Subject: C5Pro come with Hex 1.2? I only see bundle C5 with Hex1.2

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 11:48 AM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 12:15 AM

Bit confused by eovia.com site and what not with Carrara 5. I know C5Pro has a few features more thatn C5. I'm having a really tough time justifying the cost of pro other than future upgrades costing less than standard C5. Does C5Pro come with Hexegon 1.2?

bstockwell ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 12:38 PM

Features in C5 Pro not in C5: Network Rendering Irradiance Maps loading/saving FBX 5&6 Import and Export After Effects camera support RPF support (After Effects and Combustion) MatchMoving Support (MatchMover and Syntheyes) Motion Capture (BVH) trueSpace import Graph Editor Edge Tools Advanced Surface Tools TransPoser 2 plug-in CADstyle plug-in (natively reads IGES, STEP, DWG, STL, SAT, VDAFS, VRML, OIV, and OpenNURBS) Hexagon does not ship with Carrara 5 Pro. -Bob

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 12:57 PM

Yeah they claimed that C5 and C5Pro have Hex technology in the vertex room except symmeterical modeling. What can you model without symmmeterical technology? Eovia is playing market scheme against our interest to purchase a complete product for personal or business use. Look here it have something you want but does not have everything, let's look at other product, if you like it then buy it. That'll make me a grand dollar in profit. I do not like this kind of idea. I like to purchase a complete product.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 1:58 PM

Gweb, this really seems to be an issue with you huh?

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 2:01 PM

Yes it is a big issue for modeling because everything is symmeterical. Shonner check in your mirror. :/

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 2:38 PM

but everything is not symmeterical when modeling. Its nice but not a requirement when modeling. not for me anyway. Now edge tools and surface tools that's pretty high on my list. Since these tools are only in C5Pro I may have to go that route. Advancements from C3, to C4Pro and now in C5Pro Carrara has come a long way in a short time. I'm excited by all the new features listed in C5. Just trying to get the most bang for the least money as I think everybody is. C5, C5Pro, get an older version and upgrade, side grade to many choices.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 2:44 PM

Carrara doesn't have a "mirror" function? In lightwave I just mirror and then join polys to create symetrical stuff, I don't model symetrical I have to manually do some things but the mirror function works and cuts down on some time. Not really a huge deal to me. When I do model I model step by step the old fashion way and don't really use all the bells and wistles now available. Old school modeling that takes tons of time.

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 3:19 PM

Sigh go out door and count how many symmeterical or near symmeterical are out there. Do troll come with one eye? A model of a troll do still have two arms, two legs, 2 sided ribs, symmmeterical head and body? I have never seen an object that do not have symmeterical at all. Plants still have symmeterical and near-symmeterical on most parts.. ZBrush has symmeterical and near-symmeterical function built in.

bstockwell ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 3:22 PM

Can someone kill this thread already. The person who started it seems to have the information he needs, and it's just turning into a non-productive argument. Thanks Bob

MachineClaw wrote, "I don't model symetrical I have to manually do some things but the mirror function works and cuts down on some time." I do not think you know what symmeterical function is built for modeling. Everything is two sided or more. If you take a look at a tree, you will see a root in bottom and branches in top, it is not symmeterical but this tree still have two sided in horizional axis, it may not be perfect symmeterical. A leaf is still symmeterical but not perfect sided. You always can do some tweak work to make it imperfect symmeterical object after the modeling with symmeterical tool. It will save us tonz of modeling time. Do you own ZBrush? If you do not own it, I strongly recommend you to try it annd you will see how important symmeterical tool for modeling. www.zbrushcentral.com

bstockwell from Eovia??

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 3:51 PM

I understand where symetrical modeling would be useful. It has never been a requirement of mine. Actually models that are symetrical I try and undo by adding or moving things around. I have tryed Zbrush and do not like it, it's not for me. I have always done symetrical modeling manually like I said. create one side, copy and flip, reverse the normals and join/weld. labor intensive but possible, or I have used a function in various programs called "mirror" which mirrors the polys and then freeze them so that I have a full whole wireframe which I can then move stuff around on either side. I don't see Carrara 5 not having symetrical modeling as a deterant to purchasing the program, I'm sure there are workarounds for doing what I would need. I own Shade 7, Lightwave 7.5. I want to get my Poser files rendered faster and utilize features like subsurface scattering, which Shade and Lightwave don't have. To each their own, certain people have specific needs and requirements. Carrara 5 seems to meet my needs, and the things it doesn't have I'm not really too concerned about. Hexegon 1.2 looks like an interesting modeler and getting a lot of praise. I just didn't know if it was part of Carrara 5 pro or not, and it may make a difference in my purchasing decisions based on prices etc. I'll have to weigh all that. I for one am really excited by what I've read and seen people playing with Carrrara 5 so far, so excited I want to spend money and play.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 3:55 PM

GWeb, do you own Carrara 5? which version of Carrara do you use? Other than symetrical modeling do you have problems with any functions which ARE in Carrara? Carrara 5 seems to really improve and expand features from Carrara 4 Pro. The features list is impressive for the price.

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 4:01 PM

Yeah it all weights but you mentioned about whather if Hexagon would include with C5Pro purchase. Unfortunately the answer is NO. Symmeterical is really small function to implement to make modeling in C5 a complete and useful. If you do not like symmeterical, you always can turn it off. I assume that you probably have alot of time to work on a side of a model. Alot of us want fast renderer, fast modeling, and productive interface. Carrara missed 'Fast-Modeling' because it do not have symmeterical tool. That cuts 50% of 'Fast-Productive' that you may expect from Carrara.

