Holy mackerel! I thought it was a joke. Or a mistake. But nope, Daz really means it!!!

:rushes off to put it in my cart: Now all I gotta do is figure out what to do with it. :-)

Surely not me! The most I was expecting was about the same as Bryce 5.5. This is too good to pass up!

Helgard ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 11:24 PM

Sorry, I am not a platinum club member, and when I click on that link I get the front page of DAZ. I pre-ordered Hexagon 2, and I would like to know what is going on. Can someone paste the official news for people who are not platinum club members?

Ok, I am glad for all the people buying Hexagon 2 for $2, and for once I cannot say anything bad about DAZ, lol.

I am a little bit miffed at the Eovia staff who must have known when I bought Hexagon 2 for $298 three weeks ago that they were selling the company. (Just so that you know, the price from Eovia for Hexagon 2 was $298, because they charged non-USA buyers in Euro.)

Let me see. How much have I spent at DAZ since I started with 3D? Nothing.

So I get a membership for $30, a $100 voucher I will never use, and I will get Hexagon 2, maybe with the Golden Pack that I am supposed to get when I pre-ordered it, all this for only $298.

So much for the Eovia staff saying you will make a saving if you pre-order.

w00t! bought it!

There must be something in the DAZ store you can use, isn't there?  Feel free to pass along your voucher if you don't want it.  :-P

Helgard ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 12:21 AM

Butterfly, even if I use my voucher and the membership, Hexagon is still costing me $168, that is my point. And there is still no mention as to whether I get the golden pack that I am supposed to get for pre-ordering from Eovia.

That is a must buy.

Anyone who ever wanted a modeller should run and go get it now. Personally I think waiting for V4 is better but now is good too.

I have no need for another modelelr, but $30-ish isn't much at all.

I just purchased Carrara Pro ... and you know that it'll be on sale for like $29.95 at DAZ in a couple days or weeks.  And, yes, I is a PC member - wonder if they'll work something out? ;)

dear helgard -- why don't you send an email to sales@eovia.com with your order number; from posts in the daz forum i gather that this might be the quickest way to get resolution (as opposed to kvetching in a forum that has nothing whatsoever to do with DAZ or eovia). i am fairly confident they have anticipated this, and since you say you bought hexagon 3 weeks ago, your 30 day money-back guarantee is in place anyway.

Helgard ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 1:15 AM

Pleonastic,

"as opposed to kvetching in a forum that has nothing whatsoever to do with DAZ or eovia"

Thank you for your condesending tone. I have already mailed them and asked for a refund, and bought Hexagon 2 from DAZ, my first purchase ever with DAZ.

Since when am I not allowed to state publicly that I am not happy with a situation? This thread actually had something to do with Hexagon, in case you didn't see the title of the thread. I have since found the thread on DAZ concerning this, and stated my dis-satisfaction there as well.

The fact that I have to find out on Renderosity that something I pre-ordered is available is not good, and if I had been sent an e-mail telling me of this situation I wouldn't have been here in the first place.

Thanks again for your tone. Much appreciated.

Helgard

pleonastic ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 1:32 AM

of course you can express your opinion here. but you didn't say "damn, i wish i had gotten an email instead of finding out through rendo that there is a new special deal". you said you were out money and you didn't know what was going on. in 3 separate posts, no less. forgive me for thinking that this is not an efficient method to recover lost monies. so you had actually already found a solution, and yet you were still complaining that you were out money? and you call me condescending? i went especially to DAZ and eovia to find out whether there might not be a way you could recoup that loss, and to let you know how. thanks for wasting my time. don't be a prick.

Helgard ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 1:43 AM

I have never, in the three years I have been here, been called a prick.

My first post was asking for information. My second just stated my dissatisfaction, and my third just explained that the membership and $100 voucher was really not a good deal, because you still pay $168 more than someone who buys it without pre-ordering, and this was still before I had found out that I could get a refund.

I am not the type of guy that fights in forums, and I was just very unhappy with a situation, and stated this fact. I have heard people get far more upset in this forum over a $5 product than I did over what I thought was a $168 loss, yet your post and attitude have really upset me, and I think I should rather bow out of this thread now, while I am still rational and well-behaved, and go and play with Hexagon instead of being insulted by you.

Heh I'd love to try it out, but alas... I can neither afford to join PC just for that, nor do I really want to rejoin.

However, this is the first offer I've seen in almost 2 years that actually makes it worth joining, even if it's just for a month.

I'll think about it. Anyone know how long this offer is on for?

Syltermermaid ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 3:52 AM

I bought it, but it is nearly impossible to download the file with around 340MB. I have a quite fast connection but it downloaded with 2.5KB, now you know how long it will need until I get the program and also only if it not break always inbetween!!! I'm already now by the thirt download and don't know how far I come this time. Somehow it looks for me like a big con, not a lot people have the connection really to get it. I download normally with a speed of 100KB but now only 2.5KB, I think DAZ should give for $10 the oportunity to burn it on CD!! And the offer is on to the 31th of May!!!!

steveshanks ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 4:08 AM

Your lucky i normally get about 240kb but i'm getting 69bytes at the moment and its bombed out 3 times already........i guess everyone is getting it LOL........Steve

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 4:08 AM

Boys, calm down a little. helgard has close on $300 of aggravation here, and I'm pretty startled by this DAZ pricing. What, I wonder, is the catch? This maybe isn't the place for angst and ranting over what's happened. Still, I don't see any reason to throw around personal insults. And, yeah, big download...

