Subject: Anybody want $50?

angola ( ) posted Sat, 28 April 2001 at 11:19 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 6:57 AM

Not a get rich scheme, but I'm ready to beg someone to take my fifty if they're prepared to dedicate an hour to answering my questions about why the flaming joint editor keeps giving me such hard time. I can find my way around so I'm looking for a quick DO's & DON'Ts with Q&A. I thought it could be done by chat. I'm France based so payment might be a bit difficult to organize. I could always buy a few identical sets of models if your on the marketplace...

Have you tried contacting Curious Labs (for free)? It might take awhile by email, but I'm sure they are your best source of info. Scarab

It's an idea. I wouldn't have tought they'd have much time fo it but I'll give it a go. A part from some specific question (like why does my joint centre keep resetting a zero, and why don't the entries I make into the centre joint x y z boxes make any difference)much of what I need to know is just typical newbie stuff so I'm still offering the Hawaii. Thanks for the tip.

I use the joint editor all the time, and have no idea how it actually works! Sometimes it seems dragging the center is the same as typing in the boxes, other time it doesn't seem to work that way. There is some kind of relation to the centers and the actual part in the object file too, but it is really, really hard to figure out what exactly is going on.

angola ( ) posted Sat, 28 April 2001 at 5:51 PM

When I drag the centers, It updates the Center values in the joint editor window, but then everything goes back to zero if I dare to touch something else (for example the fall off zones). Typing in the boxes does sweet FA! they just reset to zero as soon as I change the focus to something else. I keep thinking I've got some kind of bug, but then I've thought that so many times nd usually it's just because I'm not following the rigid preocedures Metacreations thought up, and then didn't bother to include pop warning messages for when you abuse them.

Just wanted to say the folk, at Curious Labs are great for answering emails. I always get an answer. Maybe not what I want to read but still an answer, and it always has been with in a day!

Thanks all

bloodsong ( ) posted Sun, 29 April 2001 at 8:25 AM

heyas; this definitely sounds like a bug, not a misunderstanding of the joint editor. otherwise, i'd take yer money ;)

Scarab ( ) posted Sun, 29 April 2001 at 1:35 PM

However....if you just want to throw money at someone... Scarab<- "Over here!....Over here!"

angola ( ) posted Sun, 29 April 2001 at 2:24 PM

If it's a bug, it's just survived a deletion of Poser and reinstallation - and the update. I'll get in touch with curious and then I'll get back to you scarab/bloodsong!

bloodsong ( ) posted Mon, 30 April 2001 at 9:05 AM

heyas; i wonder if.... are you using a french-language version of poser? i have the american/english version, and it does NOT act like that.

Scarab ( ) posted Mon, 30 April 2001 at 11:24 AM

Bear in mind, I cannot help in the least with the joint editor problem, being the kindly simpleton that I am....I would just like someone to throw money at me..... Scarab <-(without taking off my clothes, that is.....)

bloodsong ( ) posted Mon, 30 April 2001 at 5:17 PM

hey! seems somebody (was it you, angola???) figured out that the joint editor flips out in WIN2K. think that's your problem? :)

kruse ( ) posted Mon, 30 April 2001 at 5:58 PM

No Sirs! I'm using Win98 and have the same problem! I have installed a German Version and the update 4.03. It's strange! But we are now three or for 'foreigns' with the same poser-problem. May be a special Poser 1th.of May virus? I also introduce this problem to CL, meanwhile I'm editing the *.cr2. This helps! Greetings Daniel

kruse ( ) posted Tue, 01 May 2001 at 5:49 AM

It's so silly!!!!! we know where the mistake is coming from: We, as European are using a comma instead of dot for writing a decimal value! Now it's clear, why you never got this mistake! F.e. just type -0.043 instead of -0,043 In our case it's working now! We are going to send this message to all the other fellows in the 'outlands' Greetings Matthias PS: We'll get the $50???

Wizzard ( ) posted Tue, 01 May 2001 at 5:54 AM

Good job Matthias!! it's usually the little things that are oe'erlooked again and again... thankyou for sharing the info 8 ) Cheers

bloodsong ( ) posted Tue, 01 May 2001 at 4:59 PM

heyas; kruse, do you type that in at the top of the cr2? where it says version #?

kruse ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2001 at 3:20 AM

Hy bloodsong, sorry for being misunderstood! I mean typing the value in Poser -> joint parameters -> center. So I can insert the value in these inputfields (by using a '.' instead of ',') and after insertng the values it doesen't change to zero. So, there is no need to edit the *.cr2 (which needs a little bit experience in doing this...) Greetings Matthias

bloodsong ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2001 at 9:21 AM

heyas; oh i see... so if you type 1,5 into the slot, it will reset to zero, but if you type 1.5, it stays 1.5? and then you can just leave it as 1.5 in the cr2 and not mess with it? good deal. :) you get a cookie for that one.

angola ( ) posted Fri, 04 May 2001 at 5:07 PM

Wo, I went off on a 'I'm never gonna get this kimono to fit depression' when I turn around, there's answer coming from all directions. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them, but I'm a bit sceptical because I usually edit the values in the wondow around the decimal place leaving it untouched - I've seen the problem you describe Kruse in the morph dials - that's where I developed the "don't touch that dot" technique - but I'll try in the joint editoer. Then I'm off to learn how to editr Cr2 - just for the fun! angola
