Subject: Bad obj import in Poser5???

Ok, I created a set of sandals in Shade7.2. I then exported the sandals as an obj. I then imported into Poser5, where they look like junk(triangulated beyond hell). I thought it was Shade, so I used scaler, scaled the sandal up 100x. I then imported the scaled obj into Silo, where I subdivided the meshes twice. The sandals appeared fine. I then opened the scaled and subdivided sandal in Amapi Pro7.5. The sandal looks really good, so I scaled it back down to Poser level. I then imported the obj into Poser5, and it still looks like crap. Why does Poser handle some geometries fine, but bungles others? -The Starkdog

The top pic is in Shade Standard 7.2. This pic is how Poser5 "chewed" this sandal up.

It looks like you're having polygons with more than 4 vertices, which many programs (including Poser) don't really like. I don't know much about modeling in Shade or Amapi, but I would guess they have a command to convert the geometry to quads.

trying taking it into UVmapper and spliting the vertices... ;)

Poser 5 tries to give any importet object some kind of "organic look" You can turn this off in the render settings (Smooth polygons) I also would take www.UVMapper.com I guess to split the vertices you need the pro version but it is woth the money if you want to work professional with poser. All my items in the marketplace have split vertices.

You can split vertices with UV Mapper standard. In UV Mapper Select then sole of the sandle and split verts. Inport into Poser and it should be fine. Bear in mind Poser will convert all poly into quads. (Have a look at your object in the setup room and you will see... they're all quads!) I go through the same pain everytime I model something in 3ds max. I sit back and think... ahh that looks great... and then I import it into Poser and watch it destroy all my beautiful work. My advice... if you're working with Poser, make sure you take a high density model in and hope that Poser doesn't screw it up too much. Nice Sandals by the way. thanks NeilP

You can use PoseRay to fix this problem by breaking the mesh by crease and reimporting it into Poser.

Check the gallery in the provided link for a sample of a model fixed by PoseRay.
