Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
My son is running Poser 5 currently on an AMD 900 1 gig Ram and a MX440 128 meg video card...... Tis slow but it works.....
The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of
it alive.

Heeeee, You guys are way well off. I have got: 1. A celeron 2.4 GHz 2. 1 GB RAM 3. 40 GB HDD (Seagate 5400 RPM) 4. Use Poser6 SR1 (Photoshop 6) I must be lucky...coz My comp runs Poser quite well. Seriously no probs. As a matter of fact a classmate of mine, runs her Poser6 on a P1.4GHz...and both of us have no compplaints.
Up until 3-4 weeks ago the PC that I did all my 3d stuff on was my PIII 450 with 320MB of ram and about 30GB (totalled over its 3 HDDs) of HDD which ran poser 4. Poser 4 figs did what I wanted and are not very resource hungry.

Spoiled, spoiled people. 1 GHz AMD Athlon (Slot A) 324 MB RAM ~100 GB of disk on 5 drives (one an ancient 800 MB) Windows 2000 SP4 .NET Framework 2/Windows 98SE 17" Refurb Viewsonic 17GS 56K Dial-Up Poser 4 (works fine for my putzing around + I like Vicky sans memory hogging clothing anyway). Do I win a prize?

nghayward is winning at the moment, although I think (s)he is exaggerating about the 120MB drive. That may be a misprint. In any case, (s)he should get a prize for running P6 on ME. That version of Windows wasn't named after a debilitating medical condition for nothing. :) Here's mine, just to play the game: 1.2GHz AMD Athlon underclocked to 900MHz to make it reliable. :) 512MB memory, of which 16MB is shared with the onboard graphics; 120GB HD; Windows 2000. I mainly use Poser 4; Poser 5 has speed and resource problems on this machine.
You will not believe it, but all my work and products are created with this:
And the result is not slow compared to a XP with 2GHz CPU.
Which is the secret????: Windows 95!!!!!!!!! And the computer never crashes!

486SX 100Mhz 128Mb Ram 14 inch monitor Windows 98SE, & can handle a single Vicky2 with clothes & accessories in Poser4.
I don't actually use it that often, it's mainly used for accessing my email & playing doom1 as I can never get it to run under WinXP.

"Which is the secret????: Windows 95!!!!!!!!! And the computer never crashes!" I'd scoff at the notion that Win95 would be stable long enough to even load V3 but the local grocery chain uses it for their POS system. With the right applications and TLC, it can work :-)

GAZE UPON THE YE OLDE TIMER POWER RIG MORTALS, AND DISPAIR! Intel 386 SX/16 (REAL MEN DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' MATH COPROCESSORS!) 1 MB Ram (I know, I'm a wild man) 80 MB HDD (Let's you store tens of files) 256K Trident VGA (That's 640 x 480 with ALL 256 colors baby! WOOOO!) Dual floppy drives (that 5 1/4 AND 3 1/2, SUCKA!) 1/2 speed CD-ROM (complete with caddies!) Microsoft Windows 3.0 (the almost functional one) Dr Halo (Photoshop? What's that?) It makes a very nice plant stand or door stop.
Intel 8086 was a good processor, but Motorola 68000 was much better.
80286 was a shit and with only 80386 become 32 bit as 68000 was from the begining.
With 80486 was very little improvement, only speed. The big jump was with Pentium I with a little improvement with Pentium II. Todays processor are almost the same Pentium with more speed, with the exception of AMD64 that did another jump.
For running applications there are several factors, CPU, Cache, RAM, BUS, Disk, motherboard and OS that affect the speed and one important factor is the operational system that can neutralise the higher speed of the processor.

I still have my Commodore 64. Does that count? ;) I also kept my very first PC (Yep I get nostalgic) 33MHZ Processor 200MB Hard Drive 1MB Video Card 4 MB RAM (She was state of the art when purchased) The one I use is Pentium 4 2 GB with 1GB Ram 2 60GB Internal Hard Drives Recently (two days ago) added a 160 GB External Drive I guess that leaves me out. I want it back.
Heh. First computer was a VIC 20. After which varying Trash 80s, Commodore 64s, etc floated thru our household before my ex got the bright idea of getting a PC. It was a 286, had 2mb of RAM, 40 mb hard drive, and Goddess knows what the video display was. ;-)
I first had PP4 running on a 300 mhz AMD, 8mb Matrox video card, Windows 98 and it was fine, IIRC. After a house fire took away that computer I put it on my son's 533 mhz Celeron, 384 mb RAM (almost maxed out his motherboard), W2K.
Current:
Three-year-old Dell, extensively upgraded. :)
P4 2ghz Processor
712 MB RAM
2 80 gb internal HDs, 1 120 gb USB 2 external HD
128 mb NVidia 5200 video card
DVD drive and dual-layer DVD burner
No telling what we'll stick on it next. Probably more RAM, which will max out my motherboard. The floppy long got clogged up with dust and I'm looking to replace it with a memory card reader.
Been a darned good running little pc, too.
Currently running P6 with few problems, mostly figuring out how far to push the program and my pc's limits with it. ;-)

Whenever I feel sorry for myself about my lame machine someone tops me by saying they are running something even worse. Please sign in with: 1. The specs of your platform = CPU speed/RAM/HD. 2. Poser version used. 3. How you accomodate Poser to your lame machine. -------------------------------- I guess I should not complain: 1. Celeron 2.49Ghz/1GbRAM/70GbHD. 2. Poser 4 alot and Poser 6 just for the fancy stuff. 3.
