This is quite interesting, thanks for sharing. I'm going to try it out as soon as I can. :) Does transparency work with this technique though? SnowS Hoping his pictures are worth 1001 words.

I tried it and got exactly the same results as I would by simply choosing to anti-alias the document window and exporting the image. Can you explain the initial exporting and saving steps in more detail? Thanks, take care. SnowS

....Thanks......first, when I refer to render I mean using the render settings to their fullest (Apply textures, anti alias, cast shadows, etc.). Sorry I wasn't clear about that, but if you render this way the image will be washed out due to the high intensity of the lighting. A single frame "render" (i.e., render to an AVI file using the current display settings) was used. I then opened the AVI in Adobe Premiere and extracted the single frame as a bitmap. You could probably achieve this by changing the render settings, but I find the AVI render gives me more flexibility with the size I can set the image to (the document window only allows me to go up to about 750X750 max and I've had trouble rendering to a new window in Poser even with the patches). Transparency sort of works however it is the grainy look you see before you render, not the refined transparency produced when a render is complete. Krel
heyas; in other words, if you render like a normal render, it won't look this way. if you cheat and use animation render, you can 'render' in the 'current display mode,' instead of fully rendered. it gives slightly different results. i haven't done this, but i'm pretty sure you can just tell poser to render a one frame animation to a sequential tif file, and skip the extracting bitmaps from an avi bit. :)
I still don't follow. How is rendering a single frame and rendering a single frame as an avi any different in Poser? I can get the same results with either, depending on how I set it to render. Rendering an avi using current display settings does not render lights, textures, bump maps, etc. Or even anti-alias unless you select it. This is the same for rendering a non-avi scene. Just go into the render properties window and uncheck everything, leaving anti-alia on or off, depending on what you want. Is this not the same as rendering an avi with current settings? Like I said, I've tried and get the same results so maybe I am missing something here? Anyhow, your results came out very nicely. You can do the same thing as the Avi render by anti-aliasing the document (go to render antialias) and then paste the pic onto the background and export it as an image to file. By the way, you can add those nice paper texture effects to a pic this way. Load background. Turn on paper texture, such as paper grain. Paste to background. Turn off paper grain setting. Background now has paper grain effect. Rob
Let me correct a mis statement. Rendering an avi will render the texture setting currently displayed so if show texture is on you will get some texture. This is not the same as rendering the pic by going into the properties window and unchecking everything but antialias and rendering the pic. It is the same, however, as antialiasing the document and pasting it to the background. When you paste a pic this way or render it as an avi bump maps, reflect maps, and transmaps do not really have any effect. Basically what you see is what you get. Rob
I'm getting the same results as shadownet, rendering as an AVI with current settings gives me exactly the same results as simply chooing anti-alias document from the Render menu (except for the image size). Your example looks great, but I think either you got very lucky, or it took an extra step or two to get to that point. ;) For those who didn't know though, playing with the Curves in Photoshop can make Poser work look hand-painted too. I used it on my last image (The Serpent Slayer), and it single-handedly gave life to what was a very dark and artificial original scene. Fooling with that and the Color Balance scales can really make a difference. SnowS
