Thats a nice shot Andreas. If I were to want to change it I would give it a bit more impact and remove the white house from it but another great shot. If you don't want it send it to me :D

Wow...a better response than I could have hoped. Thanks for all your feedback, and for posting your own terrific images. I think all of them would look right at home in your galleries. I thought about this thread yesterday and prepped and image for it...then decided I DID like it as a gallery image and moved on to another...that I felt the SAME way about, and finally decided to post the radio image. LOL! 1. Sheila, of the two, I like the color version better. It is a neat image, but the centering of the object bothers me a little. I think if you shot it more to the right of the frame, it would have worked better compositionally. But what do I know, I wasn't there! The one in your gallery definitly deserves to be there. ;] 2. That's a neat mask Doug and like the perspective. I do agree though that it lacks a little visual pop. Maybe play with the contrast/levels a bit or alter the background as per Richard's suggestion. 3. Jeff, those be some galactic grits. Hmmm, reminds me of a Pink Floyd song about a breakfast... ;] I like it! 4. Richard, those are both excellent both creatively and technically. How could you even ask??? :] 5. Andreas, that is a gorgeous landscape. The white whatever in the back is a tiny bit distracting, but not a big deal. I do think it could use a touch of postwork to give it a little more zip, but I'm not sure how. It is not quite as dramatic as some of your landscapes, but who says they all have to be? Promise me you'll take Grover there when he arrives. ;'] Gallery worthy is a subjective term true. I've raised my personal bar over the years so for me it means an image that creative, technically correct, and interests the viewer enough so that they want to look at it. But then that's me and I'm also perfectly happy looking at others' galleries that have more personal work that is still quite interesting. I am just intrigued by how people express themselves, and ReRo is a great place to explore that. Thanks again, enough of my Stridsberging (blah, blah, blah). ;^P

Thank you so much Kort!! That's exactly why I didn't know about....I couldn't decide what to look at. I think the fungus is worth a second try. I'll go out today and see if I can get a better shot. I may have to cheat a little and do a tight crop since my cam has a hard time with extreme close ups sometimes. And I hated to use the flash, but it was overcast and I didn't have the tripod. Okay...now I'm inspired to go try again! I'll let you know if it turns out better. :) Thanks again!! And it's good to be back. :)

Glad you joined us Dave! I really like it (I'm partial to all your shots of Hawaii) but do agree that the blown highlights are an issue, and that it would be nice if the bridge had a clearer reflection. I love the yellow leaves in the water though. The scene itself is wonderful. My suggestion would be to revisit this spot under more optimal condition and try again. Or try some creative postwork on it. Either way, I'd get rid of those distracting objects under the bridge, though the little white structure is nice. Aloha!

Thanks Bra! You know when you work on an image so long after awhile you begin to hate it, this one was a molecule from the delete button...Great suggestions, probably a re-shoot is in order as my creative PW sucks rocks! A great to you Bra! Aloha!
YAY FOR SHEILA!!! MY FAVORITE ASSISTANT!!! Awwwwwwwwwww....you go girl! You did a really great job on mine...infact...Im gonna mail you all my shots from now on......muahahaha!!!

Dave...i'm a bit of a nut. keep that in mind. yeah, you got some blown out highlights. so what! i say accentuate them!!! make the most of them! get wild and crazy and push it even more!!!
i used Bleach Bypass Simulator on this one (a free filter) and pushed the exposure. i know it's completely a whacko-thing to do, but i'm like that. you could always colorize this and bump up the saturation too if you wanna get really crazy!!!
psssst...it's ok if you don't like what i did. won't bother me. i like weird stuff and when i saw your image, that's the first thing i thought of...push the LIMITS!!! :)

Way to think outside the box! Now why didn't I use my head and think of something like this? Exploit it for what it's worth...I like this very much, thanks for you input, always a pleaure...Yeeeeeeha! Aloha!

