I'd volunteer, but I can't figure out how to do one magnet, let alone 90 of them!!! I love the idea of a clothing converter kit to convert clothes, but I think I'll have to wait for one that works similar to "the tailor"; plug in figures, check boxes and the program does the rest.

Thank you everyone for such fast testing. I am getting some results back already. Some things I would like to cover, that I have not mentioned before. 1) The user instructions in the readme.txt are accurate. That may not be illustrative enough for beginners, this is why I have a tutorial at http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=36577 The tutorial covers some things that don't apply to this product, but the readme.txt is very accurate about what is and what is not included in this package and what are or what are not inharrent problems. 2) This product handles shoes of all types very well, with one exception. It is common for artists to change the pose of the skeleton in the shoe with in the cr2 - this is often done in high heeled shoes. This set of magnets are made for the default pose to the skeleton. Its my guess that less than 20% of shoes would fall into this other catigory. I must also point out in these cases, there would be an infinite variation of skeletal poses outside the default. 3)The magnets are seperated in three sets in the control room, Upper, Middle, and Lower. Always choose Middle first. This set contains magnets that I call "global", or effect the entire figure, and they are needed for all deforming. The other two sets are in a sense optional. Use the middle only if that is all you need, as when you are doing a short skirt. Use Upper magnets when they are needed, these effect clothing above the abdomen. The same applies to the bottom magnets. When doing long gowns for instance, you may choose not to use the bottom set of magnets, for these are designed for fitting clothing to the legs and that is not desired for gowns. 4) These magnets were designed first to move the facets in V3, very close to where they are in SP3. Then they were fine tweaked for fitting the Ultra Catsuit for V3 snugly. These magnets are designed with the theory, and it is only theory, that the V3 Ultra Catsuit by DAZ 3D, made specificaly for this character by their team of experts, is the most accurate fitting item of clothing that covers 90 percent of the character. The reason I mention this is because this product was designed to make that particular artical of clothing fit very snug and natural. It is of course, tested on an array of clothing before I sent this out for testing. There is an inconsistancy,.....this is not always the best fit for the figure, but you will find it very very very close. What I mean by inconsistancy is, there will be sometimes places where the clothing looks like it needs to be tightened or pokethrus occuring in the clothing. I have done much study on how to deal with the inconsistancy, and have come to no solid conclusion on way to make it work perfect all the time, except for using the UltraCatsuit for V3 as my control and my acid test. I am going to publish easy to understand tutorials on magnets and teach you to do tweaks to the figure after you do the intitial deformation. I did not intend for you to try to adjust the magnets while there are so many loaded at one time. My computer suffers a serious lag when I have 90 or so magents loaded at one time,....how about you? I will be covering easier methods by product release. Thats all I can think of tonight marty

5)The starter cr2 included in this package is not the best cr2 to be using in skirts and dresses. Skirt tend to have the leg buttock bones removed so the skirt only responds to thigh movements. There is one simple way to make your skirts pose well,....translate all your thigh movement to the buttock. In other words, instead of the thigh being set at 15 degrees, change it to zero and set buttock to 15 degrees. This package could use some specialized dress cr2s and I would like to make them and add them to the package, but I still have been having some trouble doing so. If someone would like to lend me a hand in making these cr2s, I would appriciate it.
6)There are no JCM magnets in this package. What this means is, there is no means for the breast of the newley deformed clothing to adjust the breast of SP3 which changes shape during collor poses. This would be an inharrent problem with any product that deformed the shape of clothing. There are three ways to work with this problem at this time. a)Learn how to make your own jcms b)don't allow collor rotions in your poses c)load your figure second, not first,....this will turn off the jcms in the chest and they will not be a clothing fitting problem any longer.
I am going to attempt Joint Controled Magnets again, but I am making no promises as to my success.

