Often when a new figure come out the artist want to have some content released at the same time otherwise there will be very low sales because users do not want another figure without any clothes to wear. naked female figures in a temple with a sword can only go so far. OTOH naked male figures in a temple with a sword will go nowhere at all.
You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech
OTOH naked male figures in a temple with a sword will go nowhere at all. and yall know why, right? Cuz they dun friggin ask fer directions. :oP

Neftis's Unity was released at polymage.com. It is a replacement head for V3. Uzilite is working on a female figure. Seraphira has been sick so there haven't been too many updates on Kaimira. Sixus1 released Project Human female for free at poserforums.com. Spanki is working on a female figure as well. I don't know how completed it is.

stallion & jvrenderer - mike found a temple by following vickyZollster that is a really cool image :) Kind of morbid, but still cool. "naked female figures in a temple with a sword can only go so far. OTOH naked male figures in a temple with a sword will go nowhere at all." I have thought this in the past too. But I've done female nudes that were barely viewed in the galleries. I think its just a fluke that anything in the gallery is actually viewed and commented on.

"...there was a person working on this model..." "Spanki is working on a female figure as well. I don't know how completed it is." Spanki is Keith Young, whose signature you see in the lower right of the image :) I do wonder how he's doing with her, it certainly looks like she's quite well done as it is. "I would love to see better rigging and matrices for better posing and more REAL looking figures that are anatomically correct from the start. Hate having ken and barbie to work with! Can't imagine why someone hasn't picked up the ball and ran since there are many artists that want something better." You are right in wanting this. There really is no excuse for the lack of innovation from the various third party figure creators (with the possible exception of Anton's Apollo Max, which I don't have). Poser's rigging system is totally adequate as long as a character is modeled correctly and in the correct pose to be rigged. A couple of hints for the curious: (1) Anything that is composed of fat should NOT be modeled as a part of the base figure. Use morph targets to add these in order to allow the rig to do its job. An exception to this would be if your character is obese. (2) Modeling the legs straight down from the hip, with NO SPACE between them is one of the STUPIDEST mistakes made by MANY professional figure modelers. There should be a 15-30 degree angle between the legs.

R Hatch - I'm glad you understand my frustration. It's hard learning something new, but unless there are some major changes coming soon for Poser models, I may have to try something else like 3D Max, but even that has some drawbacks for content. You would think there would be at least 3 new female and male figures each year given the amount of money that can be made from a good figure design and community support. It's hard for me to believe we are still using the very limited S3 and V3 figures to this date! I want to push realism, my system is more than capable with 2GB of Corsair XMS PRO, 1 terabyte of storage, etc. to run off complex renders. That's why it's hard to understand the lack of innovation. One would think that as hardware gets increasingly more advcanced you would see the software step up for the programs and MODELS. Take ANY current female Poser figure as an example. You have to make some hacks to them for a non generic ken and barbie. Then it doesn't really make much difference because of the way they were designed to begin with. Doesn't have to be erotic, just take nudes as another example. You can have any of the current female figures look right when sitting casually in the nude. The pubic area and thighs are not even close to being real looking. Just look at a basic female nude and then at your figure, doesn't even come close for detail in those areas. Do you think there is any hope in the near future for Poser figures or would you consider looking elsewhere for better advancment and if so what (i.e. 3D Max)?

" (2) Modeling the legs straight down from the hip, with NO SPACE between them is one of the STUPIDEST mistakes made by MANY professional figure modelers. There should be a 15-30 degree angle between the legs. " I wouldn't agree with that. The GIRL is modeled with her legs out and bent forward, the results of this is conforming pants are harder to fit than any other figure I've tried, skirts are even worse. Might be O.K. if the figure is always nude. ;-) As to "new female figures", Gee, I can think of one that is already out and bends pretty nicely, too... But maybe she doesn't cost enough to get any respect.
The pubic area and thighs are not even close to being real looking. Just look at a basic female nude and then at your figure, doesn't even come close for detail in those areas. That's not "Poser's fault" ... the detail is in the model, not in the application that the model is used for. If you get a more expensive program (such as Max or Lightwave), your Poser models won't look any different and you'll have to do the rigging yourself.
You would think there would be at least 3 new female and male figures each year given the amount of money that can be made from a good figure design and community support. if there were 3 new female and male figures each year there wouldnt be any community support. The "flavor of the week" would get some fetish gear and a couple of hair props and then it would be time to move to the next "big thing".

