Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
Technically, you're not doing anything wrong. Poser has simply been very unforgiving with its smooth-shading algorithms, at least until recently. The traditional methods of creating hard edges in Poser involve splitting the vertices along those edges, or adding a tiny bevel. Poser 6 has a new crease-angle feature that will usually correct the problem automatically, but that option isn't available in earlier versions.
Get a copy of UVMapper and on the tool bar hit Tools > Vertices > Split Vertices. The problem is that Poser renders polygons so that they will bulge. This is so that the figure models are more life like and without flat planes. UVMapper has a variety of tools to maintain dynamic geometry and weld polygons to make models more Poser friendly.

Ive just finished modeling the Dornier DO335 and Im about to start with the UV-mapping, texturing and bump mapping. The model will be released as a poser product later on.
As you can see in the image Im having problems with the phong shading. It looks OK in the C4D-version but the hard edges (edges with broken phong shading) turn soft (red areas) when imported into Poser (exported as obj from C4D).
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
