"once it's sent it's sent" is only meaningful if the deletion is not allowed.
phpbb forums allow you to edit or delete private messages that have not yet been read.
The easy way out here is not to allow deletion of unread messages, otherwise the system is misleading/poorly designed.

Quote - Hi Stacey/Tutone,

Just tried again this morning (3.05 CST) exactly as described in my post above and it is just the same. In this instance I was posting to ScrumpyJack. He is a friend of mine and you can 'test message' him if you wish.

Good luck!

Graeme.

Our team was finally able to duplicate this problem. We can only get it to happen one way. Please don't think we are just shrugging this off. Tutone spent hours on it yesterday just trying to get the problem to HAPPEN. Here's how we finally got this problem duplicated: - Logged out of the Marketplace server (the one with sitemail) - Went to the community side and went to a member's homepage (such as homepage.ez?Who=williamsn) - Clicked on "Send An Instant Message" - On next page, clicked on "Use Site Mail to Contact Member" - It asked us to log in since we were now on the Marketplace server - After logging in, it took us to the Marketplace homepage - We hit the "Back" button to go back to homepage.ez. - We clicked on "Use Site Mail to Contact Member" again - We got the SQL error you are referring to If this is what you are doing, you should know that hitting the back button after logging into a site is always bound to give you errors. After logging in, you should click on "Messaging" and then simply type in the user name in the compose message form. Or, return to his homepage WITHOUT hitting the back button and click on "Use Site Mail to Contact Member" again. Nicholas

Hi Nicholas,

First of all, I certainly don't think you're shrugging anything off here - I know how difficult it can be to duplicate a problem in order to fix it and I don't envy you guys!

Anyway, this is how I can make it happen:

Rosity front page,

In the drop-down 'Member Options' choose 'My Gallery',

Click on an image,

Click on a user name who has left a comment,

Click on 'Use Site Mail to Contact Member',

and I get the above error.

No back-buttons anywhere.

Graeme.

Could you please give me the username of the user whom you were tyring to contact in this exact example you just gave me? Nicholas Edit: Give me the image you clicked on, the name of the member you wanted to contact, and the first few words of the comment you clicked on. I'm going to try to replicate it to a T. Because I just followed those exact steps (minus having the correct image, username, etc) and didn't get any error.

Hi Nic, same name as before 'ScrumpyJack' , the image (from my gallery) is 'Global Warning'. His message starts: 'great work, but I would have left the water out . . .' .  As I said before, feel free to 'test message' him, he doesn't mind if it helps you to sort this out.

Thanks!

Graeme.

I followed those exact steps, on that exact image, with that exact user, in four separate browsers: Safari, Netscape, Firefox, and Internet Exploer (on Windows except for Safari). I simply did not get this error. We cannot figure it out. All I can say is hopefully once the conversion process is finished and everything's over there, you'll never see it again. Sorry, man. If you goto the attached link and click on the "Use Site Mail to Contact Member" button, the error appears.

Hint : look in the "onclick" attribute for that button.

cliff-dweller ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 11:37 AM

I've been following this thread because I've run into this problem a couple of times, too. Just so you know, when I run the test that nruddock set up above with the link to ScrumpyJack, I get the same error message others have experienced. Using IE with WindowsXP.

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 12:47 PM

Well I just clicked on the the link above and then clicked the "Send Site Mail" button and no error?  This is so strange.. Maybe the programmers can get it figured out.

nruddock ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 1:31 PM

Maybe some slightly different HTML gets generated because you and williamsn are an admins ?

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 2:45 PM

Well I don't think that's it because I have  a regular member test account that I used as well and I still didn't get the error and also not all members are getting them only some which is what is strange???  We'll get it figured out and we really appreciate the info to help us resolve:)

cliff-dweller ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 4:51 PM

Stacey, the other thing you might try, if you can, is to do the test from home or somewhere else other than at work...maybe there is something about being on the Renderosity/Bondware network that makes it so the error doesn't occur??

...just a thought...

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 6:00 PM

Well today I have been at home, LOL.. It was the last full school day for my son and he had an awards ceremony so I did this at home today and I didn't get the error. I also tried it in the past few days from work and didn't get the error so thats not it either???? I'm at a loss here..but its definitely happening to some and not others we just have to figure out the common denominator I guess??

3dvice ( ) posted Wed, 31 May 2006 at 12:34 PM

It seems it's still not fixed. Got the same error message today: mysql error: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '???' at line 1, occured in query: "select username from member where userid = ???". This is what the code of the submit button looked like: input type="button" value="Use Site Mail to Contact Member" onclick="self.location.href='http://market.renderosity.com/mod/sitemail/index.php?userid=???' Used --> artists homepage --> Send IM --> Use Site Mail No history back button involved, and logged in to both sites.

