Subject: Carrara Update 5.03

StealthWorks ( ) posted Tue, 31 January 2006 at 4:16 PM · edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 9:55 AM

Just saw this on Eovia's site and am downloading now. Anyone installed this yet?

Tunesy ( ) posted Tue, 31 January 2006 at 4:33 PM

...you first, Mikey ;)

Tunesy ( ) posted Tue, 31 January 2006 at 4:38 PM

...Hmm. I guess that might not make a lick of sense if you're not 45 or older ;) Ya see two or three decades ago there was this commercial where the other kids would watch and see if Mikey survived trying a new food. I gotta remember not to make obscure references to lame old commercials for pete's sake. Sorry ;)

Well, no spurrious crashes so I guess its stable enough (if you can call about 30 minutes of playing enough of a soak test!) No new features unfortunately, just bug fixes. Would sure like to see some more goodies thrown in with the updates

Been using it for a week - works great! Mark

ren_mem ( ) posted Tue, 31 January 2006 at 5:53 PM

OK...you don't have to be that old to get it. Mikey was around later than that :D Yeah volumetric light issue corrected would have been great. I did see that the transparency GI issue seems solved. YAH! Will have to check some of these other rendering bugs that were fixed.

Been using it for a week? I noticed that I'm no longer getting asked for the location of .obj and texture files of poser .pzz imports, but my Aiko bug looks to be too far down the queue / too recently reported to have made this list for this round of patches.

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

Probably was testing it arcady.(using it for a week)Hey, for anybody not aware. The initial c5 standard update had problems installing NOT C5PRO so you may need to go download the update again if you have issues.

I noticed that Cognito shows up right under my Distant Light effects setting after installing the 5.03 update. I don't remember seeing it there before.

Still can't click and drag the drawing planes in the vertex modeller, unless I'm doing something wrong. Reported it again. If this can be done and I'm jsut missing it con some one let me know please. mike

Someone should survey the age distribution on the forum....so we can adapt our cultural references! :-) I'll start: how many out there are on Social Security? :-)

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 9:14 AM

Hi Trav, I believe that moving the drawing planes by clicking and dragging has been superseded by camera movement/key combinations. Doing this standardizes camera controls across the Eovia products. Mark

Letterworks ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 9:39 AM

Mark, I may not be following you here. Up to Carrara 5 I could click and drag the drawing plane to determine where I wanted my object mirrored, this was a vital technique for making Poser clothing and other symmetrical objects. Now this isn't possible. Selecting a vert or an edge to point the drawing plane(s) to has pr oven unsatisfactory since it's aligned to the edge in all three dimensions so a cleanly centered "cut" isn't possible. The manual still describes the click and drag method for moving the drawing planes. IF there is another method for doing this I would be happy to adopt it if someone can point it out to me... PLEASE! As it is now I export form C5 into C4 to do my mirroring, which is a very bulky work flow. thanks mike

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 10:20 AM

Hi Mike, I see what's getting you - the dragging. After determining which drawing plane you want active by using the working box selector on the left, select which vertexes/polys you want, hold the modifier key (Command or Control depending on your system) and ONLY click on the vertexes/polys that you selected. the drawing plane will snap to that selection. At least that's how it works here... Mark

just because someone is on SS doesn't mean they are old... :P and you don't have to be 40+ to know who Mikey is....Mikey likes it. :D Great memories....

Mark, Just recieved a reply back from Eovia that they recognize the bug. THe problem is if you send the drawing plane to a poly/vertex/edge it rotaties to match the selection's X,Y,Z position. Some times whan mirroring you need to set the plane without any rotation and move the vertices to it then make the mirror. That's where the click and drag feature is necessary. mike

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Thu, 02 February 2006 at 10:58 AM

Thanks for the update Mike. I guess I was seeing the bug as a feature! Now I understand your need better - it's something I do in HEXAGON and Amapi but they use a different method than dragging the plane... :-P Mark

Letterworks ( ) posted Thu, 02 February 2006 at 1:46 PM

Yeah it's a bit bulky. I'd prefer to see them mirror similar to the assembly room. That mirrors everything at exactly the same distance from the center point as the object to be mirrored, as long as you could select which direction to mirror in X, Y, or Z, but, as it stands, the duplicate with symmetry feature in the vertex modeller is almost useless, at least for the type of work I'm doing. mike

nomuse ( ) posted Thu, 02 February 2006 at 4:39 PM

Hrm. I've been dragging the object itself, until the half I've modelled sits against the plane I'm gonna use to duplicate it. Gives me a chance to eyeball any stray verts, too (even do a "move selection to drawing plane").

Has anybody seen improvement in alphas coming in with obj?
