... an image you are considering putting in your gallery but are not sure about. That way we can all get feedback about if it is gallery worthy or what we could do to make it so. Here's one of the old radios I shoot from time to time. I kinda like how the soft colors and light work in this one. What do you honestly think? Or should I just stick with ice cubes? ;P

Mmmmmh! I disagree with Cyn about the "better than cubes" part here but I do agree that this is definitely gallery worthy indeed! Yep! :)

well, i think "gallery worthy" is a pretty subjective phrase. i have no idea if even a tiny bit of what i post is what ya'all would consider "gallery worthy." ya know what i'm saying? anyway, here's one i was working on just a bit ago and just finished. i really like it, but i already posted one image of it today...just a different perspective, different angle, and without the polarizer. i dunno if i'll post this one or not. i would imagine most people would consider this image boring, especially since i already posted one similar image of it already. i might upload it and not enable comments though. i took several others that i really like and plan to process. i guess it just appeals to my love of sci-fi. anyway, Kort...the image looks excellent to me, and i agree with Cindy...looks very much like a 3D render. i think it's beautiful and i don't have any suggestions for you to improve it. i like it the way it is. i say if YOU like this image and would like it in your gallery, then by all means, you should put it there!!! it's just really hard for me to give you feedback on "is it gallery worthy?". each person has different ideas and standards when it comes to posting an image in his/her gallery. i certainly think others would find this interesting and it's a well taken photograph, so why not??? :)

I was going to post this earlier this week, but hesitated. My thought was the background was too much the same as the mask face. or maybe the crop was off. Kort....that is so clear and the light set up is brilliant. Shiela...yours is actually quite creative. new plants growing H5's.LOL How did the colour one look. As surreal as it is I was thinking colour would be better.

doug, thanks for your feedback! i appreciate it! here's the image in color without any postwork. i like the color version, but that b/w spot on the right looks really distracting to me. i dunno what the hell that is...a shadow? i have a lot of other versions of this image that i wanna work on. too sleepy right now though. i like your image, doug, and don't think the background and face mask are too much alike. crop looks fine, but wonder if it would look better without her ear & chin cut off. have you tried brightening this just a bit or converting to b/w? maybe some selective color would look nice here too! :) lots of stuff to try. then again, i do like it like this too. i get that way about my images a lot...not sure...try all sorts of stuff and then i'm never sure. LOL! :) Jeff, interesting sci-fi concept! looks like there's a black hole in your plate! careful now...it's gonna suck up your breakfast!!!! *slurp*! sorry...couldn't help myself! not sure i can offer you any advice on this one. are you merging two different photographs here?

Grits is a hot cereal similar to cream of wheat but grits are made out of ground corn. They are very good w/Country Crock margarine, salt & pepper, w/eggs. :-)

Kort - I like that one, would have reservations about the background. Suggestion select and gradient fill with another colour. Shiela - Now thats just weird and whacky - post it - ah now I have seen the colour I prefer it in colour :) Doug - Reservations about background - maybe select and gradient fill? Jeff - I like it only reservation would be the cutlery and flare in the middle, but it is not that troublesome , post it ! Where do I start - my ungallery is huge !!! So I have a couple for you to tear to pieces - do your worst !

Wow...a better response than I could have hoped. Thanks for all your feedback, and for posting your own terrific images. I think all of them would look right at home in your galleries. I thought about this thread yesterday and prepped and image for it...then decided I DID like it as a gallery image and moved on to another...that I felt the SAME way about, and finally decided to post the radio image. LOL! 1. Sheila, of the two, I like the color version better. It is a neat image, but the centering of the object bothers me a little. I think if you shot it more to the right of the frame, it would have worked better compositionally. But what do I know, I wasn't there! The one in your gallery definitly deserves to be there. ;] 2. That's a neat mask Doug and like the perspective. I do agree though that it lacks a little visual pop. Maybe play with the contrast/levels a bit or alter the background as per Richard's suggestion. 3. Jeff, those be some galactic grits. Hmmm, reminds me of a Pink Floyd song about a breakfast... ;] I like it! 4. Richard, those are both excellent both creatively and technically. How could you even ask??? :] 5. Andreas, that is a gorgeous landscape. The white whatever in the back is a tiny bit distracting, but not a big deal. I do think it could use a touch of postwork to give it a little more zip, but I'm not sure how. It is not quite as dramatic as some of your landscapes, but who says they all have to be? Promise me you'll take Grover there when he arrives. ;'] Gallery worthy is a subjective term true. I've raised my personal bar over the years so for me it means an image that creative, technically correct, and interests the viewer enough so that they want to look at it. But then that's me and I'm also perfectly happy looking at others' galleries that have more personal work that is still quite interesting. I am just intrigued by how people express themselves, and ReRo is a great place to explore that. Thanks again, enough of my Stridsberging (blah, blah, blah). ;^P