Andreas...yep...i LOVE it! the extra saturation boost you gave the water is nice, nice, NICE!!!! definitely a keeper...even without the postwork! :) Dave...phew...so glad i didn't scare ya away after you saw what i did to your image! LOL! glad you like my take on your image! :) and ya know...if the blown out part of your sky bothers you, why not just layer in piece of sky from another one of your pictures? might work. :) Aloha to you too! :)

in the meantime, here's the way i would do it. this is a b/w image if i ever saw one!!!!
channel mixer:
Red: 73; Blue 33; Green 33
again...i'm pushing it and i'm sure it's not technically correct, but when i have the reds down more, it just doesn't have that OMG feeling to it. sorry. don't listen to a thing i say. i just know when i bumped up the reds my eyes went WILD with delight! ok...only have a few minutes to play with the color version before i go to work. if i don't have time i'll post if after work.
i think i saw Kingpin but i can't remember. i'll have to read a synopsis on the story to refresh my memory. later....:) edit: i tried increasing the brightness of the shadows, but i didn't think it made the image look any better. i do like it dark. try pushing the contrast a bit on the color version and see whatcha think. i'm not sure. i like extra bit of contrast when i was playing, but my i'm not sure how it affected the details overall. oh, BTW...kemal eyes lit up when he saw this image of yours! he really likes it! :) later gators. hi ho hi ho...time to sling some seafood! :(

Thats Kingpin.....YOU GOTTA SEE IT!!!! Thank you Sheila for taking the time to play with it. I tried alot of different varieties on this one, including B&W but it never "sat" with me. For some reason this colored version makes me think of Richards landscape-shots....you know the ones on which he just wont tell me his secrets *wink wink Richard*, LOL. But you say its not too dark and then im satisfied enough i guess. #:O) Have fun at work you poor thing!!!!!How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when

Shiela _ I can't show you more of the 2nd shot I posted that is all there is - it's an egg cup on a cd. Don't know if you have seen them they are like a spiral spring of shiny metal. I had the idea but I couldn't get the angles rigt for all the curves and rainbows to be formed how I wanted them to be, Maybe I will reshoot it one day. What it has done Andreas is take out all the contrast and given a bit of a colour cast too. When a polariser is used on the lens set to a wide view you also end up with uneven lighting especially in the sky. Only use a polariser when you need to get rid of reflection, or are using the zoom.

My god!You guys!!!!Talk about a great thread! And I missed it!!!...Sigh.... :^( Now I feel like you were all doing double-dutch and dropped the rope just as I jumped in!LOL! Okay.Forget my pic...I'll just give my two cents... All the pics I've seen here, aren't perfect...if they were, let's face it,they'd be in our galleries,no questions asked...That said,it's wonderful to get feedback like this. And I think it's so great that we have a venue like the forum where we can share our work, our knowledge, and even our frailties with each other... So a brief note of thanks to our mods and RR,and of course,Kort, who let's face it,keeps this place interesting on many a 'dead' day... I could go on...and tell you all what I think of your pics...But I would end up with the biggest 'ramble' here of all... ...and i think I've already done enough 'Stridsberging' for now... ;^P LOL. Have a great weekend everyone!!!!! Marlene :^)

LOL! #:oD AWWWW!!! What a handsome boy. I love that dog-shot!!! So different from the ones you usually see. This ones pro-looking, like hes doing this for a living or something. I think its brilliant, i really do. Theres only one thing i would have seen differently and thats that blue ribbon. It would have been nice to have it out of the way. But what a gorgeous shot...WOW-factor 9 for this dog-lover!!!! #:O)

Marlene, that's a beautiful capture, girl!!! Here's what i would do with this image. i'd brighten the shadows and see if i could bring in some more light/detail to his nose. then i would layer that image with this one so you don't brighten ALL the shadows. then after that i'd do the same thing except i'd work on my highlights and see if i could decrease the brightness of the highlights a bit. i would probably also crop some on the left...at the point where the dog's backside is dropping down. anyway there's my 2 cents. i love the picture, marlene!!! :) Andreas...i haven't seen that movie. i'll have to check that one out! :) thanks! :) Richard...ah...i see the CD now! an egg cup???? i just did a search under google images and saw it. never seen 'em before. must be somethin' fancy. we just eat our eggs on plates/bowls here. oh...i just did a regular search and seems i'm not alone. this site says most Americans don't know what they are. *phew*...i feel better now! thanks for telling me. :)This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience.