Tyger has a good point. In practice, continuity of figures is extremely useful. I have several new figures now with the new Poser 6 and the Miki model. But they're hard to use, because I don't have the variety of skin tones and clothing that my V3 figure has. I also think that the available morphs provide quite a variety of possibilities with the figure faces-- you just have to work with them a bit, and sometimes in counter-intuitive ways. For instance, if you use a negative value on a high-cheekbones morph, you can take a supermodel type and make her seem more ordinary-looking. The Poser 6 models seem to have made a step forward in facial variety; I haven't experimented with them long, but I've come up with some nice stuff. I especially like the fact that you can dial up the nose to be quite large, and you can use the face room to change the shape of the entire head.
I agree with Tyger. And on the same note, if a female figure did come along that was an evolutionary step forward, there's no guarentee she would receive attention from the merchants. V3 has so many products that the market is saturated. So much so that it almost puts DAZ in a tight position of upsetting their content providers if they create a new model uncompatible with the current content. I'd definitely love to see some of the energy that's been put into V3 be transfered to another figure such as ApolloMax or the Project Human female...
"The GIRL is modeled with her legs out and bent forward" The bent forward bit is what causes most of the problems here. I initially thought that out + forward was a good idea, then I did this silly thing called internal alpha-testing (I created a mesh with just enough form/detail to get an idea of general appearance, then moved the legs into position, and dropped it into Poser and rigged it). The forward-ness isn't necessary at all, and causes problems in fact, as you've seen. The reason is, as anyone can plainly see, is that there isn't another body part anywhere close to either the front or back of the legs to interfere with bending. Additionally, you can rig an existing Poser figure's leg correctly, with the drawback that the other leg will get distorted. Therefor, some clearance is needed on either side of the legs in order for distortion to be kept to a minimum. The outside is no problem, obviously, so we have plenty of space to swing outward, although we still want to keep this to a minimum. 30 degrees or more, and you get new problems that you don't want. When I set up my current figure, I rotated the buttocks 5 degrees out, and the thighs 10 degrees. A bit of re-rigging was needed, since this is based on V2RR, but now the bending is almost perfect. I also took the mesh into MarbleCLAY to smooth out the buttocks, and then recreated the buttocks as a morph, which helps immensely. I used MarbleCLAY because it has a smoothing method which keeps seams between body parts from getting separated. I have since re-rigged a few clothing items, which conform quite well. I may begin to create things more seriously (as in: for release to the public) once I see that eF has decided to fix the things in Poser that really need fixing: LIGHTS + UNDO + ability to use ANY Renderman implementation, not just Firefly. I want real GI rendering from Poser, and I want it in Poser 7. I do not want them to try and add it to Firefly, however. Hell, I wouldn't even mind if they released a higher-priced Poser 7 Professional Edition, with Air bundled instead of (or in addition to) Firefly.
Well, most of the thigh bending problem is forward, not sideways. A realistic maximum side bend is about 45 degrees, inward maybe half of that. But forward bend can be about 160 degrees or so, plus maybe 30 degrees back- a range of over 180 degrees, or about 3 times the side-side range. So I don't see side-side thigh bending as a problem, and I also don't see the splayed out legs as really much of an advantage on giving you a bigger fall-off zone, your fall-off shouldn't go past the center line anyway. I did Glamorous Jessi's joints to work in conjunction with her JCM, I get the impression the V3's JCM was added afterward, as a band-aid.
The forward bending problems are the result of the matspheres not having enough space to do their job. In other words, the forward bending is helped by the outwardness of the legs. No need for JCM with this method, either. You're correct, the falloff shouldn't go past the center line, which is why giving it more room helps.

Thanks for the comments. As for the status of the gal I'm working on... sometimes I get side-tracked, sometimes I just get lazy and mostly I'm using the project as a learning tool, so I keep going back and re-doing things as I learn and/or develop new ideas. All of which amounts to no particular schedule being followed. Anyway, I included a link to the thread where that image was posted. - KeithCinema4D Plugins (Home of Riptide, Riptide Pro, Undertow, Morph Mill, KyamaSlide and I/Ogre plugins) Poser products Freelance Modelling, Poser Rigging, UV-mapping work for hire.
So you did wake up! I'm coming over to your house with a cattle prod. Just kidding. IMO she's the best looking figure for Poser that I've ever seen. But...here's an idea. Finish her and start another figure with all that you've learned and make the next one your new learning tool and make it even better. Because, this lady is just going to go on and on until you have to put wrinkles and gray pubic hair on her!

Just wondering why there have been no updates on some new female Poser figures that were suppossed to be in the works? Some of the new female figures I'm referring to are ones being done: Kaimira, Neftis and I think one or two others. Thanks for any info on them.