Can I join in too? Here's one I took a couple days ago. Just something different, but I don't know if it's interesting or good enough for the gallery. Any thoughts? Kort - Very cool image....love the colors Shiela - I think it's an interesting image. Gets the imagination working. :) Doug - I agree with Shiela on yours. I really like it, but if you are unsure, maybe try the selective coloring and maybe with the chin. I still think it's great the way it is though. :) Jeff - Very creative and unique. I like it. :) Richard - That candle is awsome! The bottom one is very cool as well. Colors are beautiful. :) Andreas - Beautiful landscape. I agree the white is a little distracting, but not too bad. I like it. :) Okay....I hope this is good enough for my first real post coming back from being gone. (confused yet?) Some great pics on here. I don't think any of them should be trashed. :)

Hey Damia. That's a neat shot. I ike the fungus growing on the side of the Hoya vine planter. While not a bad shot, I've seen better from you. Compositionally, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to look at, the fungus, the vines, it's just a little vague. The flash is a tiny bother too. I selected some areas that I would suggest zoom in on in a reshoot. I'd break out a tripod too so that you don't need to use your flash. Just my 2, thanks for joining in! =]

Damia ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 11:29 AM

Thank you so much Kort!! That's exactly why I didn't know about....I couldn't decide what to look at. I think the fungus is worth a second try. I'll go out today and see if I can get a better shot. I may have to cheat a little and do a tight crop since my cam has a hard time with extreme close ups sometimes. And I hated to use the flash, but it was overcast and I didn't have the tripod. Okay...now I'm inspired to go try again! I'll let you know if it turns out better. :) Thanks again!! And it's good to be back. :)

I really like your radio shot Kort, very kewl lighting to bring out the details in this old radio...man I wish they made em like that again! I'm not sure why I hate this shot I took, just something about it that doesn't sit right with me. Besides the sky being blown out, I guess because there is no reflection from the bridge in the water, it's just blah to me...This is why it sits on my HD. But I thought I would join in on this thread for a change....Aloha All

TwoPynts ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 11:57 AM

Glad you joined us Dave! I really like it (I'm partial to all your shots of Hawaii) but do agree that the blown highlights are an issue, and that it would be nice if the bridge had a clearer reflection. I love the yellow leaves in the water though. The scene itself is wonderful. My suggestion would be to revisit this spot under more optimal condition and try again. Or try some creative postwork on it. Either way, I'd get rid of those distracting objects under the bridge, though the little white structure is nice. Aloha!

Kort/Richard...you both prefer the color version of my image. i like the color too...if i could just fix that damn shadow or whatever the hell it is. do ya'all not find it distracting? i've been playing with this image...desaturating the yellows and reds and then warming up a bit by enhancing the colors. any suggestions? i'm gonna keeping working on that. kort...yep...you're absolutely right about the central composition. i didn't do any cropping on this on...reckon i will though. :) thanks for pointing that out! And glad you decided to post yours! :) richard...i like your top image a lot! you captured it at just the right time! talk about a decisive moment! very nice!!! no suggestions for you on that one. definitely post it! the second one...i like it! Cool colors and shapes, and it's a well taken photograph, but the composition leaves me wanting to see more. When i look at it, it drives me crazy 'cause i can't figure out what it is and i wanna see the rest! :) can i see more, Richard??? pretty please?! :) Andreas, your image is just breathtaking!!! Good grief, you better not trash it! Post it by all means! I really like it the way it is, but i couldn't help but play with it. the yellow cast (i guess from the sun going down a bit) was bothering me a bit. i thought it was giving those rocks in the foreground too much attention. So i desaturated just the yellows a little (i think -24). Then i saturated the cyans ever so slightly (can't remember the number, but maybe +9 or +15) because i wanted to see your water have a bit more "ooomph" to it. Now, i think it's beautiful just the way you took it and i don't think what i did is necessarily the way to go...you know me...i just enjoy playing! it's what i would do if this image was mine. as for that white thing...i'd clone it and blend it in. Jeff...ah...thanks for telling me! i thought maybe those blue lights were lasers you were shooting! LOL! :) Damia, i'd have to say i agree with Kort's assessment. :) that fungus sure is cool looking though! :)

