Subject: Poser 6 and IE 7

nightmage80 ( ) posted Tue, 21 November 2006 at 7:48 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 2:13 PM

I just was FORCED by Microsoft to install IE 7 on my machine. Since I don't use it very often, I figured, no problem....

Wrong....

Since the install, the Open Dialog in Poser 6 is no longer working. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I've been using IE7 since Beta 2 and haven't had any problems with compatibility between that and Poser 6.

Maybe it is just my PC then however, I found a way to fix it.

I went to the shortcut for Poser and checked the following in the compatibility tab:

  1. Disable Visual Themes.
  2. Turn off advanced Text Services for this program.

I am not sure which one made it work but for now, I am up and running.

Thanks for your help.

"I just was FORCED by Microsoft to install IE 7".

What? a couple of heavies from microsoft came round and sat each side of your pc?

Yes? No it didn’t happen like that did it?
You down loaded it.
You installed it.
If you are unhappy with it. Then uninstall it and go back to IE6

It's physically impossible to go back to IE6 unless you make the right "incantations" at the time of installing IE7 & trying to will cause worse problems, re-installing Poser6 might fix the problem but I wouldn't like to bet my house on it, bloomin Microshaft!

If you don't do a custom or advanced install from Microsoft Update, then it probably did download and install IE7 without you knowing, so it could have been forced on you.

I deliberately installed it and, for the most part, it worked fine until I tried to pre-order Poser 7.  While trying to pre-order, eFrontier's site would not accept my serial number, and would not let me change my address using serial numbers.  I had to use Netscape to get past this problem.  I've had other issues with IE7 at other sites.  From what I've heard at other sites, sometimes the default settings in IE7 can cause problems.

I tried to uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6, but there is no uninstaller or I just couldn't find it.  Instead, I had to do it the hard way.  I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything.

When I had to re-update Windows, I made sure I could see what Microsoft wanted me to have.  Sure enough, IE7 had been added to the critical updates so I unchecked that and installed everything else.  IE7 was not there before when I manually downloaded it so it might be worthwhile to do custom downloads and not let Microsoft Update do what it thinks you want.

To uninstall IE7 just use the Add/Remove programs in the control panel and it will default back to IE6.  However, IE7 is out of beta and I've had no problems with it.  Of course, I have custom settings for all the sites I go to so when I pre-ordered P7 I didn't have any problems with the e-F site.

to uninstall. use the add/remove programs option. this wiil remove ie7 and roll bakc ot nay previous version of the IE you have.

I hope that the E-Fronteirs website works with IE7 soon.
I have been useing IE7 for a whle and really like some bits but get annoyed with its security paranoia.

I wouldn't count on being able to upgrade back to IE6 by the add/remove route as I had problems trying to go back to IE5 when IE6 first came out, I ended up having to do what whbos did, wipe it all off & start again.

I tried the add/remove deal, and it did not show up on the list.  It works for most programs, but not IE7.  It's apparently a hidden folder which I noticed prior to reformatting and no uninstall file.

I reformat my drive at least once a year to get rid of all the crap, or when a program just doesn't want to function properly and uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't help.

I don't actually have any problems with IE7 but then I'm not planning to use it as Firefox does everything I want or need from a browser.

I've had IE7 for a couple of weeks now, and never noticed any problems with other programs.

Of course, I don't use IE, as I find Firefox to be a much nicer browser (IE7 looks like a badly coded, stripped down, Firefox to me anyway).

Actually, I didn't download it. It was sent as system update to my pc and installed automatically. I didn't see a "do not install" option if there was one.

I usually only use Firefox and still do.
