I know that someone paid $50,000 for a urinal that they could have bought at a hardware store for $50. They paid that much because the urinal was on display at an art gallery and was told that it was art. Paying for a subscription does not guarantee good art. It just means that poor people are excluded from participation. I doubt if that will create good art. The fact is that we have a range of people here. Some are novices, and some are professionals, and some are talented amateurs, and they are all sharing space in the galleries, and, if we get lucky, the novices learn from the more experienced people. I don't think Renderosity is meant to be a sanctum of art elitists...it is meant, isn't it, to be a place to learn and share. No, I don't have a gallery. I took mine down when I realized I had no talent. But I defend the right of the novices who are still working on their skills to participate as fully as those with more developed talents. Should I be excluded because I have no gallery? Or should I pay in order to be an audience? I know what your answer would be. Art is practice, practice, practice. This is a place where people come to practice. And I have seen people grow over time and the person you think is ill suited to be here to day may turn out to be the 3d equivalent of da Vinci in another few months. We'll never know unless we give them a chance. We can help people learn and grow. Or we can shut them down because they aren't perfect the first time. Which is healthier for the community? I'm probably wrong. I'm not an artist, and I don't pretend to be an art critic. But the day this community is closed to all but the art elite is the day I stop supporting it. Which is no great loss, I know. Except to me.
ok.
for one a really good pin up takes ALOT of work to do.
to get luminosity of the flesh..the soft gilded glow to the highlights the cloths to fit correctly or the post to look valid. the joints correct and to get something nice and not just vulgar.
not all nudes are pieces of crap. and someone assumeing it took five minutes to toss one out is insulting those that bust their rump for hours on end to get something that works.
Yes there are works in the gallery that are slap dash and then hailed as masterpieces. but I take offence to you making it sound like nudes are crap.
it takes ALOT of work to get one to look nice and not like some playdoh posed figure of a humanoid.

To play that old record again: The last time i looked, posting bad-art was not a violation of the Renderosity TOS. And again you see something come by that is attempting to ban bad-art from Renderosity. And again it is a bad idea because it will exclude people who might be not as good, beginners who have yet a long way to go and plainly people who have a good time with making and posting picture. A subscription to RO is no garantuee for good art. Participation in the forums, giving honest critics, helping the newbies will help but only if the other side is listening. That's a point that should be worked on.

I don't know why you think Renderosity used to have high quality art.I've been a member here since 2000 and I seem to recall it was always naked Posette and later naked Vicki who dominated the galleries.
I do agree that there's a lot of crap in the galleries, but that's nothing new by a long shot.
Don't believe me? Check out R'sity's all time "Most Viewed" (which goes back to 1999).
In fact, now that I look, I see a couple in the Most Viewed that are TOS violatios as of the latest changes. shrug

Sigh, not this gripe again. What maybe crap to you may not be crap to others. There's alot of beginners and yeah, I'm one of them that are still learning. No need to insult folks that are learning or if the art isn't to your liking. I think some of you need something new to gripe about. Devart is a crap website where they all are too busy patting each other on the back and sucking up to get comments. It's a joke at best. I've been to that site. It's a tight little group of artist that think they're god's gift to the artworld. I've seen crap art on their too. and the day this site goes subscription to post artwork is the day I'll be outta here. I've spent far too much money as it is on my Poser habit to have to pay to upload artwork on top of it so if you're that rich and can afford it then by all means go pay to upload your art somewhere else. :) (my humble opinion)

To quote something my art teacher in high school said "Art is about expressing one's feelings or telling a story without words." Not all of us were blessed with talent, but we deserve the same chance for a creative outlet. By who's standards is this "real art" you speak of anyway? A pay site won't insure quality. It would just exclude many wonderful artists who can't afford it. That would be a travisty, to deny them a place to release their emotion and reach out to touch someone else who may be feeling the same.
Hows about this? http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=698564&Start=1&Artist=takezo3001&ByArtist=Yes This is the closest that I came to posting a nude...IN a temple no less LOL!! This particular piece took me TWO WEEKS to complete, and there's NO post-work {Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just don't have My pen yet! 8P} I custom morphed the V3 char, did the background in bryce, produced ALL the textures (save for the V3 char}using custom P5 matirials, and even converted a CONFORMING cloth for the cloth room, with a general system/program crash every 40 renders!......And I STIIILL only recieved only 228 viewings......But I ain't complaining..Grumble, grumble,grunt,grunt...EErrrr...ok just a bit...Hee hee! I DO sympathize with You though, It IS kinda IRRRatatin' to have 90% of V2/3 clothes with only the Damnably default/stock morphs included, I just wish they'd include more morphs other than 400+ boob-morphs! it does seem that everythings made for the Cut&paste style that folks like o use! And to those that DON'T fall into that catigory then I'm not referring to You! I don't mind the cut&paste method, just realize that it should not be the "Norm" for everybody!...By the way I STILL love renderosity, TOS revisions, and all!
I'll 2nd that "hhaaiiilll-no", lol. AS (mod)