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 4:06 PM

I own Carrara 3 and I am waiting for symmeterical implemented to buy. Version 4 and 5 would not benefit my project at all because I am still working on some modelings to make complete scenes. I am not bothered to wait til C6 with full price. Carrara 1.0 had symmeterical tool implemented by Metacreation and it was removed by Eovia in 1.1 ver

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 4:09 PM

btw I downloaded C5 demo, I did not find anything that would benefit to my current project development.

Patrick_210 ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 5:17 PM

Project Gemini is a collection of tools to assist symmetrical modeling. No more fumbling around with duplicate with symmetry and weld. The Gemini plug-in mirrors your modeling, welds the two halves together, and even cleans up the stray vertices in the middle saving you time and trouble. Available at digitalcarversguild.com for $29.95

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 5:36 PM

There ya go. A $29.95 plugin to solve the symmetrical modeling. That's actually really cool. digitalcarversguild.com has some really useful plugins, I'd have to invest in a bunch of those. fur, glows nice plugins.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 5:44 PM

GWeb Project Gemini works with Carrara 3. You can solve the issue you have with Carrara. Welp I'm off to check finanices and hit the Eovia store. Thanks, this discussion actually helped me a lot.

MC, You might consider hex and c5. You really have to weight it.Hex is so much better for modeling, tho c5P's VM is heaps better it isn't as easy or robust as hex. Pro is pretty loaded over standard, but that's only if those are features you will use, of course.C5 has duplicate w/ symmetry built in.

No need to think outside the box....
    Just make it invisible.

obaeyens ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 7:15 PM

As far as I know, You Have Carrara Pro, and the Carrara has most functionality taken from Hexgon, but my guess is that Hexagon is far more superior in modelling than Carrara pro. I have bought Carrara 5, but I discovered that I missed some usefull functionality like edge on edge that is provided in the pro. So I made a choice, either upgrade to pro or buy the Hexagon. I went for Hexagon because I still believe that it probably contained more functionality than in the Pro. I can only say that I love Hexagon. :-) Now the confusion, is that some packages, Carrara 5 and Carrara 5 pro comes bundeled with Hexagon as separate program. So you have a choice, Carrara only or bundeled. You must understand that Carrara does not do any rendering at all! Just modellng. And it is now my main modelling toolkit. I just love it. :-)

obaeyens ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 7:19 PM

I just checked, on the Eovia Online store you see C5 bundeled with Hexagon. But if you go to the purchase, then you can choose between C5+Hexagon (299) or C5Pro+Hexagon (599). It seems that the front page is not representing all the choices.

bluetone ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 7:42 PM

obaeyens - "You must understand that Carrara does not do any rendering at all!" I assume you mean "You must understand that HEXAGON does not do any rendering at all!" Since Carrara does excellant renderings but Hexagon is a modeler only.

GWeb ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 7:46 PM

Gemini suk big time. I tried it and could not stand to see half of my model while modeling. If ur happy with it then go for it. Eric Winewiller kinda cheated the modifier to duplicate the side in programming and created this cheap plug-in.

obaeyens ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 8:18 PM

Eugh yes I meant Hexagon does not render. :-) Carrara has a fantastisc rendering.

Ringo ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2006 at 9:17 PM · edited Fri, 13 January 2006 at 9:32 PM

GWeb is back at his old routines.
Gweb didn't you purchase Hexagon and now Hexagon 1.21 has Symmetrical modeling? If you didn't purchase it than that is too bad.

Thanks, Mark. I for one, have just recieved and installed my boxed copy of C5 Pro, and so far I am quite happy with it. As an upgrade from C3, this really is a substantial improvement. I'm seriously liking the new interface, and I can't wait to dig into some of the new particle and replicator effects. :)

GWeb ( ) posted Sat, 14 January 2006 at 12:17 PM

It is sad really. I always thought symmetery tool is very important modelling tool and every other members seem that they do not know it very well and they did not understand what it may benefit to them. They basically just defend their opinion regardless if it benefit them or not!! SAD!! :(

Rids ( ) posted Sat, 14 January 2006 at 5:14 PM

Give it a rest GWeb, if the software doesn't meet your requirements, use something else. For modeling I use Silo, which has to be one of the most intuitive modelers out there and at only $109 its a snip, specially as if you buy now you get a free upgrade to v2. With modeling covered by Silo, that leaves me to do everything else in Carrara 5 pro - best of both worlds.

GWeb ( ) posted Sat, 14 January 2006 at 5:55 PM

Thanks for suggestion. I have tried silo and downloaded tutorial videos. To be honest with you, I don't like changes. I hoped that Eovia would make Carrara a complete software. What would make Carrara a complete software is symmeterical tool. That is all I can think what Carrara really need for hobby and small business use.

Ringo ( ) posted Sat, 14 January 2006 at 8:24 PM

Gweb you have made your point and Eovia as read your posts and frankly you didn't need to post it in just about every topic. They do read this forum. The problem is that you have just about infuriated every member in this group. The continue posting of Symmertrical modeling is driving everyone here crazy. You could have send a dirrect message to Eovia tech support. Another thing would be to post a message when you see Charles Brissart or Bob Stockwell and say to the effect that you wish to have symmetrical modeling in Carrara.Once is all it takes. I think this is fair and you can live with it.
