bloody hell i have never had any problems with poser 4 and patch on 7 diff computers, poser 6 that piece of bug ridden junk. 7 diff computers used it on from lowest to highest spec, includes 2 laptops and same problems. it's memory hadle is rubbish and this will give you a laugh 1 computer a freind of a freind, more money that brains as he buys latest hardware for gaming. now this was the fastest pc money can buy and we are talking the top of the range max everything, after 5 mins of a render the message ya page to small so using hard drive. 15 mins later we came back to check on render it had locked up and had locked his windows up, he screamed holy murder and yanked plug out. how many other people have had problems as i no some people who have dumped poser 6 as it must have been programed by a group of 2 year old homer simpsons.

Umm yes there have been memory problems with P6 but they were sorted to a large extent by SR1 so I'm gonna ask "Have you installed SR1?" If not, then go and get it and most [not all] of your memory problems will go away! ;-)) thefixer, poser coord.

If it is a typical gaming system you're working on I'm not surprised. Typical gaming systems pack a whopping DirectX graphics card (with lousy OpenGL support), a fast CPU, an overpowering sound system, with a relatively small hard drive and a tiny amount of RAM (512 MB or so). For Poser you're better off with a good OpenGL graphics card, a larger hard drive, and at least 1 GB of RAM. A fast CPU certainly helps. AMDs tend to perform better with Poser than Intels. I run P6 SR1 on an Athlon64/4 GB RAM/ 430 GB disk space. And it could render 8 V3s, all with different hires textures and different hires hair, without locking up.

Then I'm sorry I don't know what else to suggest, except to contact CL about it and maybe they can help! They might have more info about compatibility issues with graphic cards or drivers or other software. I have seen posts about Nortons causing issues too which it did on mine, I dumped that and put on AVG7 and no problems since! [nearly forgot about that one]. thefixer, poser coord.

How large is your scene? How many models, props, etc? What does your Mat Room setup look like for all of the items in the scene? Also, what are your render settings pushed to? If you are heavy on models, and you render at the top end, your computer will probably lock if it has the name Cray on the side. ;-) Look at your render settings. If you are using the Manual Settings, uncheck texture filtering. This causes a lot of lag, and only tries to prevent large areas from getting that boxed look. Increase your bucket size to whatever the system can handle. (I suggest closing all open apps besides Poser, then making the bucket just less than what you need for running the OS. On Win2k, if you have 1GB RAM, I would suggest a bucket of 640. This is what I am running now, and it has worked for me.) If nothing else, render it on the auto settings, all the way down to the left. See if it renders okay. If it does, you may want to use trial and error to see at what point you are getting a failure. P6SR1 is a good product. Don't sweat. There are people here to help! ;-)

thefixer...AccCKK Norton?! makes the sign of the cross and tosses garlic in its direction I HATE NIS, and as soon as I can afford another suite, it's off my machine forever!!! darned thing's CCAPP.exe maxxes out my CPU at least once a day, if not 3 times...definitely gets in the way of Poser working sometimes grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Say what you mean and mean what you say.

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 30 August 2005 at 1:29 PM

LOL blonderella, I had loads of problems with it, usually after a live update! It advanced my system clock one time by 99 years and then told me that my subscription was out of date, "priceless"! thefixer, poser coord.

I have p6. For me its works far better than p5. Only negative is it somtimes slow to open new librarys in texture roum. Yes I have problems with large scenes but I havit in p5 to. I thugt I have bigger problems but now I use more Vic, Mike, A3 etc and before most Dork and Posette. This is truly the sourse of the problems.

blonderella, do what I have, and obviously thefixer as well. Head to www.grisoft.com and get AVG. They have a free edition, and it is the best anti-virus I personally have ever used.

agape ( ) posted Tue, 30 August 2005 at 2:33 PM

I am one of those lucky ones that has had no problems. I have an Intel 2.8, 160g Hd (hope to put another one in soon), a lowend 128 nVidia graphics card and 1.5 g ram. I run Norton Prof (04 Edition). I have had to learn my render settings but I am an avid forum reader so I learn from all of your questions and answers. I absolutely adore P6 and wouldn't go back to P4 or 5 for nothin'! Buzzzloz, I am so sorry you are having so much trouble. P6 is really a fabulous tool and I am not so sure anymore that I even want to graduate up to Maya. That was my plan but I have fallen so much in love with P6 that I may not ever switch!!!! Thanks CL!!!

Hey destro, yes I have installed AVG7 from Grisoft and I've had no problems since, wasn't free though but the license is for 2 or 3 years rather than 1 with Nortons!

Why didn't you just get the free version? It is free to non-commercial users. Ah well, guess it's spilled milk now anyway, but for anyone else, grab the free version.

tajshan ( ) posted Tue, 30 August 2005 at 3:46 PM

What the hell?!? I'm sorry I'm late on this but are some of you saying that Poser 6 and Norton clash??? Why in the heck would Poser interfere with Norton, an antivirus software or vice versa?

drifterlee ( ) posted Tue, 30 August 2005 at 4:09 PM

I have Poser 6 plus all the patches running on a 3.4 gig Pentium with a 128 Radeon PCI express. Windows XP Home. I have 2 gigs of PC3200 (400) RAM and Poser has it's own hard drive at 250 gigs. I turn off everything in the sys tray, and I still get "Out of Memory" errors when I try to render in production. Some hair looks nasty if texture filtering is not turned on. Now, out of memory errors would be tolerable if, when I get them, Poser 6 would not destroy the PZ3 file. It just wipes it blank!! I have heard other people have had this problem as well. Also, I have found Norton products to cause problems with other programs way back in the DOS days. I use the free AVG and it catches all the viruses. The new owners of Curious Labs need to release a memory fix.

Jimdoria ( ) posted Tue, 30 August 2005 at 4:27 PM

Just a note: The free AVG is hard to find from the main Grisoft website. They have a special site set up just for it now: http://free.grisoft.com

Think my computer is starting to sound positively low end here :) I've had no problems with Poser 6 although admittedly it is a tad slow on the larger renders, especially if I have a lot of figures with large textures. But with SR1 I have not had any problems with it crashing or running out of memory. I'm also running NIS2005Pro and haven't had any issues with it causing conflicts. Does AVR have a Firewall? I'm only running a 1.8GHz P4 with 756MB Ram. I have Poser on a 120GB seperate HD though (although it's not alone on there but it's not the main drive).

Tiari ( ) posted Tue, 30 August 2005 at 10:24 PM

No problems with P6 from the word go, and still haven't dl/ed the SR1. Many of the problems i see are from conflicting program errors, or running P6 on a machine that seems awesome but wasn't intended for computer graphics of any kind, especially the 3D type. Just make sure P6 is the prodominant program running first off. It happens, where i got a thousand programs running while using P6, though i dont have problems, i did with P4, would lock up if i so much breathed on my old comp just to check the time LOL.

PerfectN ( ) posted Wed, 31 August 2005 at 11:16 AM

I agree, I think Poser 6 is a train wreck of a release. I have a quad processor, 16 gigs of Ram, a 650 mg Wildcat graphics card and 525 gig hard drive - so I KNOW its not my system. My libraries take too long to open, and I keep getting insufficent memory prompts. I have installed the update and I still have problems. Ill still to Poser 5 and Vue. Im still pissed that I wated my money on P6.
