I hit the point where I've tried so many wrong ways to do something that I can no longer thing stright. I want to create a simple hallow conic section in the spline modeler, but all I've been able to make are some pretty bizarre shapes. I've tried lathing, several envelopes, extrude paths, various cross sections, the spiral preset (which gets me close but not close enough) I know it's possible but I can't figure out what the _blank I'm doing wrong. I've been working on it so long I've forgotten what I need it for :) Here's an example of what I'm attempting, I did this in Bryce, I know I could use a boolean in Carrara but I'd rather do it with a spline.

You could try the vertex modeler, I don't use the spline modeler much.

I recreated your object in just a couple of minutes in the Vertex modeler. The Spline modeler is nice for a lot of things, but I don't think there is anyway to create an object with non-parallel ends in the spline modeler. I too don't use the Spline modeler much anymore. The Vertex modeler is a lot more versatile.

I'm amazed! Thanks to the sugestions and Carrara's PDF help files I was able to make the shape in no time flat! I created two ovals on the same plane one with a larger diameter, duplicated both, moved and rotated one set, then lofted all 4, detached the inner polygons and deleted them, and presto!! WOW, Lofting is fantastic, I've been playing with it all night. I've been intimated by the vertex modler for the longest time, but I'm not gonna let that hold me back any longer. Thanks.

Back to the spline modeler, I was able to almosst recreate it using the spline modler, but I can't get the ends non-parallel,is it possible to rotate the plane that holds the last cross-section? I can kinda do it with the sprial function, specifing the number of turns to less than 1, say .25, but it adds a curve that I don't want and I can't get rid of it. I'm not sure why I'm still interested in doing it the spline modeler, since the vertex method worked so well, maybe I'm just manic?

I kinda like the spline modelel cuz it's easy and fast to do silly things like this. :*P

Sorry for the stupid example above. Not very helpful. However, for a short turn, using the spline modeler with the 'Pipline' extrusion preset allows you to adjust the 3D axis rotation of all cross sections independently using the extrusion path bezier controls. Mark