How do you get to Joe's Diner?
Well....you take a left out of here.....drive about a mile, and then get onto Route 66..........it's just over there on the right after the first light that you come to.
It's a popular place. Lots of people eat there. From all walks of life.
Even guys driving pickup trucks with gun racks. And those High Art types from the studio next door, too. And some grandmas that work at the teddy bear factory down the road.
Makes for an interesting atmosphere, sometimes..........but everybody's welcome to eat there.
And there's no cover charge to get in.
BTW - some people don't like Joe. I don't understand why.
But he sets a great table. Bon appetite.
You can't miss the place. It's the one with more cars in the parking lot than any of the other restaurants in town.
Joe's Diner features an eclectic menu. Everything from greasy cheese burgers with fries to pheasant under glass and brie. Take your pick. It's located in the country music capital......but a lot of Europeans and New Yorkers eat there right alongside us truck-drivin' southern redneck types. Interestin' ambiance.......but I like it, y'all.
HEH,heh, You said it! Talk about ecletic! I've dread-locks down to My arse,(don't like reggae too much..go figure!} grew up listining to 70's radio, heavy/thrash metal, japanese folk music, Chet Atkins,Joe satriani, and now Johhan Sabastion Bach, as well as Major artistic influances as Charles M. Shultz,Frank Frazzetta, Norman Rockwell, AND the God-like Rembrant! Yeah... looks like I'm stuck here! LOL! ;^)
And those waitresses.........! Funny thing, though. About 90% of them are named Victoria.
Well it's a good metaphor for the gallery if everybody gets a turn at cooking a meal at Joe's Diner and some are better at cooking than others. Some like their coffee black and others like to dress it up with cream and sugar or fancy latte's and expressos. There's room for all kinds of tastes in the galleries. Making it a pay site won't improve the art since it's practice and talent that makes artists better not just money, if that was true Bill Gates would be a better artist than Boris Vallejo.

Faeries and nekked poser elves when the TOS hammer came down! Meanwhile there's still a nice young faerie picture introducing the poser forum and more than plenty of young poser girlies for sale on the rotating banners in the most provocative displays. May as well cover all the basic same olds in these repeat threads. Heard the funniest review today. They claim that the new Amityville Horror movie is so bad, well, there's nothing worse than a really bad remake of an already bad movie! How's that for derailing? I prefer Harvey's.
The novel was ten times better than the movie. Maybe if they did the movie like the novel it would have done better. I loved that novel, when it first came out it scared the hell out of me. Another remake of 'Amityville? Shuddering at the mere thought. :D On a side note: why dont these orginal posters of these topics ever come back? lol.
Maybe the venting from the 1st post got it out of their system, unfortunately it seems that other have an inexhaustible supply of venting to do, so these threads continue long after the equine has been ground to bits

Interesting thoughts on venting. In the winter I close the vents upstairs so I get heat downstairs. In the summer I close the vents downstairs so I can get things cool upstairs. Vents are great because they allow heat and cold to spread around the home. Without vents we would either freeze or squelter in the heat. There's vents in my car that turn up and down and sideways too, also a bonus. Did you know that we vent from our mouths and also from our butts? Both are a real relief too. One should never try to prevent venting for very long or one might explode, or even worse implode!!
It's always a good idea to use dangerous chemical substances in a well-ventilated area. The forums are a well-ventilated area. In fact, the forums are just about the most well-ventilated area that I can think of.
They claim that the new Amityville Horror movie is so bad, well, there's nothing worse than a really bad remake of an already bad movie!
I don't know all of the details......but I've also heard that the original -- supposedly true -- Amityville story was actually a total fabrication. And that strong evidence supports this.
The original Amityville movie was a pretty big hit in its day. It spawned I don't know how many sequels -- 7? 8? If I cared about it, then I could take the trouble to look the number up, I suppose.
In any case, the "true" story that the movie is based upon is likely a fake. Made up for publicity/money -- or some other such reason. If so, then the fake story has achieved its intended purpose.
I think I know what happened. Someone wanted to vent about some old run down house on the street that was depreciating the real estate in their neighbourhood. Wasn't doing any good to vent and be rid of the horrible home or hide the fact it was there. So all the people got together and made the ugly eyesore into some awful haunted place that would attract the right kind of attention and next thing you know there's Amityville 2024 and then some, and everybody in that neighbourhood is now richer than ever, even if they only owned a haunted anthill in the area! In fact, I heard the ants drive ant porsches and wear ant spats. People love believing in the unusual and odd, and spending lots of money on it, and what can you expect from the masses when they would even spend five hundred a head just to get a glimpse of Michael Jackson walking into a courtroom, so what does that tell you about people?! Bet you the locked threads get more views than all others. If we say the right stuff here this one will also get shackled. Sell hot dogs and nachos while you can.
Just do a Google search on the terms amityville house hoax and read for yourself. It's almost certain that it was a hoax, designed to sell books and gain notoriety. In fact, there had been a rather grisly murder scene in the hosue some time before (several members of the same family), and that might have given the owners who concocted the haunting story the idea, but in any event, there's very good evidence that the haunting was a hoax and just about no evidence of any paranormal activity (well, there are people who study that sort of thing). Just FYI. bonni

