Subject: How do I apply a V3 MAT to a Aiko body?

DrMCClark ( ) posted Tue, 28 February 2006 at 8:15 PM · edited Mon, 11 November 2024 at 4:30 AM

I have a MAT (skin texture) from a V3 character I would like to use on an Aiko body (actually an Aiko-SP body). I know the MAT doesn't fit quite right, leaving the legs unchanged. How do I fix this?

Just go to the Materials room and manually choose the texture for the part of the A3 legs which haven't yet got the V3 texture.

And then save as a material collection (if you have P6). You could also edit the MAT pose file, CR2Builder by kim99 (free) is perfect for the job. Open the .pz2 in CR2Builder, leave the material nodes collapsed, copy the "material SkinLeg" node", paste it, and rename it to "material SkinShin". Repeat for all missing material zones, save the .pz2 as a new file, and you're done.

I'll try the pz2 edit, but how do I save as a material collection? (Sorry for the newbie question)

Get the pose applied to the figure. Go inside the Materials Room. Make sure the right hand side contents menu drawer is pull open. Click on the Plus Sign. Add whatever name you wish to use for the PZ2 file when the small pop-up window appears. Cheers, and Happy Mat PZ-ing !

Whoops - you ARE using Poser 6 ? Those are Poser 6 steps.

The pz2 edit method has the advantage that it works in each and every Poser version. Poser 6 Material Collections have the advantage of not cluttering up the Pose library. Alas, Poser 6 only.

Yes, I have P6 ;)

It only takes a moment to copy and paste the texture to the legs - it's hardly worth cluttering up your library further to prevent you from having to do that again.

Use UVMapper.

Load Aiko, import Vic's UVs directly from the v3 obj, save Aiko under new filename, hack Aiko Cr2 to point to new filename.

Simple, innit?

I personally just open the V3 MAT file in a text editor, make three copies of SkinTorso (only because that's usually the first one in the list) and rename them to SkinThigh, SkinShin, and SkinKnee. Then I save the MAT file again. The new MAT will still work for victoria 3 but it will also work for all the other unimesh figures too. You don't need to make a seperate MAT for all those characters, in fact in my MAT pose directory I just have them all grouped under one folder called Unimesh.

Good suggestions. I'll be sure to make use of them all as I get better with Poser ;)