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 4:12 AM

You know folks, just because you BOUGHT it today, doesn't mean it won't be in your account listing for download a month from now when not everyone and their brother are sucking up bandwidth. Just because the sale is over on May 31st doesn't mean you won't be able to download your purchase after that date if you buy it now.

Um, Mizrael, the "Data Download Expires" is 5/2/2006 (that's five days - nicht eine month!).  I doubt that in even five days, it will be much better.  You wait a month, request relisting for download. :)

If you think it's bad now, just wait an hour or two...most of the U.S. is still asleep, but we're waking up!  Dumb me just had to try and download right now...well I'm at 2% at the moment.  I'll quit trying after it bombs out the first time.

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

If it's any help, the clickable links can be transferred to a download manager/accelerator. I'm using a combination of Firefox, the Flashgot plugin and Free Download Manager, and I'm getting 40 K/sec. It's slow for broadband, but it's manageable.

edited - Even with an accelerator, it'll need to be a one-shot attempt. Because of site security, I doubt if you'd be able to resume a broken or stopped download.

We'll see.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 5:52 AM

DAZ doesn't seem to have resume support. I's probably worth waiting a few days. I don't know if the weekend is going to be good or bad. And, yes, I know what it can be like for people on dialup. Some of the current ordinary DAZ downloads are all-night sessions on that. But, even on the slow end of broadband as I am, this is a managable size, once the server overload ends. Good luck, folks.

maclean ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 8:06 AM

As an FYI, Dan Farr said last night (in the ArtZone chatroom) that he tried to get Eovia to withdraw or modify the pre-order deals several weeks ago, so he must have already been planning some deal like this. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Eovia didn't want to do that.

No, they're not going to kill it. This $1.99 thing might be only temporary, andwhether it's temporary or permanent,  selling it that cheap will build up a large customer base (a lot of people who wouldn't have bought it before are buying it now because it's so cheap). Then they can make a killing on selling plugins, etc.

If there are no plugins available, no biggie, the hexagon programmers now ork for them, so they can just have them come up with some plugins (like to integraste Hexagon with Bryce and daz Studio)..

Wow.  This is a great deal.  I tried the demo of Hexagon, and didn't like it enough to shell out for the full program, but for $1.99, I'm in.

FWIW, there are several threads about this in the Carrara forum.  I gather DAZ has offered to refund pre-orders for those who don't think the package they are offering for those who pre-ordered is enough.

electronicpakrat ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 10:05 AM · edited Fri, 28 April 2006 at 10:16 AM

As I've said in the Carrara forum... If you're still bitter/angry about having pre-ordered then process a refund, buy it for less at DAZ and be happy (aside from the on-going stampede of customers causing slow DL speeds)!

chinnei ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 10:06 AM

Alright, I give up.  I've been downloading it since 4am this morning but only got to about 10%.  I'll just try later.  You all can have my 5kb/sec bandwidth that I've been using.

mathman ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 10:16 AM

Is it just me, or are there problems with logging in to DAZ at the moment.

I have put Hexagon in my cart, however it asks me to confirm my login when I click the checkout button. At that point, when I key in my EM address and password I get a message saying that my EMail address/password combination is incorrect. So, I then click the "Forgot Password" button, and then it tells me it can't process this at the moment as DAZ is investigating some security issues.

WTF ?

rreynolds ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 10:47 AM

I hope this works out okay for you.

That's why I don't like preordering stuff. I hate giving somebody else my money without getting something in return right away. It could be worse--Eovia could have declared bankruptcy and you'd have nothing. At least now, you can get the software you were willing to buy for $298 and get a free $100 voucher that can fully pay for any DAZ originals. It still stinks that others can now get it for $2. If you ordered by credit card, you still have some options to get your money back (though I'm not sure if that Euro thing took that option away from you). In the end, you're not getting the best possible deal, but you're getting the product that you purchased.

Take a look at how long plenastic has been here...consider the source...and ignore him. I'm feeling warped back 20 years ago, when I purchased a highspeed modem with incredible 2,400 bit/s, an unbeleavable speed in those days but in the year 2006???

The finishing of my download is expected within the next 33 hours and 8 minutes :(

Hopefully DAZ will fix the slow download problem.  They rent extra servers or some such thing when they need to, so they should be able to deal with the traffic.

unzipped ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 12:37 PM

So I've got a question, possibly the wrong place, but it's somewhat on topic:

Is Hexagon any good for doing morphs?  I was seriously considering picking up ZBrush to do some morph work - how does Hexagon compare in this regard.  Of particular interest is how it handles symmetric work - does it easily allow mirroring of work?  ZBrush seems to have that covered (although I haven't used it myself, so I could be wrong).  Then in general how "user friendly" is it compared to ZBrush?

I should probably just try out a demo I guess.....

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 28 April 2006 at 12:47 PM

Definitely try the demo.

IME, Hexagon is a lot easier to figure out than XBrush.  But then, IME, differential equations in ancient Sanskrit are easier to figure out than Zbrush.  ;-)  As Elizabyte once said, the ZBrush controls are like the cockpit of an alien spacecraft.  Takes a lot of getting used to.  I found Hexagon fairly intuitive.

But please, try for yourself.  YMMV.  One person's "intuitive" is another's "alien spacecraft."  Especially with 3D software.
