human pose in some positions. Also, the Daz figures just don't have the required meshes in those areas. They were left out of the design. I would love to see someone come along and give us an alternative to Daz figures that are more detailed and real. Many of us have powerful computers with 2+ GIG of ram, fast processors, etc. waiting for something new. Also, I think it's high time we get someone competing with Daz so we get improvements from all parties. A sort of look what I did, now top this sort of thing. Your figure looks like an excellent start and I can't wait to see the final product. Keep up the good work and let us know when and where we can get it. Cheers!

Jeff

Hi everyone. I am creating material zones for the tattoo MLS, and now I don't want to make too many material zones but yet I want to have enough to customize Kaimira. Here's an image the large sections of Kai's torso front and back. Now the debait is should I just have front and back for each section? or so i do left and right for both sides? Ahh the horror! 3D Neo, she will push posers program to the extreme limits. It's still not known how much ram it would be required to run her as of yet, I will be testing on a lower grade systems. Uvmapping will take a bit because the of MLS option and each of the mls has material zones. Cheers Seraphira

DCArt ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2005 at 10:04 PM

Uvmapping will take a bit because the of MLS option and each of the mls has material zones. You know, I'm thinking that the morphing of the face will also be difficult because of the extra layers.

Seraphira ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2005 at 10:13 PM

not really, say in a 3d program like 3ds, a user can use soft selections. There will 100's of morphs to play with. :D She will all be set up nicely.

Xena ( ) posted Fri, 21 January 2005 at 10:22 PM

I think Deecey means for us to make them in something like Poser with magnets :) Because no matter how many morphs you make, we'll find at least one we want that you didn't LOL

Hmmm, I just remembered that figures like Elle came with more than 1 version of the figure. You could have a figure with MLS and one without. The one without could be useful to 3rd party developers wanting to create maps and morphs for Kai. Here's my list of morphs: Stylized morphs Fairy morphs African Asian Hag Old Ear attached Lashes curl You're doing a great job :)

ynsaen ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2005 at 8:55 PM

All morphs should be side independent, as well -- that is, both a left and right and/or top and bottom. SO they can be set up separately.

kobaltkween ( ) posted Sun, 23 January 2005 at 3:40 AM

the main thing i'd request is the use of real references (which you've already been doing). most of my problems with the v3 morphs have to do with them being more of a concept than anything even vaguely related to reality. also, the biggest problems emerge when you look at her from any angle besides the front.

3DNeo ( ) posted Sun, 23 January 2005 at 8:11 AM

cobaltdream: "also, the biggest problems emerge when you look at her from any angle besides the front." I couldn't agree more. What I wanted to do involved looking at V3 from several angles and required nudity. While I know some don't think nudity replication is an issue, I always argue that even if you pose your characters fully clothed you can't have a true replication of the human body without it. So, to make a long story short, I stoped my development of poses and a couple of items for V3 for this very reason. There's no way to make V3/S3 look realistic. Then I started to wonder why no one had ever given Daz any real compeition to their figures. Poser is capable of MUCH more than Daz has ever done or is likely to do. Then I found this thread and what was being done. WHOW, what a wonderful feeling. Somone that actually cares about what other want to see and putting their heart into the project fully. Seraphira has my support already!! :)
