"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass." ---Anton Chekhov

Subject: Winter Haiku Challenge

Thread the ice needle.
Silver embroideries that ,
shine in the sun's light.

This is all done from memory. Here in Massachusetts, I actually went Christmas shopping on the 23rd of December, surrounded by folks in T-shirts and flip-flops! So far here there has been no snow to speak of. I'm loving it but the Flora and fauna around here are having serious issues! The daffodils have bloomed twice, and last week I had to kill mosquitos at work!

Light shone ice crystals;
Majestic in their dances,
shine with  their magic.

Nice to see you hanevi and thanks for the insight as this is very new to me, and very addictive!

magic curtains play,
silent gusts of light  blow wild
over icy seas

This is just imagination! I've only seen clips of northern lights and can only imagine land always winter clad.

You're welcome Dinhi! I've been addicted to Haiku for years; i just don't get time to keep in touch with the threads here. :(

Seas, fling themselves at
the shore. The dance ends. Begin
again, life cycles.

It is not Winter per se, but it happens in winter. Sorry, maybe I should try again.

Seas, violent surge.
Cast sailors and ships toward
reefs. Raging storms, Peace.

Well you choose.

Cycles of ice break;
Cycles are natures healer;
Will man survive it.

Drekinn, I am a habitual rhymer, I have struggled through these NOT rhyming!  I will give the next bunch a go!

It lands with a smack;
Sends cold tingles through your spine:
Snowball down your back.

hanevi: Thanks for the tribute and words of flattery. I'm truly touched. I seem to be drawn to any form of word-related challenge - the english language is indeed one of deep fascination and demands my respect and attention.

Dinhi: Ah excellent, a rival rhymer. Good luck to you. 😉

Back again the snow.
Flakes fluffy and white fall, stop.
Off again, Don't Go!

Ok is this what you do to rhyme? Are we filled with hubris to change rules so ancient, or just assisting in an evolution of sorts?

Go soft my loved one,
into the  light so cherished.
I miss you deeply.

My puppy of 13 years passed last evening.  I am a bit lost.  The snow was his favorite element, I can see him playing as I type.

Deeply loved, you will
be deeply missed. In my heart,
snow falls bittersweet.

You have my deepest sympathy. I miss mine still after thirty years. Now the memories are smiles. The unconditional love, and unswerveing loyalty is irreplaceable.

Bittersweet not sour;
Sun shines warm and lovingly;
I will catch you soon

Thank you BJ, my hubby and are struggling though the toughest eve, tomorrow will be better.  Sven comes home in two weeks, basked in cobalt blue and memories that will last a life time.  He does not know he has died yet, he lingers here and I will continue my routine, the spirits say [American Indian] that I need to be "regular" in my routine, till he can be free to go.  I created a tribute for him, will post it in my fractal gallery tomorrow.  I am a poser and writer at heart, imagery is second but has taken first from the beginning.  I take from my images, stories...I will tell his tomorrow.
Thank you so much BJ...

Pierced by soothing rays of light;
Dries those teary eyes.

Dinhi: Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope this haiku helps.

BJ: You're right, it is rather sacrilegious to taint such age-old convention, but it sure is satisfying.

Freeze swallows the land;
Bitter cold beauty breathing;
Sun shine glistens bright.

I have seen so many amazing pictures from the ice rain that swept across the states.  Brought back some cold memories!  I lived through 2 major ice storms and will never forget the incredible quite and stunning beauty that followed.

I lost the adoption, but its OK!  Things happen for a reason.  I am lucky to be on the list for the next one!

Bright sun, visual
heat, belies the frigid truth.
Frost nips, winds bite. Feast.

Perhaps Sven, making sure you get the best. We had an ice storm in Colorado while I lived there. No power for eight days! We did a lot of barbequeing, but my waterbed froze solid! That was very funny after it was all over. I'll keep a good thought for the next adoption. Thanks for reading my poem!

Gales brought frosty winds;
Measures taken to protect
all that is green now.

We had a snap of frost very early this morning, the weather alerts in our area strongly reminded folks to cover their plants and bring all animals inside.  Up north, where I am originally from, plants were in hibernation and if there were pets outside they were quite comfortable in it.

I rather enjoy writing about the snow and the cold!  I really don't miss the winter blankets and my joints are very comfortable without them!  Just this bit of cold has my shoulder screaming for spring!   Winter in all of her majestic beauty can be found online...yeah!
