I am a newbie at photography...I have taken 4000 pictures, yet, I am just starting to get some decent shots with my camera! I am interested in scenic photos such as waterfalls and the type! I have seen some of your pictures in the gallery and they are outstanding, and I would love to take pictures like that! :) What I am asking for are just general tips about photographing scenic photos...what works or doesn't work for you...when to take photos, etc... I look forward to reading your posts! GOD BLESS Jonathan

Hey Jonathan! Welcome to the forum! Since you stated that you are new to photography, the first thing is to get to know your camera! With 4000 shots...sounds like you're well on your way! Most digicams has MODES for specific kinds of shooting! You should experiment with these and see how each affect your shots! One of this MODES is geared more towards landscape, so you may want to give this one a try! Another thing is SHARE you photos...here and in the gallery! This will give a good idea of what you doing and you can aks for feedback on your images (if you want)! Take care! Joe L8RDAZE Photo Forum Coordinator

Hey Jonathan welcome.... Time of day is important for scenic shots. If the sun is casting too many shadows it can make leaves and water look pretty bad. Depending on your angles.Early mornings and dusk shots bring out some nice results.Beware of "Salad" shots.Ones with just too much foilage. While looking nice to the eye in person, they end up being pretty boring. If you are going for a waterfall, try different speeds. One may stop the water and one will make i flow.Get in close and focus on some rocks with some spray happening.Lucky with digital we can take many many shots. Pay attention to the shooting data and try to remeber what worked.

Johnathon..Welcome to forum.
I don't what sort of camera you are using, DSLR or prosumer? Anyway, for me, don't use the camera in full AUTO mode. I have always found it looks good through the camera and then you download and it's crap. As L8 says 'try the scenic' mode on the camera or use program mode.
For me, I usually go out early morning or late afternoon for the best results.
If your not sure about a shot, try posting in the forum before uploading to the gallery. You can get some real comments here.
Try these galleries for some ideas, aangus, LostPatrol, sossy and mine. Sorry chaps bit of a Scottish bias going on there!!!!!

Hi Jonathan! Welcome to the forum indeed!! I do don't landscapes at all since I suck at it but, as a general advice, I would suggest u learn to use ur cam in manual mode! Learn about exposure!! The day I swapped to manual, I made huge progress in my photography! Best thing is to try different settings and then U'll get an eye for it! ;) Also, use ur histogram if u've got one! Here's a link u might find interesting! Hope this help a 'lil!