Results from testers via email and IMs has been for the most part up in the 90% success range. I am very happy with the results. Although much more education on part of the user is needed I know.
There is an adverse effect where gowns got a strange poke out around the thighs. I am going to look into this problem.
IMPORTANT TIP: I have never published this tip, but I will. In my instrustions, I say to copy the .obj and rename it......well you can do this another way. You can import the .obj in the poser window, then export it as an .obj (with only the 4th option checked) as NewProject.obj. Then clear your old .objs and import the NewProject.obj.
You also can, if you like....heres the big tip now!!!....import a whole ensemble of clothing into poser and save them all as the NewProject.obj. Clear your old .objs off the screen and import NewProject.obj on your screen and work with it all at the same time.
Some of you are attempting to export .objs from clothing that has been loaded the normal way, via cr2. This makes sense by conventional teaching, it should work, but there is something strange with unimesh figures. Exported meshes from .objs of unimesh figures skew...they move a macro amount on the x, y, and z. It took me a year and a half to develope a way of getting around the problem of skewing clothing and this golden rule I came up with opened the door and made this method of deforming even possible. The gold rule is this.....never work from exported .objs for unimesh figures, only work with original .objs. I am always careful also to not have any unimesh .cr2s loaded while doing any exporting. I suspect that the presence of a unimesh.cr2 can skew any exported .obj. marty

I have adjusted mags 66 and 75. These were the cause of a weird poking out on the outside of the thighs. I have narrowed the zones so the magnets' influence is more surgical. Let me know if this solves the thigh side poke out problem. Number 14 was making two sharp of an adjustment near the crotch in fron of the thighs. I have soften the influence of this magent by making the zone wider and pulling it away from the figure. Let me know if this has any adverse effects. One thing that just came to mind, someone asked me what a .mtl files was. This a file that tells the client software what colors the obj is. This file is often generated while exporting a .obj and is used over a wide spectrum of client softwares. Ignore or delete this file, it is not needed for poser. For poser, the color assignments are set by the figure or prop file (cr2 or pp2) or the MAT pose assignment.
I'm glad this was here. I never look in the developers forum because, well, I'm not a developer and much of the "developer talk" goes way over my head. I've had poser for a year and I'm still very newbie with it. I find Poser very hard to learn and struggle with things that some of you would consider "basic".
I posted earlier in this thread and didn't expect to be part of this testing, but to my surprise Marty contacted me. It's given me the chance to try something new, and to learn some new things along the way.
I don't think threads such as this should be soley confined to the developers forum because some of us newer users who may not look in that forum can certainly benefit and learn from reading, and also sometimes from participating.
It is after all Poser related, so I don't think there is a more appropriate place for this thread :)
I'd rather see threads like this than some of the others that have nothing but arguing and fighting in them.

Ok, I've retried the three items giving trouble and they look better with the adjusted magnets.
I'll check of a couple of the others, so unless I run into any problems, I'll finish off enough items to do some renders.
One thought, you might like to add a section about Dynamic Cloth items (the process is the same except that the user needs to use a copy of the .PP2 to recover the Cloth Sim special groups and parameters).
Does anyone doing the testing have the RDNA MFG? I'm still getting that poke out hip action. Maybe someone who is testing and has this gown can also try?

hehe, sorry, you lost me. What does time stamping have to do with anything? I unzipped, and then dragged the runtime folder to the poser 5 runtime where I have the test kit installed. Shouldn't that have overwritten the earlier magnet files?

Some zip programs may not replace an newer file with an older one (there may be a setting you can change, it will depend on the program).
If your not seeing any change in the item, this may be the problem.
If you are seeing some difference, then you have the updated magnets, but the adjustments made weren't enough to fix the problem for the item your using (which I don't have).
at first I thought I screwed up the folder structure. I don't know what is going on.....I will be going off line and going back on line at a friends house later tonight. I will work on it then. Try this in the mean time, just select those three files and copy them and then poast them into the correct folder. I don't know what else to say now. I looked around and couldn't find a gown I really liked so I modeled my own shown above. It will be ready to have tests run on it shortly so I can see first hand what effect my magnets are having.

