in the material room you can add there the ambient occlusion to your light or figures or props, I know this function from other software.. but it works amazing in Poser6, I wonder why the promo images was so bad, you can well set it to work better and that was one thing from many why I buy poser6.. for the AO I prepare some more test and will upload about 5 min :)

I made here another test with organic model of my Chester..
I am not used any special settings for the surface the model is just set to white color.
I made 2 light, first is created with a grey scale image IBLAO what allow you to keep the original colors of your textures and surface, I set the contrast of IBL to 0.90
to get more real light effect and I love the light so much, with one light you get just what you expect.. the rendering time using IBLAO is litle slower but not that slow and I like this.. the model surface get so much more details using this light.. the other render was made suing the same image but in color, so another very interesting effect.. I have here many HDRI maps that I made for Poser5 and now I can use it for P6 as a HDRI effect and not only IBL.. but more about tomorrow with human realistic renderings that I will prepare...
I hope you like the previews of the images.. it give you really nice quality but everything need own time and good eye...

thanks :) for real it have to simulate the Global or HDRI illumination I guess.. It was funny but how more I scaled the model how better the shading looks like, I compared the p4 frog with chester and the effect was excellent..
we got it as they promised and that is top!

Excellent light and shading. You are correct that it makes model looks organic with good lights. I am glad that I dont see any nasty shadow/shading like in promos!! :-)
Can you please do other test with a hi res figure with subsurface scatter?
(Can't wait to get my P6 BOX!!) grin

Now we're cookin'. That is thrilling. Very happy to wait for human realistic render in your "own time and good eye." ::::: Opera ::::: P.S. There is nothing more common in the marketplace and even in Publishers's promo images for their own product then poor, unimaginative renders. It warps everything.
Hi Cath, great renders! If you prefer your light probes in greyscale, you actually don't have to modify the bitmap. You can just plug in the new HSV node (from the Math node category) between the light root node and the image map. Then reduce the Saturation parameter as desired. Same effect, but procedural and therefore quicker and much more flexible.
Thanks for the tip :) sometimes I have to do this as well, because I go to preapre the shadows and dark areas on the images self.. if they are to dark and have to much contrast you will get the strange dark shadows that are not for edit in Photoshop ;) I figured out that the creators of the IBL AO did the light setting not really in the best way.. they forgot something between.. but for now it is my little sweet secret ;) ( I have to make another tests before I explain)

ROFL!!!!! I was saying the same thing, that textures and lighting had a lot to do with it moreso than the renderer. You silly goose!!!!! 8-)
One of the reasons that I couldn't get my renders to look as good as this is because this type of lighting was VERY new to me, and I had a limited amount of time to learn it because I was focusing on a lot of the other features. I'm soaking this all in too. 8-)
It appears that Cath has worked with this type of lighting before, so she knows what to look for and what to expect. These terms ... ambient occlusion, image based lighting, GI, and HDRI are new and confusing to me, so bear with me please. I may have a LOT of questions. 8-)

Not any more - P6 has the cure for the scale problem built-in. AO has a max distance parameter, instead of scaling the model you can get the very same effect by reducing the AO max distance. Click the "scene AO options" in the light's properties, there you can change the max distance.

You can't get most out of 3D environment without proper light and material. Texture is just detail map nothing more. Material is essential for light reaction from property. I can make excellent looking cartoons with this renderer.
I m not silly goose. I did not get my P6 and the promos were so awful. I thought the renderer were the same in previous version. Mec4D, Cath, pushed her renderer to the limit and got most out of her new P6.

HI DefaultGuy!!! and thanks Stefan :) have to test now the bump and textures right now.. I love the way it works with the AO, the displacement is so realistic with but have to be careful with the setting because is very sensitive and to get a grey monster is not big problem as we know already from P5:) the day is getting more and more exciting! hmmmmmm when you get your boxes in your hands!!!! lol how can you torture yourself!

Gentlemen and Ladies, Ladies and Gentlemen, Stonemason posted very important link to an image AO with comparison to dirt and no dirt shadow. http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d/r85/images/dirt_nodirt.jpg It was discussed at http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=2177495 I have made my point about nasty shadow that still exist in P6 in other thread. But Cath made good renderer and decreased nasty shadow dramtically in the images above but not completely. The left statue in the image shown in link provided has AO interacted with color tempature to balance the shading.
you know what, poser AO looks much better as that from maxon above... you can get cleaner if you use the option on the light that is not problem to do, but I just don't want to get to clean or it will looks the same as before.. I just playing 2 days with my dear! look the ball, there was clean and beautiful.. normal you can add AO to the figures self but this will not works :( I get strange black areas so no way.. I think my Chester above looks very clean and good with the AO

Hi Cath, the strange black areas you're talking about sound like self-shadowing (the ray hits the polygon it was sent from and reports full occlusion). Modifying the Bias setting (raising it carefully) can avoid such problems. That said, using AO on the lights is the most convenient option and recommended in most cases.