StaceyG ( ) posted Wed, 31 May 2006 at 12:42 PM

Hopefully this will be resolved soon. If they can't find the issue then it will be resolved regardless when the gallery conversion happens.

It was because of you all being patient and continuing to give us details that led us to the problem. So THANK YOU!!!! Glad its all fixed now.

hewee ( ) posted Fri, 02 June 2006 at 4:15 AM

The send message works ok if I click on the profile link below a members name here in the forum. But if I am in the gallery it open up to the email message page. Even if I am at there homepage and click on "Send An Instant Message" it opens the same "Send Email to Member" page. "Send An Instant Message" link http://www.renderosity.com/members.ez?Who=hewee#sendim "Send Email to Member" link http://www.renderosity.com/members.ez?Who=hewee#sendemail They are both the same page but the "Send Email to Member" link just open the same page but scrolls down the page some so you do not see "Use site mail to contact member" or what is above. Was going to post the link I get from clicking on profile below my name in the forum because it seems to open up the site message box ok. But my stats say... User has 39 posts. His or her last post was 2006-04-06 20:19:02. I can not find any of them. Clicking on the "view user's posts" just brings up a search page and even doing a search of my name comes up with nothing. Looks like you have deleted all my post in this forum because the oldest one I see is dated 2006 Apr 18 5:49 am.

hewee ( ) posted Fri, 02 June 2006 at 4:23 AM

Even clicking on the profile link in my post above does not work. This link here http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/member.php?who=133066 takes me to the User statistics for hewee page. But now I know I have a post here because I got one above this post but a search comes up with nothing.

hewee ( ) posted Fri, 02 June 2006 at 4:46 AM

Ok I can see my post now but man what a pain in the rear to get around the forum now. Plus the site is soooooooooooooooooo very slow.

danamongden ( ) posted Thu, 08 June 2006 at 3:04 PM

Today I'm getting an odd error.  I'm being told that I have a new message (which I was kind of expecting), but when I click to go there I'm told that:

**Your free trial for the 'sitemail' module has expired.

If you have already purchased a license, please click the button below to activate the module for this site.
No record of completed purchase for 'sitemail' module on this site.**

Any ideas?

I've been getting Error

Object not found! Error 404

trying to get to my email notifications from renderosity that posts have been made by my favorite artists?????
It dawned on me to insert "excalibur." in front of the address and presto it now works!

ie:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1239693

should be

http://excalibur.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1239693

It WORKS!

williamsn ( ) posted Sat, 17 June 2006 at 5:04 PM

No, I just clicked on the first link (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1239693) and it works fine as well (as it should because the galleries and forums have been moved to the www.renderosity.com address). Make sure your cache is clear and that you have restarted your browser. N

Well, i now wanted to read the story about the new site mail provided in the link in the beginning of this thread. All i got is this: ######################### Not Found The requested URL /index.ez was not found on this server. Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS) Server at www.renderosity.com Port 80 ######################### Does this mean there is no story behind that? Or that it is so old that it is not from any interest anymore? However, all i can say that i do not get any note anywhere - on any page at Renderosity. I have to go through "Site mail/inbox" to see wether i do have a message or not. Not really better than before i would say. I as well get only now and then email notifications that someone posted in the forum i watch - Vue forum btw. I as well get only now and then - two times only so far - an email notification about the posting of someone out of my favourite artist list. And i found more than those two images i am informed about myself. Since today as well the old link to the Vue forum i have bookmarked long time ago ends on a "page not found" as well. Wouldn't it be just a little more user friendly to give a little more information there? And keep those old pages with the information "page has moved..." for some days? I would have loved to see this really. Result of all this? I have not touched the Marketplace pages since weeks - no interest anymore, i can imagine how much difficulties i would face there. When trying to buy something. All things where my credit card information is involved in i am VERY touchy and right now there are too many unclear issues on this site here. So i buy things somewhere else.

No answer on that still? what is going on with the site mail? By accident i found a message today in my inbox - after i went to "site mail/inbox" manually. No motification anywhere, not here at Renderosity sites nor by email. Is it planned to be like that? Is it a bug? Is it recognised by the developer team? Is anybody home?

StaceyG ( ) posted Sat, 24 June 2006 at 4:27 PM

There are several threads in this forum regarding the ebot issue. We are still looking into this.

As far as the Site Mail is concerned, if you have any new message you should see in the far right hand side a link that says "YOU HAVE 1 NEW MESSAGE" is this where you are looking as the location for the notification is changed.

I am sending you a site mail so you can tell me if you see the message notification right now I'll send

wabe ( ) posted Sat, 24 June 2006 at 4:38 PM

Got it Stacey. Thanks for it. Reason why i have not seen this? I have all the links on my right side so that i do not have to scroll horizontally to see the content - on a small laptop. Therefore this area is simply outside my window normally. Sorry to cause actions without real need.