I have recieved responses that the magnet replacements above worked. You have to copy them and paste them manually into the correct folder though. After running the above test, I was a little unhappy with the loosness under the arms. I made one new magent that seem to tighten that area up, but after applying it to the Ultra Catsuit, it caused a bad poke thu. The reason it got so loose there is because my outit is actually fitting tighter than Ultra Catsuit in that area. This is very easly fixed with one more magnet under each arm pit. I really think I have all the tweaking out of this project and all it needs it some real good tutorials about using magents to go along with it. I didn't plan to offer a perfect deformation everytime, but I did plan to fall within a 90% range. No product can do a conversion automatically for you. Most techniques require much more work than this method does. MarkDC's packages promise you you can do a converion in 30 min when you get skilled at it. I say you can do conversions in much less time even if you are unskilled with my technique. The technique of having pre-made magnets for conforming then using custom mags to iron out details is clearly the easiest method of converting clothing that I have ever come across. As a professional modeler, this product cuts hours and hours off my time, plus giving me a more scientific deformation of the clothing which will conform more accurately. Again............ I tried to explain the reason for working with .objs only in the poser room in forum. This is much more accurate, by a landslide, than working with cr2s loaded. Unimesh .cr2s corrumpt the x,y, and z, orientation of the exported .obj. This is a common problem pain in the ass to modelers and I gaurantee that 90% are still pulling their hair out with a macro shifting of the figure after its conformed to a unimesh figure - all of sudden pokethrus will appear in the lower legs and feet, and out near the wrists - this is caused by a corrupted .obj as I explained. With out going into a lot of detail, my friends are slow to pick this method up from me, but after they do, it opens up more doors. With out this method of working strictly with raw .objs, I promise you this little magnet gimmic I have going on simply wouldn't work. Once again, in the case of DAZ unimesh figures, exporting a .obj from a item loaded via cr2 will cause a macro shift on the x, y, z, rotation. You can not see this with the naked eye. If you try to do it this way, you will get uneven poke thrus near the feet and hands after you conform your deformed clothing.
Wow! Thank you for the picture postings nruddock. Those are outstanding conversions if I am aloud to say so my self. I have been working on this concept for about three months now and even though I have put all this work into it, I still don't believe myself how good it works. Gives me a thrill to see those finished works by you. I am trying to work some skirt and dress cr2s into this package. If anyone can help me on some technical details, I would appriciate it. One thing about dress and skirts I would like to repeat. If your dress or skirt is all one hip group. Pose the buttock and not the thigh. The dress will react and pose with the buttock, but not the thigh. Many merchants for the longest time have been removing the buttock groups so the dress reacts to the thigh movement and I am working on making a set of cr2s to do the same, but I have been running into technical problems. There have been a series of sugestions on this package and I am working on them. This package along with many I have on the list are a series of products that will evolve as a whole. What I mean is, I am going to come up with improvements and eventually implement them to the entire line of products to make them consistant in their workings. Since I am only one person and not a team, this will take months and months so please be patient. marty
The first is a dynamic item, so once resized there was nothing else to do.
The "La Femme Corsair" needed some adjustments of the Forearm bending zones on the blouse, but everything else was good enough for the pose I used.
The Nun's cowl isn't perfect because it has no collar parts, so it doesn't track poses well.
I found the magnet thumbnails useful for locating magents where little tweaks were required.
I posted some links (in reply to your post in the Poser Technical Forum) that might help with the no buttock dress stuff.
There to a couple of tutorials that explain some basics.
The mesh-displacement problem, maybe in slightly different form, has been in Poser for a long time; back to P3 that I know of. Load one of the early figures and export two copies, with and without the "Export as morph target" checkbox ticked. There's a slight vertical difference, enough to mess up a morph created from the wrong mesh version. I don't know why it happens.

I have a V3 to SP3 clothing conversion kit completed for testing. This is very similar to my V3-A3 Conversion Kit already on the market. It uses poser magnets and you can do conversions very quickly. Let me know if you would like to test this. Testing will be finished by this friday. thank you marty
