can anybody give me some helpful tips on "poser". im a first time user and boy am i lost!!! i have much greater respect for all the fantastic artists on these pages! any help would be greatly appreciated!!

What version of Poser do you have? (P4, Pro Pack or P5)?

g glad I could help. another thing is: just try yourself - experiment with the figures, pose them. turn the lightings, use the lights out of the lights-section of the library. it takes some time and my first render was an exported figure from P4 to Bryce since I wanted a sky in there. looks kind of awful but I still got it in my art collection. With your Reference Manual came a "Quick Start" (that thingy, you can flip and turn around). On that, youll find a little introduction to all of the icons on the screen youve been staring for 20 mins (:-) (I know the feeling g) Take yourself the time to take a look at it and on the screen - see how you can use it on the screen (after take a figure out of the figure section out of the library (on the right) (double-click the figure). See what the mouse pointer does on the figure, when you click on the figure in the pose room and so forth ...

Try using a search engine, such as Google, to search for "Poser tutorials". There's no shortage of them, really. There's also a link at the top of this forum for newbies, it's called "Poser Forum FAQ". That answers most of the frequently asked questions that the forum is tired of newbies asking when they haven't taken the time to read it or to use the "search" link (right next to the "post a new message" one you used instead). Also, it helps if the title of your post has something to do with your question. Like "New to Poser, need tutorials" or something like that. Then folks, like me, won't click on your post and get ticked off that it's just another newbie asking for links to tutorials without searching first and respond in a crabby manner... like this. Good luck and have fun. Then read the manual. ;)

maybe there should be a "prima donna " section that way you could always rest assured your going to answer worthwhile questions and be among your equals!?

This IS the prima donna section. You obviously didn't read through very many of the posts here or you'd have realized that. ;)

Also, do a forum search for Dr Geep. He has a few, a lot, a ton, a slew, nay verily a raging rash of tutorials that cover the basics and functions of both Poser 4 and 5(and the P4 tutes, with a few exceptions, cover the same functionality in P5 as well). And he makes them fun.... And anyone planning to prime donna, please use something other than that tacky rust red junk you see on all those old cars.....

Ben Dover, I am sure you mean well, but IMHO the information above your last post was already rich, generous and excellent (including your suggestion). Much of it refered to the Poser Manual with chapters given, which does not require the person to "flounder around" at all. And what did you/we receive so far for our generosity? a scolding from a newbie in post 18. My opinion is that the person coming in here, so far, is a pure "taker" and has not ante'd up an ounce of effort so far, except for the ability to type in exclamation marks. The person expresses respect for the artists here in the first post, but does not demonstrate that respect through actions. The person has, however, deonstrated the willingness and ability to intimidate and manipulate through 'hurt feelings' that the plate they were handed their request on was not gold plated. Thats my considered opinion. ::::: Opera :::::

No problem gdmc2710, good bye. Now that the person is gone, does anyone want to express their criticism of my post, as Tunsey already has? This is the second time this has happened recently with me involved. Go ahead, take you shots but please make factual points. By the way, Tunsey, my response to you is simply this: "I am lost" was NOT the person's only sin. That they showed no initial initiative was sin1, which all us forgave without even mentioning it. Sin two, did not show initiative after given fine suggestion by maddy and others. After that, the person was nudged a little. The person WAY over reacted, that was sin 3, and then scolded the forum, sin 4. The last time somone went running away crying hurt and mad at me, several forum regulars criticized me, a few flamed me hard. I allowed as how one part of one post I made might have been too harsh. I apologized in the forum, AND IMed the person with an apology. I was willing to do that, even though I believed I was going to far. I DID get an IM back, and the person apologized TO ME that they had overreacted because of somthing in their personal life and that my post had NOT hurt them. They came back to the forum. So, I am open to a discussion about, really, how far do you go with a new person? I will defend the position that you go far and be polite, mild and generous, but not if the person offers NOTHING, or, like the person in this thread, less than nothing. ::::: Opera :::
