THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Modeling in Bryce for Poser...

Is Bryce an acceptable modeling program for use with Poser?

More specifically, I would like to create a necklace and a shell bra for a character. I have Hexagon and Bryce. I do alright and Bryce and well...not so alright in Hexagon.

Would it be possible to import a Poser figure into Bryce and create the necklace and shells or is another program more suited?

Hi, I am not speaking from experience here! However, from what I have seen trawling through the internet, i suspect you have several options: a] use bryce to model in Bryce 6 [B6 can export boolean models, no versions before this have that option] and then use H2 to tweak the model till it fits the character b] use Blender, export direct to B6, or Hex2 c] use another modeller - FormZ/zBrush 2 seem to be the modellers of choice by those who have been creating clothes for Poser for a long time. Mind these are only suggestions. It could well be that others can suggest better solutions [I have no current experience in this area] Regards

###Is Bryce an acceptable modeling program for use with Poser?###

Bryce as a program is very acceptable... Bryce user like using Poser for their figure work...
Bryce 6 has Daz Studio working along side it...  Studio is a lite Poser.. you may pose stuff in Studio and with a mouse click get it right into Bryce 6..   With Poser you have to save your figures in some mesh file.. ie... obj..3ds... etc...  then import that into Bryce 6....   Stidio and Poser can swicth some objects and figures..  which is great...

###More specifically, I would like to create a necklace and a shell bra for a character. I have Hexagon and Bryce. I do alright and Bryce and well...not so alright in Hexagon.###

Bryce 6 has objects you can boolean together to create other objects.. and it has metaballs that work a bit different...  So if you want to make a necklace and shell bra, you have to know how to work with Bryce's not too accurate methods.....   But if you did get to model them, you can then export them to an obj file, for instant, and import it into Poser....
I don't know Hexagon...  can't say much about it...   I would not personally use Bryce to model my stuff... I model in Bryce just to learn and play...

Yes you can import your Poser 6 figures into Bryce6,,,,   As some suitable Mesh file .. but then your figures are dead.. no longer able to make them  work  in Poser as they did before you  mesh them...  Unless you re-rig them..  but there are work arounds that too...

I would personally make the necklace and use Poser to put it on the figure...  not use Bryce because Poser is made for accurate placement of things and objects..  Just a preference... you can use Bryce as well but not as comfortably....

Poser and Bryce are a good couple......:-)

isn't hexagon a modelling program? I'd say if it does poly modelling it should be the more versatile solution of the two. Ofcourse you could boolean some bra in bryce, but then your digital women would need perfectly spherical boobs for the bra to fit. (well, at least at the part that will be covered by the bra)

You would be better off in the long run by biting the learning curve bullet and learning some Hexagon. Yes, modeling is possible in Bryce, but for later export and use in Poser, you would really need to use nothing but primitives, which is going to have a real non-organic look to it.

(Of course, I am the last person on the planet to give "use something other than Bryce" advice)

Yeah, I might have to crack open the Hex files this weekend and spend some quality "tutorial time" with it. :)

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

I just LOVE, I mean ADORE bryce for rendering and scene setup. Modelling, not so much.
Perhaps because I'm biased with coming from autocad world and used to working with coordinates and math junk, bryce feels too constraining.

But also, I'm thinking, if you're making something for poser, and you need to push around some vertices to fit a model to a character... You can't do that in Bryce, at least not in a very quick and direct manner where you grab a few vertices, and move then where you want them.

I just bought hexagon, but didn't find time to install it yet. Been demoing z-brush, and really like it. If you're planing on doing a fair amount of modeling, I'd go with what Agent smith suggested. In my experience, after a while Bryce gets too constraining.  But, if you don't want to get into a lot of modeling, bryce just might do the trick for you.

Use wings3d, a great box modeling tool, and free and model in it for Poser and Bryce.
