Oh and feel free to rip the model apart as well. Any C&C welcome.

Creating a net texture is actually kind of easy...it will be getting it to flow and sag in the right places that will be more difficult.
Try something like this image for the transmap or perhaps something with more space between the white bits.
But if this is modeled in Bryce it will probably come out too even rather than stretched.
If it is modeled in something like Wings you could UV map it.
The netting part was made in Wings. Plz don't tell me to UVMap. I can't get the hang of that program. I've tried a bunch of tuts and my examples never look like the ones pictured. I'm just stupid.

Model looks good :) Did the model come from a refernce image, cos I like its detail. One little question - can the bottom bucket/weight of the trebuchet swing through (as the arm launches the missile) without hitting the ground as it swings - can't tell from this angle.

I created the entire thing from scratch in Bryce with a little help from Wings. The reference image came from an article from my local newpaper on "How catapults married science, politics and war." The reference was a very bad wood cut illustration. So I had to use a fair amount of imaination.
Yeah, you're probably right about the counter-weight bucket. It'll most likely hit the ground, but hey, it ain't posable and its not as if little poserites will be using it to seige bryce made fortifications.
I'll be posting it in the freebies area, as soon as I find the most economical way to host it somewhere.

I was getting ready to follow comment along Claymor's line. If you insist on a net, and realism is almost a requirment, the net really should be more like a bucket, with some solid straps holding the edges to up and apart. Draculaz' offering would be perfect if the grid stopped before it started to taper to a "point." Jim PS I have absolutely no idea how go about this. :-)
Of course you're right about the sling net. I was just being lazy. I'll give it another try. Making ropes and nets in Bryce isn't easy.
