Huh @ Jimbo?
Anyhoo...that´s an awesome site Richard. Very inspirational. I´m gonna bookmark that one. Thanks
How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when
isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is
supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Thank you for this link,Richard. Not only did I find it inspirational, but I will be sure to show it to my daughter who hopes to ultimately make a career of this...
Photo-editing is a fact of life in the 'modern' age...and i find it surprising that there are still people that take issue with it.Clearly they are unaware that 'photo-manipulation' has existed basically from the dawn of photography....
Ask any film photographer who has ever worked in a dark room...
I would just like to ask those who are of that 'straight from the cam' mindset...was it 'cheating' somehow, to move my hands around to dodge and burn?

Although i don´t think that´s what Jim meant. We all know he also edits his photos. Adjusting levels and curves....cloning things out etc. And i would think that´s just as much editing as anything else. So that´s why i got so confused by his reply.

Actually,I think Jim was very clear. He said,to paraphrase,'that's not my 'thing''.
I'm sorry....Jim,and everyone else...but I just grow weary of this 'straight from the cam' mentality'...
My mother-in-law is part of a photo 'club'...and she refuses to learn PS,because they repeatedly tell her their 'purist' attitudes....And yet,you and I both know, they run home and sharpen and adjust the curves, levels, and exposure...etc. etc....
I'm sorry.It just annoys me...

Very cool link Richard...thanks for sharing that. We all edit images to some extent. It is the digital age and digital files are inherently malleable. Importing and tweaking a RAW file is editing. Cropping and dodging and burning is editing. Cloning out telephone wires and putting in an alien with great flaming eyebrows is editing. We all have our comfort zone and what we think is enough or too much. Let's just try to appreciate the images for what they are and not pick apart how they were made.

I'm all for editing, but in a lot of those examples, the things that I like most about them is retouched... I just love skin textures, wrinkles, arteries, body lines... what's wrong with that? The retouched images seem like plastic, silicone, velvet... not skin. For me, that's just an example of how NOT to do it... maybe that's what Jimbo's saying (or trying to, LOL).

yeah - that one of the woman lying on her side... wow... what major reworking that had done to it! Personally i think its a bit wrong when people do that, because looking at that model in the photo any girl is going to say... "my skin rolls into creases when i do that, i want a body like hers" - when in reality a body like that doesnt exist. Part of our skinny anorexia problem maybe? Because its not just the girls - from a guy's perspective, looking at that picture speaks "girls like this exist - dont settle for less" and that is the attitude of some guys - not myself of course, infact i stay away from skinny girls coz they just aint attractive.

I am with Geert in that regard. The work done there is amazing. So seemless I wonder how they managed it. But when I click on the "before" button, I almost feel cheated when I go back to retouched image. It just goes to show you that we can't trust the magazine covers we see while waiting in the supermarket checkout line...heheh.

I think things are still not quite clear on what you mean Jim, lol. Are you saying that what you call DITI is not what the participants of the the Photo Forum call DITI? If so, what DO you call a DITI? I'm just wanting to clarify things is all.

Lemme tell ya all, Never claimed to be a 'purist'...as I proved my point on my post of that OWL (literally!)...before/after!...if it works, so be it.
NEVER have I mentioned I do not do any postwork.
To bring out the best in RAW images , what do ya have to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ie, one has a dust bunnie on the Raw file....it shows!...what ya do....leave it?
and hope it sells?
My images, and DANOB WILL agree and anyone who owns my make of DSLR...they need to be have PW...as due to the sensors nature!...ps...go look at the Clowns in my gallery!
the debate goes on...it seems
Anticipate? Participate? Well, we don't have to like the work that everyone shows in the DITI threads, everyone is free to have their own opinions of course. We do of course encourage people to be civil, polite and constructive with their criticisms if they have any. I do believe the original intention of the DITI threads was to take an unretouched image and improve it however you saw fit, but mainly through postwork that didn't actually change the original image's intent. However, it has evolved into its current state and I think it is a healthy way for the members to excercise some creativity. If someone wants to post an image an wants feedback on how to improve it without wild alterations, all they have to do is say so.

Well, some might think them too much, or too gaudy for instance. I just wanted to make sure we didn't have any misunderstandings, thanks for clarifying Jim. The quality of your clown shots is amazing...have you been doing any studio portraiture?
Kort Kramer - Kramer Kreations
Certainly Jim is keen on postworking images as I am but lol Jim can be short on words when a few more are needed!! Right mate!! Anyway I have seen some whacky DTI creations on his part even if Jimbo thinks there should be a gallery for them... My own view is as I have said before Photoshop is the new digital darkroom I have in the days of film Burnt and dodged and done all manner of things to get the right effects and Photoshop is just so much easier just wish I had the same skills with it.. Whilst a superb bit of software I have owned it since version 4 and think I have yet to learn even a quarter of its power

We have lots of fun with the DITI threads, I thought some of you might like to see this web site for a company that does it as a business.Go to portfolio and look for the before link for each photo.
