I've been doing a few tests and this is one issue that keeps coming up. The masts on the building keep strobing even at relatively close distances. I have increased the AA from 70% to 95% but the only change is an increase in render times.

I have also run the model in Lightwave using FPrime with GI enabled and med AA quality. The transition quality is far better.

My next tests involve historical aircraft that have a number of machine gun and radio antenna. It would be great if I could find a setting that I am overlooking that clears this up.

TIA

Rich

Maybe the antenna is to thin, you can try to make it a little bit larger, it can help I think. How is it modelled? (is it just a polygon, or an extrusion of a triangle or a circle) You can try to do some try on higher resolution picture to see if the problem appears too.

I think this is caused by the geometry being much smaller than a pixel. Try to enable superior AA and see if that improves.

I have been running tests since I posted this. I am modeling spires and rendering in Vue to see what Vues sampling tolerances are for varying sized geometry and angles. So far so good.

The reason why I posted the Lightwave test is to illustrate that a program can define thin geometry and scale them as they near the camera without strobing. The Lightwave settings were at medium compared to Vues 95% with increased sampling. Right now my ideas behind the problem are only speculation, but I expect I'll have some general geometry rules as I get more tests done.

Thanks,

Vue appears to have a rendering exception when it comes to scaling fine geometry to or from the camera. It is not based on GI, AA settings, fog, distance blur, or other rendering effect.

In the two video examples one set of spires has a uniform construction and is close to artifact free at 75% AA and basic sampleing. Motion has close to no effect. The other spire geometry varies more with finer structures. The results even after increased sampling and 95% AA and with camers motion is strobing.

One scenerio that may present similar problems would be a camera going down a street. The Light posts, signal lights, and Utility posts could flicker as they draw near the camera.