"Before the 'Omen' there were no satinist. No ritual murders, no goths...blah blah blah" Before poser there was no dork, no demon baby, no hot twenty, no big breasted Vickies with swords by temples, no complaints about a TOS banning faeries and nekked imps, no constant complaints about too many comments on poor work and not enough on the rest. See how life works in silly circles? It always takes something to make something happen, good and pretty or bad and ugly. As long as the world is turning, and someone is having fun jingling their keys in their pockets, who cares? When the jingling creates a hole, go buy new pants!
The original Amityville movie was a pretty big hit in its day. It spawned I don't know how many sequels -- 7? 8? It did? I was just a youngin then. I barely remember going to the movie and after I saw it said I would never see it again, yeah, it was supposed to be a true story. But, sometimes I wondered about that. Omen, the orginal was awesome. The ones after that sucked. Hollywood needs to stay away from sequels because they can never get it right. and I cant believe this thread isn't locked yet LOL
Sequals are not always bad, some have been better or have added to the old, Mad Max as an example, Alien as another. What they have to stop doing is so many bad 'remakes'. They hardly ever work and are as bad as colorizaton, it usually destroys the original movie or takes away from it big. There are exceptions I guess, like Titanic. Consider remakes like PSP tubings only with permission and you know what to expect, just lots of added sparkles and blinkies and once in a while if you get great actors and a revamped story making for a shocker hit; but most of the time it's just a money grabber on something familiar that worked before and might work again with some added twinkies. Ever notice that once big hits end up on DVD rental shelves there's zoodles of clones released just before or at the same time? Isn't the imagination something?!
I believe that several of the Amityville sequels were direct-to-video schlock that never saw the inside of a multiplex theater. In some cases, the plots had absolutely nothing to do with the original story -- the producers just slapped the name "Amityville" onto the box in order to sell a few extra copies of a dreary excuse for a movie...........
On the other hand, I've heard it stated that Amityville II was actually a better movie than the original Amityville Horror.
Getting back on track with the topic at hand, I have to agree with a comment above that when I really get steamed, tis better for me to stay away from the keyboard than to hurt anyone else with it - sometimes the more PO'ed I get, the better my renders turn out to be ;) imagine that LOL - some of my best textures and images have come out of extreme moods.
As for making this a pay site, as the saying goes "if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns." If its pay to play, then only those with $ can play - and on that note, I concur with some of the opinions above. I'd be outta here on the next bus if that happens.
My work may not be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but heck, without Poser and the like, I'd be more psychotic that I am now LMAO ;) - Cheers!

What is happening to Renderosity !! the Galleries seem to have nothing but scantily clad women and nymphs these days or just really BAD ARTWORK.... and to add insult to injury people are saying how great some of it is and in reality its just crap. A lot of the members on here need to learn the difference between plopping an object on a page and calling it art or actually designing and implementing a piece of art. Most of the work I do takea days like some of the other real artists on here but for gods sake stop applauding people that bang something together in 5 minutes and upload expecting all the accolades of a real artist... Its time that Renderosity started looking at perhaps paid subscriptions and we can start to see some quality art being shown in the galleries again as opposed to the onslaught of titties and undies that seems to make up most of the images these days. I used to enjoy the quality of Renderosity but of late it seems to have really dropped off.. so until you can weed out the non art and pornography thats more and more evident on here Im outa here and will happily pay the yearly subscription to Deviant Art to seem some quality comments and what we are all here for SOME QUALITY ART Im outa here