Dave...i'm a bit of a nut. keep that in mind. yeah, you got some blown out highlights. so what! i say accentuate them!!! make the most of them! get wild and crazy and push it even more!!!

i used Bleach Bypass Simulator on this one (a free filter) and pushed the exposure. i know it's completely a whacko-thing to do, but i'm like that. you could always colorize this and bump up the saturation too if you wanna get really crazy!!!

psssst...it's ok if you don't like what i did. won't bother me. i like weird stuff and when i saw your image, that's the first thing i thought of...push the LIMITS!!! :)

i LOVE this image!!!! not too dark for me, but let me play with your color version and see.

in the meantime, here's the way i would do it. this is a b/w image if i ever saw one!!!!

channel mixer:

Red: 73; Blue 33; Green 33

again...i'm pushing it and i'm sure it's not technically correct, but when i have the reds down more, it just doesn't have that OMG feeling to it. sorry. don't listen to a thing i say. i just know when i bumped up the reds my eyes went WILD with delight! ok...only have a few minutes to play with the color version before i go to work. if i don't have time i'll post if after work.

i think i saw Kingpin but i can't remember. i'll have to read a synopsis on the story to refresh my memory. later....:) edit: i tried increasing the brightness of the shadows, but i didn't think it made the image look any better. i do like it dark. try pushing the contrast a bit on the color version and see whatcha think. i'm not sure. i like extra bit of contrast when i was playing, but my i'm not sure how it affected the details overall. oh, BTW...kemal eyes lit up when he saw this image of yours! he really likes it! :) later gators. hi ho hi ho...time to sling some seafood! :(

Shiela _ I can't show you more of the 2nd shot I posted that is all there is - it's an egg cup on a cd. Don't know if you have seen them they are like a spiral spring of shiny metal. I had the idea but I couldn't get the angles rigt for all the curves and rainbows to be formed how I wanted them to be, Maybe I will reshoot it one day. What it has done Andreas is take out all the contrast and given a bit of a colour cast too. When a polariser is used on the lens set to a wide view you also end up with uneven lighting especially in the sky. Only use a polariser when you need to get rid of reflection, or are using the zoom.

My god!You guys!!!!Talk about a great thread! And I missed it!!!...Sigh.... :^( Now I feel like you were all doing double-dutch and dropped the rope just as I jumped in!LOL! Okay.Forget my pic...I'll just give my two cents... All the pics I've seen here, aren't perfect...if they were, let's face it,they'd be in our galleries,no questions asked...That said,it's wonderful to get feedback like this. And I think it's so great that we have a venue like the forum where we can share our work, our knowledge, and even our frailties with each other... So a brief note of thanks to our mods and RR,and of course,Kort, who let's face it,keeps this place interesting on many a 'dead' day... I could go on...and tell you all what I think of your pics...But I would end up with the biggest 'ramble' here of all... ...and i think I've already done enough 'Stridsberging' for now... ;^P LOL. Have a great weekend everyone!!!!! Marlene :^)

LOL! #:oD AWWWW!!! What a handsome boy. I love that dog-shot!!! So different from the ones you usually see. This ones pro-looking, like hes doing this for a living or something. I think its brilliant, i really do. Theres only one thing i would have seen differently and thats that blue ribbon. It would have been nice to have it out of the way. But what a gorgeous shot...WOW-factor 9 for this dog-lover!!!! #:O)

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Marlene, that's a beautiful capture, girl!!! Here's what i would do with this image. i'd brighten the shadows and see if i could bring in some more light/detail to his nose. then i would layer that image with this one so you don't brighten ALL the shadows. then after that i'd do the same thing except i'd work on my highlights and see if i could decrease the brightness of the highlights a bit. i would probably also crop some on the left...at the point where the dog's backside is dropping down. anyway there's my 2 cents. i love the picture, marlene!!! :) Andreas...i haven't seen that movie. i'll have to check that one out! :) thanks! :) Richard...ah...i see the CD now! an egg cup???? i just did a search under google images and saw it. never seen 'em before. must be somethin' fancy. we just eat our eggs on plates/bowls here. oh...i just did a regular search and seems i'm not alone. this site says most Americans don't know what they are. *phew*...i feel better now! thanks for telling me. :)
