Is it possible to turn a prop into a light source?

Thought I saw a tutorial or something mentioned in the forum, but now I can't seem

to find it ....

I believe it's possible with the Probe Light node but I can't remember in any detail how it works.

However, if you're using P6, you can put a Point Light inside a sphere.

Not possible but you can fake it.  Search for Globall in Freestuff.

Dear SamTherapy;
I've downloaded it,  thank you.  (And yes,  I do try to preserve a sense of humor!)

I'm still learning how to use P6,  so forgive my ignorance but how do you put a point light into a

Sphere?  : )

ive never got the gather node bioilum effect to work...  even used the exact same settings..raytracing on...blabla..    the prop i apply the material to  (cube primitive) stays black in renders

The gather node does work and couldn't be simpler to use. However, the results are very grainy and, IMHO, useless.

Here is a poser primitive "cane". The ambient color of the cane is green. Behind it is a one sided square with the material as shown. All my lights are completely off, so the only light on the one sided square is coming from the gather node. You can clearly see the glow. But its ugly.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Doesn't actually cast light itself, but here's an old P4 thread about using primitives to simulate the atmosphereic effects of a glow that you can then attach to a light source. (at link above)

I've used SnowSultan's Globall lighting quite a few times and think it works very well if you have the patience to adjust all the lights to achieve the effect you are looking for. The link is to one of my images where the effect came out as perfectly as I had imagined it to look. Yes, it took some time to get it just so but well worth the effort. Most of the time working on an image, for me, is getting the lighting right, then second would be the posing. One can spend hours and hours working on both.

Thanks Pleonastic for the link, getting some good results so far with the script. . .
