Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
Not had this with Poser 6 but I did have some very strange problems with my Nortons anti virus, system clocks going haywire, lock ups etc. Moved my anti virus to AVG and it's been ok since. Might be an idea to look at Nortons instead of Poser! thefixer, poser coord.
Injustice will be avenged.

When my cordless mouse started acting up I changed the batteries. Worked a treat after that. Not had the problems you mentioned with P6, either.
Coppula eam se non posit acceptera jocularum.
I've only had these problems when another OpenGL using app was open at the same time (in my case 3DS Max).

No never had this problem, running a 1.8gig semperon onboard vid, no slow downs no problems, but I would say this is norton and not poser, norton has really gone downhill with compatibility the last few years.

Ah, had EXACTLY this problem with P6 - and with some versions of P3DO too.
If you have a Logitech mouse driver, get the latest version, and then on the Motion pane UNcheck the new option "Disable acceleration in games." Apparently this feature - to add acceleration to games - was added several driver versions ago and caused slow downs in 3D apps using OpenGL. It wasn't until the latest version of the driver that they provide an option to revert to the older (pre '03) functionality.
Once I'd upgraded and unchecked, everything was fine in all applications - except my mouse was a little faster everywhere - so I had to reduce it from flat out where it had been forever to about 66%!
I use a logitech cordless mouse and cordless keyboard. After my initial experience, I never installed the Logitech software again for either of them. Nothing but a pain. Both work perfectly well without it. Unless you want the dorky features, like shopping from the kb buttons. That's something I've happily lived without for 4 years now. mac
PXP: Control Panel > Mouse > Motion pane/tab under Cursor Speed and Acceleration. Maclean: I'd agree with you, but as I have their trackball (same drivers) to reduce wrist ache, I do need a few of their parameters. But I agree their installers are pretty pathetic - unloading unwanted "give-aways" is bad enough, but being expected to hand edit the .ini files after install for the trackball is beyond the pale!
PXP...I agree with others about Norton...I have Norton Internet Security, and I'll never buy a product from them again...after this one expires (maybe even before), I'm gonna find something better...which shouldn't be hard I'm sure... something to also check if your system starts lagging, is go to your Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and under the Processes tab, see if CCAPP.exe (which is some component of Norton) is maxing out your CPU usage...this happens to me daily and I have to reboot to correct it...like I said, Norton's going bye-bye asap!
Say what you mean and mean what you say.
Worst logitech story.. I bought an ifel mouse.. one with vibration effects. They wrote a xp driver, but did NOT include the ifeel ability! Also, thier keyboard drivers do not allow you to turn off their "f lock" keys for extended functions. I'll never buy another logitech device. And another thumbs down here to Norton.. unless of course you need a system slowdown.
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
Norton used to be fine, but that was b4 NAV 2003, at least for me, with Poser 6 I've only had over heating probs that require to cool down the 'puter first b4 trying to use it again, but that's only when I'm using a bunch of figures in the same scene, in most cases the machine suddenly reboot without warning but that's 'cuz I'm using a 2100+ with a standard heatsink . . .
Yeah, I'v got a Logitech cordless mouse (Mx Lazer) Make sure that your base unit is within range of the mouse, I was having problem's and found that a move of just 1/2" made all the difference. Also I'd NEVER touch anything NORTONS again!!Once bitten and all that!!! it's been AVG for me for the past 2 years...Sweet as' !!
I've got a logitec cordless mouse too, but never installed the original drivers. I let windowsXP handle the installation, it recognized the mouse without installing any logitec drivers. I've been running P6 from the beginning it was released, installed sr1 as soon as it was available and I haven't had any problems at all. Uninstall those drivers for sure to see what effect it will have on your system.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

I've had problems in the past with the Norton Internet Security suit slowing everything down; it is so dialed up, it practically stops any network traffic and drags the computer to it's knees. P6 occasionally will check to see if any other computers are using it's serial number, so it could be hitting the firewall and cause it to slow way down.

Over the last eight weeks I have been running Poser 6 SR1 on two high end PC's. Both machines have developed very strange behaviors and have developed similar problems. The mouse becomes difficult to use and starts to drag, it is painful trying to move Poser parameter dials and becomes so slow that the software stops working - these PC's have 3.4MHz processors. Both machines eventually freeze and wont do anything and cannot be used for at least twentyfour hours after switching off which is also strange.
Both machines been checked with the latest Norton AntiVirus for virus's, worms etc and they have both been scanned for mallicious software and spyware and are clean. The operating systems have been reinstalled but the problem returns. Because Poser six makes use of Graphic card acceleration and works differently from Poser 5 I am asking if anyone else is experiencing similar problems or has had anything like this and can offer advice and help. I am not saying that I am convinced that Poser 6 is directly responsible for this but it is the only software that I use where the problem starts to occur, it does not happen with any other software that I am using.
My hard drives have been checked and are working fine. The computer hardware appears to be in good working order.
